Title: Dalanian Software
Post by: Ashbad on April 03, 2011, 06:57:51 pm
Well, I was fooling around with stuff today, and I made the "Dalanian Software" logo program, with the logo and program attached (yes Dalanian Soft is by me, and is sponsoring the projects "Trio and Niko: Falling" and "Pyyrix II")

What'cha thinks?  ;D

AND PS, this is like a logo right before the game starts ;)

It's kinda slow to start up, IMHO.  Maybe a little faster?

I agree, seems a bit slow. Or make it appear only the first time the game is run, then disable it for future runs.

hmm, that's a good point, I'll see how I might speed it up -- though those trig functions drawing the circle are on Full speed already x.x

O.o

What about precalculated positions? You only need a quarter of the circle, anyway (an eighth if you're é1337 enough).

hmm, good point, or maybe I'll draw the 4 level scene every 4 pixels instead of every single one? :P

You forgot to reverse the fix for text inverting :P

The actual logo itself looks really nice though.
/me should try making one of his own...

I just sped it up, and made the circle go only 2/3rds of the way around, to add a sexier appeal :)

That looks nice. As alternative to increased speed, maybe the ability to skip the logo? Also how much space does it takes?
Title: Re: Dalanian Software
Post by: Ashbad on April 04, 2011, 03:34:45 pm
The logo only takes 1k, and since I'm sure I'll have tons of misc space on page 2, itll fit nicely :)

Also, I sped it up, only about 2 seconds to draw now :) nd it only draws a cool semicircle now, and it looks awesome :D

Nice, shouldn't be too bad.

For some reasons it reminds me the WHX logo that my Mystique Dragon Tears co-author/founder used, although it was way simple. I think it was just Circle() with small regular text. :P Idk why it reminded me of that O.o

Nice. Actually, I was thinking of something similar for another idea I had...

Nice, is there a way to make it open only when the program is first ran? Otherwise, it's quite boring to wait to play :P

thepenguin77 does an ID check to see if the program's been run before in his Chess game. You could ask him for help.

There's an easier way: If appvars exist, don't, if they don't exist, do.

New updates for Dalanian Software!

- We now have a twitter!  you can access it whenever by pressing the automagically updating blue and white userbar in my sig!

- A completed program to show the logo, and a color version!

:)

sorry for double post, but it seems as though I cannot delete my really lame last post to make room for this one :P so... I shall take the risk! :)

Here we go:

Dalanian Software Now has a DECENT looking twitter page :) http://twitter.com/#!/DalanianSoft (http://twitter.com/#!/DalanianSoft) check it out, SVP!  And, if you really want to support the team, then I suggest you to also to follow as well :3

Also, I am in the midst of setting up a website for DalSoft using PHPBB software -- hold on until then ;) you won't be put down in disappointment.

EDIT: half hour off from not being called a double post :(

I like these :D, but you should make a larger version of the color one, so it's more the size of the Casio Prizm screen.

Also I hope you're not planning to setup another calc forum, because there are already enough, IMHO, and it will seem like you are trying to compete against Omni and Cemetech. Not to mention it would be against the rules to advertise another calc forum. In any case, I hope you still plan to cross-post updates here too, right?
Title: Re: Dalanian Software
Post by: Ashbad on April 17, 2011, 06:08:51 pm
Well, not compete in any sense ;) more like a place to just post stuff and get updates -- remember, DalSoft is a group of programmers who create many forms of software for many platforms primarily in assembly, so there would be SH3, M68K, x86, etc. discussion as well ;)

no competition :D

and, atm here is where I post most updates, with exception of cemetech where I spend more time with assembly help and project updating ;)  So, I would most likely be crossposting the stuff here to over there :)

Ah ok, but I sure hope you'll still post some of that stufff here anyway. It would suck to lose some of that good discussion here X.x.

Oh, trust me, all of it will still occur here ;) I don't plan on lowering my activity in any way or form ;D

I just think that to seem respectable, I should have a site for my programming group -- and since a forum is getting pretty simple to make these days, I might make one of 'em ;)

Nice logo BTW :P

Ah ok. SOmething I wonder though is weren't you part of ClrHome Productions? Or are you just using Dalanian Software as your personal logo?

Also I wonder how Ashbadian Softwares would sound. :P
Title: Re: Dalanian Software
Post by: Ashbad on April 17, 2011, 06:15:48 pm
Thanks, and thanks :)

The logo actually was programmed way before it was even drawn out, I just came up with it in an Axe program ~2 weeks ago, and eventually I have to make a faster assembly version with DalSoft's pre-alpha library as an example and a better looking color version in SH3 assembly ;)

And maybe in the future, an x86 routine to display it ;D

EDIT: I would do Ashbadian Software, but I think that would make me sound like I have a huge ego :3 And I try to be part of most elements of the TI community lately, as then I can not be biased (however, as you all know my house is on omnimagaian turf ;) so I do still hold positive bias towards you guys, and I doubt that would diminish anytime soon)

Ah ok and it's cool to hear you like us. Of course you are allowed to frequent any site though, I would just hate if you suddently stopped posting here or something O.O

Also for the SH3 version remember that the screen is 384x216, not 96x64 :P
Title: Re: Dalanian Software
Post by: Ashbad on April 17, 2011, 06:28:36 pm
of course, I love this site ;)

also, the color one right now is a placeholder I made in MS paint in <5 minutes, I'll use PhotoShop on my school's comp in a week to make a much better one :)
Title: Re: Dalanian Software
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on April 18, 2011, 07:26:38 pm
Ah ok. Of course an idea could be to use it as some sort of background for icons in the Prizm apps menu.
Title: Re: Dalanian Software
Post by: Ashbad on September 15, 2011, 09:44:50 pm
Well, I'm most likely going to revamp the color version to look a lot smoother for the arch part (the lettering will remain pretty much the same) tomorrow or in the weekend.

Also, I used the current version of the logo in my Prizm Contest Entry.

Nice. It will be scaled up, right?

Nice. It will be scaled up, right?

Yep :) also, as you guys can see in my signature, I have one specifically for the signatures of DalanianSoftware members... Which happens to include only me right now :P

I think I'd like to make it as an unofficial organization composed of members programming towards the forward goal of creating only the best software they can, releasing only when highly tested and seamless.

In fact, I would love to start some sort of team like that :) I guess I would start with some guidelines:

1 - Must have decent knowledge of common programming language, I.E. C, Python, Ruby, Java, C#, Haskell, etc.

2 - Commit to only releasing software in "final phase" (deemed major version 1.0.(..) or above) after approval of multiple other members of the team

3 - Release software with the DalanianSoftware Logo (of course, don't make it exclusive, showing support for other sites like Cemetech, Omnimaga, Cprogramming.com, etc. are expected if you posted news there or ask for help)

4 - Help other team members with their projects when needed, and if possible, to at least a decent extent if they ask

5 - Help others outside of the team as well, and in return perhaps hint them towards joining the team (not forcibly, of course)

6 - Have a decent resume of previous projects to show in your application email (TBA)

... Any ideas to add?

that's a really good idea. I would love to join but I only know Axe...

Add a staff rule, also valid for the root admin, where if someone starts a project under the Dalanian Soft name and midway into development, changes to another platform more than once, he automatically gets kicked out of the team with no chance to return.

Also I would probably recommend against just starting yet another forum, because that might sound like you are trying to steal users from others.

What do you mean by "another platform"? ???
Title: Re: Dalanian Software

I mean if someone starts a TI-83+ RPG, then a month later he decides that it will be made on the prizm instead, then two months later changes his mind again and make it for the PC, then still can't make his mind and do it on the Nspire instead, that's one great way to tarnish your reputation (and if you're part of a team, the entire team's reputation) as a developer and to no longer get much feedback.

Also another thing is that staff should probably actually be working on something. In the past (like in the Invisionfree site days) Omni had some staff that never bothered to do anything at all.

Well, that first piece of advice I won't follow; if the reputation is tarnished, then it is.

Secondly, I doubt it would have forums, but if I wanted to start one, I will probably do so.
