Title: Bane: Battle For The Crown
Post by: kalan_vod on January 13, 2006, 09:56:00 am
I recently went onto ticalc.org and saw http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/313/31336.html and was like I guess I will try it, Well I am glad I did it is fast and fun but a little short. The graphics were really good and I beat it although it kind of got repetitive after a little while :Pblah.gif. I don't know if he is apart of any calc forums/sites but I invited him to maxcoderz, revsoft, here, and UTI. I don't know if he will respond, but o well! Try the game it's nice and made me want to make a rpg......

*worst fears for DEM: good graphics, but slow and repetitive.

I thought about the same thing... about inviting him to Omnimaga.

Hopefully, we will here from him soon!

I hope he will come back to calc forums, he was a regular poster at mc forums once, maybe he will eventually find out the others such as revsoft, UTI, tifreakwaree and this forum

Codex and I assume some asm programs (for battling animations). Btw he posted on maxcoderz so that's good and I'll point him here.

Hey. If you don't know already, I created Bane: Battle for the Crown. It's nice to see some people still remember me.

And xlibman, that is not my website anymore. Shadowsoft (The team I was apart of for about a week before it closed) died 2 years ago and since then the website went untouched. I've been coding here and there on this project for over 3 years (This game used to suck soooo bad) but never updated until now. I hope to finally bring this project into the RPG it was supposed to be... but I'm not sure where to being. Maybe Kevin can help......

Hi and welcome here :)smile.gif I saw your game updated on ticalc.org and checked it (altough I havent tried it yet), then kalan posted about it here. That was kinda confusing at first because you had a different nickname on the old MC forums but I still remember posting in your topic on MC forums back then, as Kevin. You prbly remember me, altough its have been a long while, I was still making the Reign of Legends game back then ;)wink.gif. I just have a different nicknames now. I am still Kevin on MC forums tho because I left 6 months ago due to stuff that happened here. I also quitted calc programming in december, last RPG I made was Reuben Quest: The lost mirror with Omnicalc one year ago and last game I did was xLIB xLIB Revolution. Anyway I'm glad to see this game back into developpement and I hope to see it come out soon! ;)wink.gif

btw did u ever though about using xLIB once the new version is out? You need it installed on calc like Omnicalc but it run so fast that you can even have grayscale tilemaps and battles, not to mention it do practically everything CODEX does but better, and since its a flash app it doesnt require any RAM like codex. :)smile.gif

Yeah I remember you. So you aren't making games anymore, or are just not working on any right now? You've made some good stuff btw.

And I have been looking into xlib, although I have no Idea how to use it right now (thats what happens when you don't use you calc for a year). I went through the xlib help file availible now, and it didn't help much.

:bow:worship.gif Any help (especially with xlib, greyscale, etc.) or trade secrets from anyone would be a big help (especially you xlibman) :bow:worship.gif

Actually I kinda lost motivation to make calc stuff. I guess its either because I wasted all my ideas in my previous release (see my ticalc profile http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/authors/78/7864.html I even got 5 of those thingy featured O_Oshocked2.gif ) or because of the stuff that happened in the community lately, I still wish I would make a xlib rpg as well tho :(sad.gif

as for xLIB help peopel here will be able to help a lot, considering practically half of the members use it :Dbiggrin.gif

what do you want to know about xlib?  How to make sprites, how to use tile mapping, how to do memory stuff (like Flash Gordon, but infinitely faster and more effecient) or such?

Well, since I have barely any knowledge on it at all... pretty much everything. I think I know how to do sprites, and i can make scrolling tile maps (sortof)... but other than that, I'm a total newb :(sad.gif

Hey Koolman B)cool.gif  Long time no see

Welcome to the forums.  You're probably (no most definitely) a better programmer than me.

Post by: LightofHonor89 on January 14, 2006, 04:52:00 pm
lol You guys make it seem like I died or something :rip:tombe.gif

Well, I coded alittle of the map. Greyscale won't work well on my calc (83+), so I don't think I'll do that (for this game, unless I get a new one soon). Maybe i'll put up a screen.... still very ugly looking though.

Anyone up to my help the idiot challenge? >Dgni.gif

Thanks Kalan! Well I decided to test my skills on something easier and smaller first, because I don't want to do everything on a big game wrong and have to recode everything. It'll still be an RPG (sorta), but it won't be Bane. When I actually make progress with Bane i'll update here.

I updated the file on TiCalc. Now the time bar should work correctly and should be slightly smaller. If someone could test how it works on their calc (all I have is 83+) it would be greatly apreciated. :bow:worship.gif

@lightofhonor89 tried the game demo in PindurTI emulator, awesome work on magic animations and real time battles :)smile.gif , could you make it so you dont need to press 2nd everytime the damage points are displayed like in ROL3? Basically they would be displayed like 2 seconds and then automatically dissapear. just a suggestion tho :)smile.gif

@ligthofhonor89 - Wow, you're back! that's sweet (chances are you don't know me... I've only poked my head into the mess about a year ago (worst time to do so I belive) but I've observed for a long time) I'm needing to try out this game and give feedback (I like to do that)  :laugh:evillaugh.gif But that won't be for a while... if I stop working on metroid for any amount of time Kevin (xlibman) has like a secret radar that informs him that he needs to kill me now  :evil:devil.gif

Well I thought I should update everyone on the progress. I started tinkering around with xlib and a town layout (sort of) that will respond at certain points (signs, people, etc.) so that came along rather well. I know thats nothing for any of you but I haven't programmed in over a year (New fangled technological thingy miggigers you youngins have). I don't really know how much I can really do in my time frame and in Basic so right now the project has stalled. It's not dead, but I'm trying to get around some issues in the game.

And the test game I made (mentioned above) was based on Veggie tales :urecrazy:fou2.gif . Will it ever be released, no. But just thought I'd throw that out there B)cool.gif .
