Title: [Contest 2013] [asm] Scarface
Post by: AssemblyBandit on September 30, 2013, 04:56:29 pm
This game will be part strategy and part action. Your goal is to grow your empire by buying/selling drugs and taking out the competition. I'll post some mockups in a few days. After the contest, I'll port what I can to the +C.

Sounds very reminiscent of the old Drugwars game. :D Good luck!

Thanks Sorunome and Art_of_camelot! At its core its kinda like Drug wars but this has a plot, more strategy, and more action. I talk alot, but it has even been started yet :(

Thanks Streetwalker, just what I needed!

Thanks chickendude!

It looks really good in my head! But after I port it, something usually gets lost in translation :( I will take care with this title though, the movie is a classic and I want to represent it the best I can.

Everyone has so much accomplished already! I haven't even done a mockup yet! A little depressing :( Snake will be finished tonight, I'll get Pacman done real quick, then get started on Scarface.

Hey, not to worry. I'm sure you'll be fine. :) I'd imagine that there are still some entries that haven't even been started yet.

Yeah, I've yet to work on mine. The issue is that I want to make an Atari 2600 style breakout and I've no idea what to add to it, because by itself it's kinda lame. :/

Alright, Snake is finished, I've uploaded it to ticalc.org and put a preview into the post.

@Art_of_camelot: Thanks for reassuring me! Judging by my youtube videos, it looks like I put out about a game a month, I should be able to finish it or at least come close! Oh, and I have to put my calc back together, I took it apart to monitor the asic pins and I haven't finished it yet.

@Streetwalker: MultiBall is always fun!

I decided to have 2 modes, story and action. Story will be like playing through the movie and action is to fit the contest better (simple and fun to pick up and play). I will work on the action part first and maybe have some screenshots up by Sunday.

Cool. Have you released any non CSE programs before? I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with :D

Thanks! And I haven't released any games for the 84+. I was never satisfied with the display but a change will be nice!

Yeah, the display does kinda suck, it's so blurry when there's a lot moving around. But i think it'll be nice being able to move more stuff around without needing to resort to hacks :)

I would like such game. :D I just hope that it can at least be accepted in some ways in one of the program archives, since Ticalc.org had to ban drug games in 2001 (due to the CD incident). Drug wars was an absolute classic back then.

I guess you can just add a warning when the game start saying it is not meant to encourage drug dealing and to only continue playing if your parents give you the permission. Same for the file description/readme. :P

Drug Wars used to be the most popular game out! What is the CD incident? I didn't know they banned drug games, I had gotten a few clones from ticalc.org!

I thought the Ticalc cd fiasco was due to some inappropriate pictures or art included.

@AssemblyBandit: Back when TI had a good relationship with the community, they included a cd with the graphlink (i think). This was done in cooperation with TIcalc.org. There was some inappropriate content found on it and TI felt it made them look bad. Of course, it's really their fault for not doing QA on the CD and making sure there was nothing objectionable before packaging and distributing it.

Thanks AOC, DJ had told me about it and I redid their cd design for them in the weird/funny photos thread. And yes, TI should have done some QA! A company doesn't take work from someone else and not look over it!

True, but it was why all drug dealing games were removed then never allowed again.

Yeah, I didn't know before, I'll change the game to something else, I can't do scarface without the drugs! There would be no plot!

I don't think it's so strict now, especially if it's a serious game. In the end the game you make is up to you and the ideas you can come up with.

I have to admit though that i was really interested to see what you came up with :)

Yeah, please don't change. Just put a warning in the readme and the title/splash screen and it will be fine (I hope). ;)
