Title: [Idea] Tap Tap Revenge
Post by: qazwsx988 on December 15, 2010, 11:25:31 am
I found it strange how ticalc has a lack of rhythm games, especially one like tap tap.
So I made a concept program demonstrating how the notes would move and how it would look.
I'm not very good at calculator programming, so others can take over this project if they like.

I guess the lack of rhythm games is caused by the lack of speakers, and the difficulty of playing sound through the link port and storing huge songs in the limited amount of memory offered by the calculators. Nice animation, though!

What JosJuice said.

Quite nice. Thanks for sharing your code. As a musician myself (who's had this idea ever since first learning sound is possible) I might take this on.

Actually there are a lot of rhythm games on ticalc.org. I swear there are over 100. O.O

However, about 90% of them are not great or just plain suck. A Guitar Hero clone is regularly updated on ticalc.org BASIC section and it's rather cool, but I am sure some better ones could be made as well. I made a DDR clone a few years ago but there are only two levels. It's called xLIB xLIB Revolution. I should port that game to Axe one day...

yeah, they all are kinda repetitive though, I think I may try making one...  ;)

Usually they are just DDR clones where you only see one arrow at once or scroll very slowly.

I attempted a DDR game in basic a year ago. I had movement, images and collision detection all worked out but for some reason the game randomly crashed. Literally, it was completely random. x.x Too bad I don't have the source anymore.

But, yeah, I know of a group that would LOVE to hear of this.

looks nice!!!
But in the real tap tap revenge, the tappers (that little balls) become larger if they move down.
They should be smaller when they appear at the top of the screen.

Can you really tap there, or not?
If you can tap there:
Are holds/streaks possible, too?

and how is the track-file saved?
External program/var or in the game?

(I've started a TapTapRevenge project a while ago, too. But I stoped it because I hadn't enough time for it because I had too much to do for school!) :(
Maybe we could finish TapTapRevenge for TI together.
(my brother plays it every day - he could help us with it, too!)
PM me your answer or post it here!

Lol, Holy necropost Fancy Pants man !

I'm not very good at calculator programming, so others can take over this project if they like.
I don't think he plans on continuing this.

If I gave you the link, it was so you can pick his code to help you doing yours (and give him credits) :)

Yeah, but I also have problems with my code!
And now, I also lost the file what should be saved where and how in the Track-file. (externalprogram in which I save when the balls should come)

But I still hope that qazwsx988 will help me and that we'll be able to finish TapTap fot the TI together!

Well, according to his stats, he doesn't seem to be super-active.
But yeah, maybe he'll come back and see your posts here and help you.

Else, I'l stop the TapTap-project!
I've just paused it, but If he won't help me, I'll stop it, because then noone could help me withthe project.

I think it's because everyone has no time or problems with the code! (like me!) :(

There still is Juju's Keytar Hero (http://ourl.ca/11343/215183) but that project doesn't seem active either :(

Wow, it's been a whole year since I've been online.
Yeah, I'm not too great at programming, so you can take it over, p2. Actually, anyone can take it over; I just wanted to put this idea out there and have the programming greats take it up. I might try again in the summer when I have more time.

ok, thanx! :)
I still really don't know how you've made the balls becoming larger!
but I'm sure well be able to make a working TapTap game!

(you aren't on Skype, right? It'll be much easier to talk about the codes via skype!)

Actually, I never made the balls bigger, might be an illusion. They just come down on a line. The screenie was just to show a concept demo, it's pretty much useless to use for actually coding the game.

Unfortunately, I don't have Skype (don't like it very much).

I'm just scrolling th screen.
are the positions of the balls saved in the code, or are they saven in an external program?
I'm working on the tap-track, saved in special programs, which aren't shown in the program-list, nor executable.
("tapTI001" - "tapTI999")
in the program are the length of the track, the positions and all teh other things!
(your solution of the balls is great! looks much better than my code!
