Title: Invalid Tangram DE
Post by: KermMartian on July 19, 2007, 06:44:00 pm
I am happy to release my primary calculator project for the last month or so, Invalid Tangram for the TI-83+/SE/84+/SE series.  Invalid Tangram can best be described as a cross between Space Invaders and Tetris. Build block combos to gain powerups, then blast the enemies into oblivion while avoiding destruction. Instead of health, you have time: powerups add to your time, but enemy shots can remove it. Run out of time and the game ends. Invalid Tangram DE is based on the PC game by Josh Szepietowski and is available for both Doors CS 6.0 and Ion.

I did not posted this on cemetech because forums won't let me post but I think this should be featured on ticalc.org when it appears O_Oshocked2.gif

it look awesome, and pretty much like the original which i had on my PC for a while before the crash. Keep up the good work on those new programs!

:Dbiggrin.gif Thanks DJ_Omnimaga, glad to hear it.  Yup, I too am a big fan of the PC version, which is what prompted me to make this.  I'll look into your forum access.

Great looking game, and the font is nice as well. Graphically looks really nice, I have yet to play but looks just as amazing. Definitely a feature IMO, been a while since a shooter has been released on the z80s. Great work with the title screen as well, but the in-game menu of bars looks really great!

i hope this get featured, but apparently michael v is against it a bit because of the spam he got via email about the game. I think this is what made contra 83 not get featured last time x.x

hopefully he will change his mind because it's a great game

Spam? I think some of the Cemetech members might have emailed him about it, but that's what ticalc.org's About page says to do.  That seems kinda prejudiced if "many people like it" == "spam".

Edit: And since when is he the omniscient guru about who gets to be feature? There's other news editors too. :(sad.gif

Well Michael_V is the only news editor who is active so far.

I personally think they should feature it anyway even if they got lot of emails (which they seems to call spam), because in some case it could be out of your control, like, everyone who liked the game emailed them

Yeah I remember when I first saw this without any of the graphical dressings it was still sweet. Looks like a lot of in-game action.

Thanks again. MV said he will consider featuring if I "polish" it a bit based on his suggestions.

by polish what does it means?

It means, 'I don't like you, but I may if I feel like it'

I would just like to say this to the community.

Michael_V doesn't have to do crap, but he has been taking away from his free time to help the community and keep the community updated for sometime now, so why are we going to get on him for one thing? If I recall he is a volunteer and I would rather not runaway someone who is helping the community in an amazing way. I mean this is like bugging the developers of Blender, GIMP, GCC, or any other free software developers. Do we seriously forget all the food that someone has brought to our plate over a subject as pitiful as a little feature. I certainly wouldn't complain/bug/diss the GCC developers when I am building all my programs everyday with their compiler. It is simple respect!

This is not directed at anyone personally.

Still, I feel it is kind of biased if projects get featured not only based on their abilities, but their author's connection to the news editor. If Phantom Star got featured when there was almost nothing different about it from Phoenix other than that it was horizontally-based and a bit slower (or "smoother", whatever you want to call it) and if one of the worst games I've ever played, Coaster 83, got featured in a snap, then I think IT should be featured, along with DCS. I think by "polish", MV also meant making it compatible with MOS, which pretty much defeats the main purpose of the game (to show the true powers of DCS).

If my post seemed to be bashing of Michael_V, sorry, this is not what i intended to do. I disagree with the new standards though, because it's so extremly hard to make games for today standard that in 2009 I'm sure there will be no more POTY because features will have been abolished.

I strongly agree with Super Speler and DJ_Omnimaga.  Michael_V intimated to me in #tcpa that he thinks the featuring standards have gotten less strict under his administration, but I disagree.  I think they've gotten maybe not more strict, but certainly more biased.  For example, TiLP 1.04 gets an article? "Zomg, we added 200 lines of code to send OSes over TiLP! Hip hip hooray!" :lol:bounce2.gif

Yeah, see how xLIB got no features. Again, he made Omnicalc, but that's still biased considering omnicalc is less game oriented than xlib

If you haven't noticed if he likes the person he features even minor updates.

TheStorm that is clearly not true as TiLP only gets so many articles because it is a universal calculator program, and that is the same with TIGCC. That is straight from Michael's mouth.
Logs(proof):
QUOTE

...
I mean, as BrandonW (I think) mentioned before, ticalc.org used to have a program of the month
you might have the best game of the summer
the odds would probably favor it
I wasn't the one who said that...I was here when someone did, though.
but historically it's not at all good
yup, I got that
afk for coding
compare it to 2004 or such and it looks awful by comparison
I ponder these issues
if I don't feature enough programs, we don't have enough news then
but then it's not entirely fair to people years ago who would have gotten the same thing rejected
Talk about minute Nspire updates.
or the latest minor-minor TiLP version :Ptongue.gif
The best game of the summer would be SM 68K
shush :Ptongue.gif
Windows Fax and Scan from the Start menu...finally...
I know I post too many TiLP articles but it has universal calculator model appeal :Ptongue.gif
...
in any case, you will be the only file in the most recent updates until an archiver gets around until processing some more
Two minutes before! Check the logs!
(really small pixels)
that's almost as good as featured
...

As you can see Michael offered a very good second choice instead of a feature, so he has tried to please Kerm. He isn't all bad, but I guess you guys really don't hang out in #tcpa/see him say all this stuff.

Secondly you don't need to have a connection with Michael_V to get a feature, so there is no reason to even communicate with him. Also in the matter of xLIB I do not think it would have anything to do with the author since he featured tr1p1ea's Desolate(http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/11/115/115911.html).

Anyways on the other side. Why are we seeking features?? Shouldn't we be seeking community recognition and personal gain. Kerm I think you already have community recognition with this program. Features aren't the only things that make the world go around are they? There are other sites to get features to right? Calcgames.org does features so why not submit ITDE to calcgames.org to see if it gets featured there.

I understand your point. However, I remember on MaxCoders back in the old days of the Ikonboard forum, which got hacked in late 2004 and deleted, Lot of people had no respect for me and made fun of me until the day where RL3 was featured. On top of that I think until getting RL3 and zelda featured i got like 3 or 4 downloads per week on ticalc, even with RL1, RL2 and RL3 online. Basically only a few people cared
