Well, I've started a project I'm tenatively naming 'Clones.'
Basically, you are a blob with the ability to clone yourself, and switch between controlling any of your clones.
I'm probably going to focus on the puzzle-solving aspect of this.
-
Hooray for vague!
Anyway, this sounds like it would be fun.
-
Hmm this seems interesting. Will there be a limit of useable clones in one level such as requiring to collect food or something? This would be an interesting puzzle, that's for sure.
-
hmm that's a very good concept you have there :D it sounds like your entry is going to stand out (and probably in a good way) due to the inventiveness -- good luck, bet you'll do exceptionally well with this one :D

Walljumping FTW!
Now that I have basic physics down, it's time to get started on a more sophisticated mapping engine...
-
Ah, phoo, another awesome physics platformer.
Great job on it so far :D Just killin' my chances.
EDIT: I don't think I've seen any TI games with wall-jumping yet. Nice!
-
Can you clone infinetely? This looks great!

I don't know what it is about wall-jumping, but for some reason, it makes me really happy.

Well, I start to run out of memory at about 42 clones. Currently, I could compress what I have, and manage to squeeze about 70-80 clones total, but I don't want to go to that extreme just yet :)

Me too. It's really fun to watch. Nice work! ;D

Oh, it does :D

Wow this is SO cool!!
-
Looks really nice! :)
Wow, I should really get started. X.x
-
That looks awesome! I really like the wall jumping, though It seems to me like the initial stall is a little long. Even so, it looks fantastic! You'll definitely have to incorporate some cloning limitations in the actual puzzles though! :P
Edit: Also, I like how the gray fill floats between clones when you switch control, but when they're all the way across the screen it gets kind of tedious. You may want to make it skip frames as the distance increases.

This looks great Michael_Lee! Good luck with the contest!
-
Very good looking! I'm excited for this year's contest, all of them look like tons of fun to play.
-
wow, lots of 5x5 platformers. XD
Looks great!
-
I've got walljumping too!
What with all these platformers?
Oh, wait, that's the contest. D'oh! :frustrated:

I've seen one other. It's Mario game by a certain calc84...

Me too. Good luck to all the contestants!

A better and bigger map! (Still in aimless, exploration mode)
Jump height, length, and speed all limited to increase difficulty.
Also, you decided that wall-jumping is exhausting and that climbing is a much easier way to do things. 'Course, you can still wall-jump if you want to.
Finally, you can run over gaps in the ground (not that I intentionally coded this behavior, but I think it's cool that it happened anyways).
Up next (in rough order)
Make clones work throughout the level.
Get interactive tiles working (like buttons and coins)
Allow players to actually finish a level
Add menus, pause buttons, teacher keys, level selects
Add more tiles and levels
-
So, you're climbing the walls? That seems like an interesting mechanic. I wonder what sort of insanity that'll induce. O.O
-
Hmm... a sticky blob that can climb walls... I like it! :D It'll make for a more unique and interesting game. :D
-
I just hope enabling you to climb walls doesn't make your character too overpowered that all the challenge is gone.. hmm maybe also include tiles that you can't climb on?
-
Yeah, that would make the game way more challenging.
-
/me needs a challenge
-
are you going to add smooth scrolling? :D
-
That looks very cool, though I second the notion of smooth scrolling.
-
I third the smooth scrolling and second the non-climbable walls. Other than that, it looks awesome. :)
-
I fourth smooth scrolling and third non-climbable walls. Keep it up!
-
I fourth the non-climbable walls since I came up with smoothscrolling idea.
-
By the way, you can also make unclimbable walls by creating ledges.
-
This looks nice Michael. THe only suggestion is to slow the game down a bit, because at this speed it's gonna be hard to control the character. X.x
