Aight, im workin' on a Basic/ASM rpg called 'FATE'. (its an original rpg... partly based on Norse Mythology........woord..) Right now its far from complete... I've been adding lil snippets of code/data... its taking a lotta time but i havent lost interest in it AHA... check it foo..
so... tell me wat ya think... peace....gotta crash...

Features(that it has or will have):

-16*16 Sprites
-16*16 Tilemaps (courtesy of Xlib yoooo)
-lotsa NPCS
-many different environments
-interactive objects
-sweet battle engine
-items/spells/weapons armor
-shops.....
-Linking for item trade
-maintain the phat speed/fps it has right now
-more stuff....its late.....cant think...

AHA nice... well check it yo, some animated screenies.....eh... man these 83+ shots....are a kick to the 'nads yo...    :blink:blink.gif    it owns on an SE cuz...datz wut i programmed it on...agh ive added so much to it.... (o by the way....PindurTI rocks da house....word)

**Things to ignore at the moment (u will notice  somethings...)

-AHA the text formattin'... das an easy fix
-The speed on a black calc....hmm i need to revamp some code...
-umm...anything dat looks weird to u...AHA it will be tweaked...word..

I am amazed by seeing new programmers work sometimes, this is almost asm like and much more better than what I did so far (RL3, Reuben quest, etc), I wish I was that good in sprite drawing. How long have you been programming for calculators btw?

I have been programming for calcs for almost 5 years, altough I'm not as active as before. I am amazed by your work so far ^^

if u need speed issues, i'd be glad to help! i've gotten pretty good speed using a similar engine with 16*16 sprites. What i'm really curious is are u using Xlib's 8*8 tilemapper, or 16*16, and if so, how big are ur maps?

also, does changing the tile mapper change the way the map scrolls? (16 pixels instead of 8?)

They look really large, but yeah SS is right about using the Real(4 command, but it isn't as easy to work right with the tile mapper~!

hrrm real(4? the scroll thing? eh... i dunno like u said it prolly wouldnt work right with the mapper... i cant really picture real(4 with this map in ma head.... AHA... hmm  XDsmiley.gif  i was thinkin maybe an asm utility? hm? dat would speed it up... but i dont think it would werk... (like something that actually calls real(2,etc. increments variables, and returns upon various types of key presses fer interaction or the menu..............hrm...the only thing im stumped with...is how to call real in asm.......is dat possible?...) agh brain cramp...  :Ptongue.gif  peace

That's why xLib was changed from Asmprgm to App in the first place ;)wink.gif

real(4 wouldn't work right with the mapper? just make all border pixels white via real(12 before using real(4, that's it :)smile.gif

But what if the boarders need to be tiles! It would look a little choppy to draw a white boarder, move 16 pixels, and then draw the tile map over it + it would be time comsuming. I think it's fine until tr1p1ea makes it do 16.

i doubt that would be that bad, but personally I like when game use the whole screen, unlike dying eyes. Maybe sticking with 8x8 maps would be a better idea, unless you are really running out of memory

Battle Engine:
I want it to be fun... interactive and different...

hmm... ok... in terms of looks i was goin for a Tales of Phantasia style battle(combined with sumthin else), xlib would scroll the background n stuff yeh!

The battle would be turn based with a real time feel....(ok...dat doesnt really make sense... but work with me...)

Melee Attacks - ok... u can choose to attack once... or attempt a combo... combo attacks are gunna be a sequence of buttons that u need to press with in a certain amount of time (a couple seconds for each key, the buttons will be randomly picked....with more 'sp' combo strings can be longer... this shuld make it fun...)

Rune Spells- these spells are collected around the world and are 'magical stones' etched with rune characters, they are magic spells basically, i think i might try to add some kinda power up feature...

Skills - Skills...hrrmm are jes bonuses and lil status attacks....i might take this out...

Summon- U will be able to summon spirits/souls of the dead...(bosses u have killed... people u have saved.....sexy huh? :wub:wub.gif )

ok... (focus... focus) gunna start the paper for real now... :wacko:wacko.gif *sigh* .............peace...

he seems to have quit calcs, his pixel art was amazing, but the huge sprites might not necessarly fit in all games

Your work is impressive to say the least. It reminds me of The Sword of Darkness (anyone heard anything from that guy?). The graphics are very nice and it seems to scroll very fast!

YO YO...its 4am ma favorite time o' day foo...

K... hm i spent some time yestaday rewriting the code for the movement and i think it moves a bit faster now on the black calc! (im still not satisfied...err... :knight:knight3.gif ) On the SE its like blazing fast, fasta than it was before... B)cool.gif  but the code isnt complete yet... hopefully i can maintain the speeeeeed check it \/ .....

 The guy was Desmond Jenkins (who was known as mjenkins86 on the old Omnimaga forums). He was one of the most active member on this forum in its early days (he almost reached 200 posts I think), but during summer he started working like 60 hours in a row, then in october he decided to move to PSP programming and quit calc programming, I never heard anything from him since then and even his website is down now. Too bad :(sad.gif

Great work FISH AHA...yEa, I think it looks fine without the animation of walking but it doesn't look like it hurts the speed so I would just stick with the walking animation :Ptongue.gif

hey BAHAHA o man AHAHA i dug this ol' AHA pic up from yesteryear before i actually started coding FATE BAHAHA (ttook me a couple class periods...).....it sucks ballz (i neva finished eitha) but it gives u an idea of wat ma characters look like... (the 2 main chars)....\/ crap... ( i mean look at it....crap proportion, wild pencil strokes... etc etc...)

but ma main char... is hardcore...

Any idea why? o.oblink.gif all I can guess is that he's sprite artist god or he has nice sprite converting techniques (from console videogames for example). You should check RPGmaker sprite sheet if you need more they look pretty nice in b/w ^^

yeah but sometimes it can be hard even for a great artist (hand drawing) to draw pictures in a limited size and colors (such as sprites)

made this lil screenie...it isnt an improvment...i jes added animated tiles to the mix... it slows the engine down... im prolly jes gunna use it for the world map/areas with very little tiles cuz it will work betta(fasta)... ;)wink.gif

wow animations o.oblink.gif sound cool, maybe it would be better to stick with static images though for the maps, as it will require less picture for the sprites and be faster. Still awesome though

oh yeah I nopticed connectrion fainted when I was helping, anyway make sure your options look like this

it should work then. If not then I would suggest to use chatzilla (Firefox Extension). type /server unitedti.org then when connected /join #omnimaga . once done right click the unitedti.org tab and select open this server on startup and right click on #omnimaga and select open this channel on startup

if you use Opera there is a built in irc client but i never tried it much :(sad.gif

Well, there hasn't been any progress in the last few months, though I did see JFISH lurking around in the forums on some days in the last few weeks.
It's probably stalled. Not dead, but stalled; placed in cyrogenic storage.
