Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on July 13, 2006, 03:59:00 pm
Galactic is a person against the CPU space fighter. This place is where you post any ideas of what you think Galactic should include.

Here is a list of already included things:
Grayscale intro
Cool GUI
Grayscale sprites
4 enemys
Highscore counter
Menu

***Galactic Release date is set for August 10th***

wow grayscale, will this be for the SE/84+ or both regular 83+/SE?
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on July 14, 2006, 11:12:00 am
Yea man idk cause it might be good enough to run on the 83+ because it goes at 18 fps on the 84+ and thats not even the SE so I'm thinking that I might port it or something like that.

Post by: DJ Omnimaga on July 15, 2006, 09:45:00 am
18 fps??????????? O_Oshocked2.gif thats like 6x the speed of Metroid II on my SE o.oblink.gif

GALACTIC CONTEST(had to put it in caps so people would notice)

If you can guess the boss of this game then you will win a prize. THe prize is that you will recieve a copy of all the games I make from now until a die a week before it is realesed on omnimaga,ticalc.org, or even my site or to my friends. You can only ask yes or no questions that I will answer and a hint is that the boss is a famous space fighter.

Don't worry, I was gone for 2 weeks for camps too. Take your time. The best projects take time (unless your xlibman, then you can finish them in like 3 days and they still rock :)smile.gif)

Ok so I hate the idea of following the same path as my original Galactic so I threw away all my ideas and totally revamped the game. It's now gonna be an rpg space type solving game. I have been working on it for five days already and I already have tiles, sprites, intro, storyline, menu, scrolling engine, matrix compressor and decompressor. Right now I am working on NPC's and a lot of algorithms for different parts of the game.

EDIT: Also I'm looking for a co-programmer not just someone who helps with code snippets but an actual programmer who does the serious stuff like me. I have the game already well documented so you could probaly jump right into it. It's in BASIC with Xlib.

Got a bunch of detection routines in the game. At the rate im traveling now I think I could finish within like a week or a week and a half. I got a 5 hour car drive tommorow yeaaaaaaaa.

wow, your working at xlibman's speed XDsmiley.gif Great work, can't wait to see some screenies! Is there gonna be a storyline?

Oooh 5 hour car drive. Have fun!

Yes there is a storyline an in depth storyline that runs the whole game.

well the problem is that when I start coding I cant stop :paf:tripaf.gif
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on August 13, 2006, 03:53:00 pm
That's so hard for me not to stop because when I'm stuck on something I just throw the calculator(overdramatic), but if I'm getting somewhere then yea ill keep going until I die but that usually never happens.

Post by: Halifax on August 14, 2006, 05:50:00 am
O yea i got the NPC routine done and then engine still runs fast, also got the text parser done for the NPC's so i can write their text into strings then parse it
Title: Galactic
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 14, 2006, 05:59:00 am
glad you got it to work! does the npc move around or stay at the same place all the time? i cant wait to see it in action
Title: Galactic
Post by: Dragon__lance on August 14, 2006, 02:51:00 pm
me too! Screenie! Screenie! :Dbiggrin.gif
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on August 14, 2006, 05:58:00 pm
yea im have both moving and standing still its just a matter of changing the list which is easy but I can't get an animated screenshot because I am using calccapture and Tilem because i have an 84+, but anyways i cant find a good cap interval to gif interval ratio so my screenshots suck
Title: Galactic
Post by: Dragon__lance on August 15, 2006, 03:59:00 am
If you send me a copy, I'll take a screenie for you :Dbiggrin.gif
Title: Galactic
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 15, 2006, 10:07:00 am
I cant wait

btw I usually use 50 for capture interval and 100 for gif interval, if it goes too slow or too fast use 100 for capture interval and 200 for gif interval (less CPU intensive). If you have grayscale its not very good looking in TilEm tho but its still cool anyway

-Currently I am really stuck on making my fighting engine
-I have optimized about like 65% of my programs
-Got a pause menu fully working

Good progress!  I hope you get the fighting engine finished.  This looks like it's going to be great!

Post by: Halifax on August 28, 2006, 03:08:00 pm
Bad news: My old engine got erased
Bad news: Spent the whole day making a new one
Bad news: Found the old engine on my comp after I made the new one
Good news: The new one is faster with the Xlib getkey not TI-OS

So later on I will post some screenies showing the difference in speed
Title: Galactic
Post by: katmaster on August 28, 2006, 06:53:00 pm
Wow, lotsa work. Cool that it's faster though.

At least something good came from it.
Title: Galactic
Post by: kalan_vod on August 29, 2006, 11:38:00 am
Yeah, and I find xLIB to be quicker than that of the OS.
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on August 29, 2006, 01:20:00 pm
@kalan Yes it is faster but it can not be used with a While statement like
real(8
Ans->K
While K!=0
...so on...
Title: Galactic
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 29, 2006, 01:21:00 pm
very true, and it may stop moving twice all the time when pressing the key for more than one picosecond
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on August 29, 2006, 01:24:00 pm
yea that's another thing that I hate about the the xlib getkey I think it is because it uses "getcsc" or however you spell it instead of "getkey"
Title: Galactic
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 29, 2006, 01:27:00 pm
key detecxtion can be a lil slower on xlib getkey, it allow more possibility tho. it use direct input actually, but I dunno what is the routine
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on August 31, 2006, 03:06:00 pm
I need help because this routine doesn't work i need a routine the returns zero if C or D or E or F not equal to zero and return zero if G!=8 or 80 or H!=8 or 48. Heres my code that doesnt work. I need it to return one only when both are right

(((G=8 or G=80) or (H=8 or H=48)) and (C or D or E or F=12))

Post by: Halifax on September 01, 2006, 08:51:00 am
Also on another note the game is basically done except for one problem I have about 15-180 maps to make and interface them all together with hooking and stuff for program scrolling so if anyone would be interested in helping me develop some levels that would be great. I have made my own mapmaker already with an extensive set of about 94 tiles that you could use.

I got this sweet AI that is fairly simple and never depends on the coordinate's of the player or it never just moves around randomly. The AI is based on a sight routine that I made that I'm looking to edit in the future but for now will work. Also the AI will look for a position to hide if it becomes badly hurt.

cool, screenie! :Dbiggrin.gif That sounds very advanced, how fast does it run?
Title: Galactic
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 13, 2006, 01:07:00 am
wow I missed this topic, nice to see this progressing. How many maps do you have so far?
Title: Galactic
Post by: Halifax on September 13, 2006, 11:11:00 am
it runs fairly fast becuase i dedicated a whole section of this game to a fighting engine lol its not just a modded regular engine. And I have 37 maps done right now.

This is a sweet looking game... Seeing all this stuff really makes me want to get back into programming, but I never have any good ideas and I don't know whether to learn assembly or just expand my BASIC-ness (as opposed to l33t-ness) <.<

I'm sorry to say but I'm shutting down Galactic and moving on to work on an RPG called Eve of the Afternoon. I have learned some things about myself though while creating Galactic. Anyways I'm shutting it down cause personally I think Galactic sucks and the motivation to output that code when I don't like it is not there.

EDIT: Can an admin please shutdown this forum topic
