Looks like an ordinary screenshot, right? (Well, except for the actual content :P) But here's the URL: http://clrhome.org/homer/ERR:DOMAIN%D6%FF1:%FFQuit%D62:Goto.gif
This is Homer (http://clrhome.org/resources/homer/), a quick web project to create on-the-fly homescreen images from any text you pass to it. I'll probably add a UI soon.
EDIT: Done! Access it at http://clrhome.org/homer/!
EDIT2: Added a charmap! Now you can do weird stuff like add a cursor.
EDIT3: Inverse color support—see http://ourl.ca/10023/196436/ for details.

That program is sure looking neat!
----
I just made an UI Deep, you can find it here:
http://ephan.57o9.org/HomerUI/ (http://ephan.57o9.org/HomerUI/)
I made it in a few minutes, I'll add some stuff saying Homer is a project made by Deep Thought, but it's functional for now.
-
That's awesome! Great job, Deep. :) (And ephan as well).

To complement ephan's UI, and whatever Deep Thought has in the works, I made a very simple UI that doesn't even require any JavaScript and can be found at http://calcdude84se.tk/homer.html (http://calcdude84se.tk/homer.html)

@ephan and calcdude: I didn't know you were working on UIs (calcdude, yours isn't loading :()! Here's mine: http://clrhome.org/homer/

I made an UI because you hadn't made one yet :)

Maybe a char table?

Small update: The UI (http://clrhome.org/resources/homer/) now does line breaks correctly in Chrome and Safari. No other browsers support it yet.
EDIT: Another small update: Fixed overlapping text in IE.
Maybe a char table?
For special characters, look in http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/83lgfont (http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/83lgfont) and then find the appropriate character in http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm (http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm). Sorry for the inconvenience.

And because each time each image is loaded, it saps resources from Juju's server :P
Actually, I have CloudFlare cache all my images, so server load is actually pretty minimal.
And an awesome update: A char map (http://clrhome.org/resources/homer/) is now available!
Doesn't work on the first row of http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/83lgfont but then the only thing you might need from it would be n.

I used to use one called ALWAYS42 (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/405/40547.html). Fun.
Tho it's in BASIC so it uses an asm program called ONBLOCK :P
EDIT: So the textarea automatically makes newlines but the pic doesn't...
EDIT (Deep Thought): The number of fake shots in this thread's kinda getting ridiculous >.>

Darl181, did you read my post above? D:
EDIT: Edited.

Missed the post, sorry :(

EDIT: So the textarea automatically makes newlines but the pic doesn't...
Known bug:Small update: The UI (http://clrhome.tk/resources/homer/) now does line breaks correctly in Chrome and Safari. No other browsers support it yet.
But I thought you said it worked in Fx6, right? Works perfectly in Chrome and Safari.
By the way, another small update: An icon was added ;D
-
Before, it wasn't automatically making newlines in the text area but now it is.
The display part isn't doing that, tho.
-
Before, it wasn't automatically making newlines in the text area but now it is.
Ah, I might have been in the middle of an update. The display part isn't doing that, tho.
er what do you mean?
-
Idk how to explain it well..
The text area
automatically
makes newlines
to fit the words
without wrapping
them (like this)
But the picture
does not wrap, i
t just causes br
eaks in the midd
le of the word l
ike this.
-
Oh, that's what I meant. In Chrome and Safari text shows up like the second block there (exactly as it would appear in the image). But all other browsers refuse to break in the middle of a word :P
-
Is there a way to have the browser treat it as individual chars, instead of words?
Maybe after every char (for the textarea) use a different font, 1 "pixel" narrower and have some special space char (the 1 pix between the tokens) separate into not-words?
-

There's no element for that, and I'm too lazy to script it all out. Sorry :/
By the way, I just got the most awesome shortened URL ever for one of these images: http://is.gd/WAR2Y0.png
-
Minor update: Neat little animation while you wait for the form to load :D
-
Homer is a cool little toy, but is it useful?
Yes. Yes it is.
Bug report: When there's a character in the last two columns, in the pic, there will be an extra newline added...picture explanation:
Here's what I enter in Homer:
Saying stuff yay
This is text!!!
W00t
As you see, no extra newlines.
Here's the picture:
Extra newlines after "Saying stuff yay" and "This is text!!!" because there are characters in the last two columns of the pic.
-
The extra newline after "Saying stuff yay" is correct (since that's the way the calculator handles a full line). The one after "This is text!!!" is a bug, and it has been fixed :)
And another update: awesome font now works in Internet Exploader :w00t:
EDIT: And fixed some proportions.

What is a homescreen? (I only use casio calcs)

It basically means that you can only use text - no graphics.

Yep, just the screen where you type your math.

Oh, like RUN-MAT mode on fx-9860?

You should make a version that emulates the FX-9860.
Not a bad idea.
And please keep this in mind:
Maybe we should stop saying everything using screenshots, to keep this topic clean for giving suggestions and reporting bugs on Homer?
And because each time each image is loaded, it saps resources from Juju's server :P
Else I'll add a CAPTCHA/take it down/whatever.
Bandwidth isn't too bad because I have a caching service installed, but still, this isn't a spam thread, as ephan said.

Yes the homescreen is the TI-83/84+ equivalent of RUN-MAT mode (I also use a 9860G :))

Under the Omnimaga kitchen, look for the old cracked steps. (Just don't go in the blue door, that's my lab)

is that where your blue lobster's are?
What I meant is where is omnimaga based?
and where do you get a blue lobster?
-
and where do you get a blue lobster?
Netham45 clones.
OK back on topic...whatever it is.
-
Uh... I think it says "On-the-fly screenshots (homescreen only)"
-
Kinda similar, but not really, can we have emoticons that are black and white pixels? They could be used for sprites and stuff.
-

Is that a sprite request or a request for something I could put online?
-
This is nice Deep Thought. I lost the game in the first post, though. <_<
-
It would go on the forum, I guess. Just a white pixel and a black pixel emoticon. It would be useful for quickly making a sprite in a post, or for diagramming stuff.
-
I just now noticed this thread, and I have to say, that's a pretty neat little tool there. I haven't yet thought of a good reason to use it, but I do like that it exists.

Thanks. I came up with the idea because when I write tutorials, I like providing actual screenshots for code (see http://omniurl.tk/6825/125654/ (http://omniurl.tk/6825/125654/), for instance), but typing and screenshotting in WabbitEmu for every few lines was taking too long. And so I thought of a way I could generate screenshot-like images that could be dynamically changed whenever I wanted, even if I didn't have an emulator nearby.
-
Yeah that really speed things up. Sometimes I also want to show an example of ASCII graphics to someone for map ideas and I have to use WabbitEmu, which gets annoying when it's just for a screenshot.
-
Noticed a bug:
The homescreen is only 8 characters tall, but the editor @ clrhome.tk/resources/homer is 11 characters tall.
-
...in Internet Explorer, correct? :)
Either that or Opera. All other browsers I've tested do it correctly.
-
IE9. Yes.
-
There ya go. There's your problem :D
-
opera does the same thing
-
Yep, as I said:
Either that or Opera. All other browsers I've tested do it correctly.
IE and Opera don't apply the rule line-height: 0.8 to the textarea's rows attribute. It's a bug.
-
I just realized... Thanks to a certain feature of Unicode standards, Homer isn't capable of displaying subscript characters (such as the 1 in L1) and maybe a few others characters. How important are these to you?
-
Deep, my resolution is 1366*768. What if you made HOMER UI Maker work like that webpage of yours that requires no scrolling?
I mean, I see a lot of space you can cut and make it work for computers with resolution minor than 724 (lower than that is hard and would break design).
I'm not sure if it's doable, but it would look better.
-
Done. Better?
And I fixed the issue with subscripts. Use %80 for [size=0]0[/size], %81 for [size=0]1[/size], and so on.
-
How does one go about actually getting the screenshot? :( Nevermind, didn't see the syntax part of the OP lol.
-
Click "Screenshot"? It redirects you to the image, which you can link to/save/whatever.
-
Yeah, I didn't see the syntax part of the OP, but when I clicked Screenshot the first time I went there it didn't redirect me.
-
I just happened to be testing something at that moment. It should be working now :)
-
Crazy timing on my part then lol. But yup, it's all working :D
-
If you'd timed it even better you could have seen a blank page :P
Any suggestions? ephan suggested limiting the textarea at eight rows, and I'm trying to do that right now.
-
Yeah, I noticed the more-than-8-row thing too. I don't think it's really that bad, but if you don't fix it, I'd say just do a check to see if the user goes over and when they press "Screenshot" just let them know it won't all be captured or something.
-

Hey, that's a good idea. I have other bugs to deal with ATM though.

You know what would be a terrible, terrible idea for a new error message? This:
But yeah, inverse color support! Just wrap whatever text you want inverted with %FF in the URL. (This image is at http://clrhome.org/homer/ERR:MISSING%20)%0D%0A%FF1:%FFQuit%0D%0A2:Goto.gif (http://clrhome.org/homer/ERR:MISSING%20)%0D%0A%FF1:%FFQuit%0D%0A2:Goto.gif).)

I don't think there's another thread with as many invalid links per post as this XD
The site's been moved to clrhome.org, so Homer's at http://clrhome.org/homer/ now.
-

lol
-
Yay for breaking even more links!
Homer has been moved one directory higher, and the URL format has changed as well. The new URLs are of the form http://clrhome.org/homer/[TEXT].[FORMAT], where [TEXT] is the URL-encoded text and [FORMAT] can be any of 'gif', 'png', or 'jpg'.
The benefit here (besides allowing JPEG and PNG images in addition to GIF) is that images are now cacheable—when you use the same URL, the image isn't fetched again, saving a lot of your browser load and server load here.
-
...five months later...
New:- Image will expand as necessary - for example to show a program's entire source (see screenshot below)
- Support for typing →, ≠, etc. directly into the editor - should make things simpler
(http://clrhome.org/homer/PROGRAM%3AK31337%D6%3ALbl%20A%D6%3AClrHome%D6%3ADisp%20%22NIcK%20DIsabatO%27s%22%2C%22/%3C-3R33%2B%20NuMber%22%2C%22GuessInG%20PrOGraM%22%2C%22%22%2C%22CHOOse%20a%20nuMber%22%2C%22FrOM%201-30%22%D6%3ALbl%20P%D6%3APrompt%20A%D6%3ALbl%20B%D6%3AIf%20A%3E30%20or%20A%3C1%D6%3AThen%D6%3ADisp%20%22Out%20OF%20ranGe%21%22%D6%3AGoto%20P%D6%3AElse%D6%3AGoto%20C%D6%3AEnd%D6%3ALbl%20C%D6%3AClrHome%D6%3ArandInt%281%2C30%29%1CB%D6%D6%3AClrHome%D6%3ALbl%20D%D6%3AIf%20A%18B%D6%3AThen%D6%3ADisp%20%22NO%2C%20tHat%27s%20nOt%22%2C%22It%21%22%D6%3APrompt%20A%D6%3AIf%20A%3E30%20or%20A%3C1%D6%3AThen%D6%3ADisp%20%22Out%20OF%20ranGe%21%22%D6%3AGoto%20D%D6%3AElse%D6%3AGoto%20D%D6%3AEnd%D6%3AElse%D6%3ADisp%20%22YES%21%22%2C%22NIcK%27s%22%2C%22tIcaLc.OrG%22%2C%22passwOrd%20Is%22%2C%22%2A%2A%2A%2A%2A%2A%2A%2A%2A%2A%22%D6%3APause%20%D6%3AClrHome%D6%3AEnd%D6%3AStop.gif)
Changed:- Syntax (again) - image URL uses the actual TI character codes (linebreaks are %D6 now)
Fixed:- Added "compatibility mode" to fix all those broken images :D
Unfortunately, most of the broken images point to clrhome.tk (which is no more), so they're still broken.
-
Hmm... can we actually parse 8xp files and text files containing, for example SourceCoder stuff, because I wonder how well this would work if parsing code from Illusiat 13 event programs, for example. Would my computer's 8 GB of RAM be enough to open such image? O.O
-
Would Juju's server have enough RAM to generate it? :P
-
Would Juju's server have enough RAM next to all the IRC bots running on it to generate it? :P
And it's cool btw! :D
-
Would Juju's server have enough RAM to generate it? :P
Well if it requires server RAM, then I doubt it, considering it doesn't even have enough to run MediaWiki properly. :P
