Title: David's Epic Journey
Post by: adamac16 on December 06, 2010, 05:38:35 pm
Im thinking about making a game, kinda like Kyle's Quest and Final Fantasy. Ive gotten as far as naming it ------------'s Journey. Any suggestions?

Could you give more info about your storyline, the main character name, the goal of the quest and the world where it occurs, so it can give us more ideas on what name to suggest?

Well, i dont have a storyline yet. The main characters name is David. The goal of the quest is to save Fred, a friend of David's.

What do you mean about "the world where it occurs"?

like what's the setting, mideval middle earth where you save a ring, or during the reign of a terrible emporer in the land of mangroves?

here's a name though: Exiled Savior

in the late 18th century. you have to save Fred from an evil warlock who hates David.

@Ashbad: as for the name you posted, i will use that as a secondary person.

Midlife's Journey?  metaphorical and lame, but it works

 ._.

that's for the name of the game

well, i was going for _________'s Journey, which the name David would make it David's Journey.
or do you think i should go with something else?

it works, but it's not jazzy.  Then again, it DOES work fine, so go for it :)

David's Quest sounds better to me, for some reasons. I wonder if it was used often before? If not, you could maybe go with this?

David's Quest and Scout's Quest both seem appropriate...

/me wonders why...

Now seriously, Journey doesn't sound epic, Quest makes the job better.

@DJ:Well "Quest" has been overdone, so i thought id do "Journey"
@Ztrumpet: David's Epic Journey does sound pretty good.

What do the rest of you think?

There is a biblical story with David and Golias, you could base on that, it would be a nice RPG.

With the addition of Tale in the poll, I have made the poll so we can change our vote and voted for David's Tale.

Want the story's run down?

Spoiler For David and Goliath (Goliath is the way it's spelled in the KJV):
So here's the basic story. The israelites are all living peacefully when the Palestinians attack, and a big war ensues. david was a young adolescent at the time, somewhere between 12-16. His brothers all went off to war, and he stayed home to tend the family sheep.

the brothers go to the front line, where king solomon has worked out a deal with the Palestinians: a one-on-one match, between the best warriors from either country. The winner wins the entire war, meaning the retreat of the Palestinians or the conquering of Israel. Unfortunately, the Palestinians have a really, really big guy named Goliath (that was really his name, where the term comes from) who stood about 8-12 feet tall (it was in cubits, and no one really agrees on how much that really is). No one wanted to fight him. While everyone hides, Goliath makes all sorts of derogatory comments about the Israelites and their religion.

Meanwhile.....
David's father sends him to the front line with supplies for his brothers and the army. When he arrives, he finds the situation quite disturbing, and goes and tells king solomon that he will be the one to fight Goliath. He is a faithful boy, and believes God will protect him. He eventually convinces the king, and prepares himself by gathering seven smooth stones from a riverbed, along with a sling. When he faces Goliath, the giant is suitably humored. However, David slings a stone, and strikes Goliath between the eyes, killing him instantly. The Palestinians all flee in fear of David, who is a hero, and moves on to become the king david who makes up much more of the Old Testament.

The End

Epic Journey honestly sounds a little longwinded. A Title should be short and to the point. I voted David's Journey.

Of course, it's always fun to make things a little more long-winded than necessary, such as:
The Tale of David's Epic Questing Journey.  ;)

On a more serious note, I'll have to think about what to vote for.

Could you specify what exactly do you have problems with? Like, do you need to know how to do tilemaps? Do you want to know how to have random battle encounters while walking? Do you need ideas for enemy, magic, item or weapon names? (I would probably keep weapons out of this if it's your first graphical game ever so you can familiarize yourself with that type of project). You may want to read a bit on TI-BASIC Developer or TI-Freakware/Cemetech tutorials, such as this http://tifreakware.net/tutorials/83p/b/tifw/les8.htm (This explains homescreen collision detection, but there are several other ways to do it) or http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/starter-kit . If you use xLIB or Doors CS you can also check http://dcs.cemetech.net/index.php?title=Third-Party_BASIC_Libraries for more info on how to use these commands.

You can also check the TI-BASIC sub-forum here. If you don't understand something in particular and cannot find any info, feel free to ask in the TI-BASIC section and maybe post some code too so people can point you in the right direction. (Note that people will not do the entire coding work for you, they'll help you do it.)

I like the alternative look, though :D

Well, the calculator limits what and how I do it. But yeah I'll fix it. (weird bar wise and curved D's and S's.)
Title: Re: David's Epic Journey
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 22, 2010, 11:14:36 pm
Oh I didn't see the one in the S. I guess it should be fixed too.

ALso I think the look will be fine if your RPG is meant to be humoristic. Otherwise it might be best to maybe use something like Times new roman fonts, but that would be hard to do on-calc. You would most likely need to use Paint.
