Title: Midnight: A Thief's Tale
Post by: Calculatorer on May 29, 2009, 12:31:59 pm
This is just an idea: I'm completely sure I can't do this.

Plot:
You play as an infamous thief, known only as Midnight. Your house and all your things have been repossessed falsely by some evil rich dude. In order to side with justice (for once), you go around robbing stores in order to buy back your things and hire hitmen and decoys from the Black Market. Soon, you and your team of thieves rob the rich dude's house and claim it as your own.

Gameplay:
I'm thinking this should be a game like The Classroom with stores and a black market instead of students and police instead of a teacher.
Afterwards, it should turn into a platform game with a boss fight at the end.

For those of you who have not played The Classroom, it is a game in which you walk around the class, cheating off of students and avoiding being seen by the teacher.

Instead of spending an hour making an example of a map on my TI-84+, ill just type it up here.

/  S     S     S     S     S     S   /
/                                         /
/  S     ///////////////////     S   /
/////        S     S     S        /////
/S                                      S/
////////////              /////////////
/BM                                      /
/                                          /
/                                          /
/////////////////////////////////////

/ is a Wall
S is a Store
BM is the Black Market

If a cop sees you, you get a fine of $500. After you get $15,000, another cop should show up.
In the stores, you can get a random amount of money between $100 and $1,000.
In the black market, you hire teammates to help rob stores, but they take a percent.
Also, you buy the key to the rich guy's mansion, but it costs a lot of money, like $20,000.

Get creative with the boss fight and make this awesome.
I want to shed a single tear while playing this.

That's actually a pretty good idea.
I'd do it if I didn't already have 2 calculator projects in the works.

Not to mention several other projects that need a LOT of supervision.

Original game, I liked it. If I already had an engine for platforms or ASCII maps, I would make it. But no for now...

Don't worry about it, just make sure you stay on topic x.x, else Netham45 will kill you (not myself, noah nor {AP}, as we leave all the dirty work to Netham45... just kidding :P), but yeah not to mention off-topicness can sometimes be considered as spam. ANYWYA, This is an interesting project, though, I personally will not work on it since I am alerady working on Illusiat 13 and some other (smaller) stuff. However it could maybe give me or someone else inspiration for a future project :)

What an epic title. Midnight... Makes me think its an action game. But it hits you on the head and says no Im a simulator. But simulators do quite well, look at mafia.

I comprehend, you just got enthusiastic about the game. A seek and hide game is definitely a win mini-game for RPG...

Well, with a map that small for what you are doing, you could expand it a little bit and use the RPGSK.. It is set up so new programmers can learn how to make games similar to this with ascii graphics.
