Title: My Current Project
Post by: XiiDraco on December 13, 2012, 10:16:11 pm
At the moment I am working on a top down apocalyptic zombie survival game. I mean hey isn't every one? Its the usual kill zombies and get money and buy guns type thing. But for my first game I would like to put a twist on it. I will make the map edit able by the player to were you can build a Base/House/Bunker to fend of zombies with. To build the house you will need to travel to the mall and get the supplies. In the mall there are 3 locations to go to. The hardware store, the grocery/clinic(medical supplies)/and the gun shop. Don't ask why the stores aren't over run by zombies, it's irrelevant (The clerks are BA's). To get to the mall you have to travel on the road for a bit. Then with the supplies you can build a house and survive better!

What I currently have done:
-Main menu
-Basic game play(player movement, zombies)
What I am currently working on
-Advanced game play
-Maps
-Money
-In-game menu

Sounds cool.
I tried making a zombie game for the Nspire, but couldn’t figure out sdl.
Depending on how fast this is and how good the animation is, this sounds pretty hipster

Thanks, right now it runs no problem but it doesn't have alot of stuff into it so it will run perfect anyway.
Although my calc randomly crashes periodicity, but hey my calc is skrewed up anyway so I don't know what it is.

I assume this is on a 83/84? Also, is this in Axe, Basic, or perhaps Grammar? :)

You should remember to back up your calc on your computer often.

Now that's out of the way... Screenshots and Demo can has?

Only for 84 models ? Won't work on 83+ ?

Don't worry, I'm used to backing it up ;). I'm gonna delete the OS today and copy one from a friend. Then get finished with some more stuff like the in game menu.
As for screen shots, I have no idea how you people do them, and If I knew how to post an Alpha/Demo I would. Any help with that?

I do not know if it will work on 83. I will test it at school today.

Use WabbitEMU or TilEM to emulate your calc (first you must get the proper ROM off YOUR calc) and use their built-in screenshot feature! :D

Of course it won't work on a 83 if it is in Axe. I asked the compatibility for the 83+ ;)
Do you use the "Full" command ? If not, then it works on a 83+ too, that is all I have to know :)

I am using the Full command but I can make a compatable version that doesn't have that because its not all that necessary.

Don't use the full command untill it's needed, then a lot more people would love ya xD

If I don't need it in the end I will remove it. As for now I will keep it for testing purposes. Unfortunatly my calculator has had its OS removed and I am trying to put on a new one.

Alright I got the OS back on my calc and its 2.53 now. There seems to be an occasional crash when exiting the program for some reason. Anyways I would like to have people test it but I don't know ho to upload it. Any help?

WARNING:A crash that is bound to happen will cause RAM loss. Use at your own risk. (Archive everything)
(I know you guys aren't stupid I just want to give a fair warning)

PS:The game is nowhere near finished. I don't even have sprites. (Don't worry, I will soon!)

EDIT: I removed the file because it was bad and crashed alot. The new ones are up anyway...

If you have a computer link cable, all you'll need to do is open up TI Connect, copy the file(s) onto the comp, then there *should* be a "attach files" button in the post editor.

Directions:
"D-pad" for movement
2,4,6,and 8 shoot in the direction relative to 5
clear opens the menu
5 quits

NOTE:It is DEFINITELY UNFINISHED I just posted this to show a little bit of progress on it.

So, I am pretty sure the program is at fault for the crashes partially witht the fact that I just downgraded to 2.53 which is aparrently worse!
It started crashing after I implemented the flames from the flames tutorial. I would like someone to look over the code if possible and figure out what the problem is. I have no clue what it is. Thanks!
BTW : my code is VERY sloppy so please don't criticize me XD

But still i'm gonna test it with higher os... Cause we don't want people to be unhappy...

Ok now I have the 2.43 OS...YAY!

Don't triple post... or just try not to... it is considered rude...

Don't worry though, almost all of us have done it at some point!

Yeah
Many people will think: stop asking attention, be patient, don't spam to higher your post count

But back to topic: what's already implemmented?
-mapping
-movement
-shoothing
-AI?
-shops?
-building?

There is
-Movement
-Shooting
-AI(for zombies)
What I'm doing in the next few hours
-Better player and zombie characters/symbols(right now squares and plus's aren't going to cut it)
-More maps(The road maps and the mall)
-Ammo counter
-Kill counter
-Money counter

What would be good sprites for the player and zombies?
I am trying to keep them under 4x4, but It doesn't really matter if they go higher.

Ok now I have the 2.43 OS...YAY!

please don't double post (twice). if it has been a day already since you last posted in a topic, then it's fine, but for shorter period of time make sure you use the modify button and add it to your previous post. modifying a post will label it as unread for anyone who has not seen your new content.

Chilliax. One person that mentioned it was a moderator(myself) and another a forum admin. We just want to make sure people follow the rules, that's all. :) We have also had people in the past that seemed to miss what we were saying completely despite it being pointed out to them.

In regards to sprite size, 4x4 or less is pretty small, especially for a game done from a top down perspective. I don't think you'll be able to get the detail you want out of that. I'd recommend giving 8x8 a try.
Title: Re: My Current Project
Post by: XiiDraco on December 15, 2012, 09:37:05 pm
Sorry about that, I have had more than just 2 people say that already...
anyway as for the sprites, I think 8x8 is a bit to big for the overall screen size.
but if you think it will work better than you're probably right.

EDIT:I have solved all problems with my project and It will no longer crash.

Then just use nRGBlib; that's what use instead of nSDL.

Funny as It is I have finished sprites already and it has only been 15 minutes. My sprites are terrible though. Does any one have any 8x8 soldier and zombie sprites? That would be amazing if you did!

Once again the download is here. I need all the feedback I can get! Thanks alot!

Just a heads up, it'd be nice to put up a screenshot along with your download, so we know what we're getting into! You can do that in WabbitEmu, and upload the image to imgur or img.removedfromgame.com

Yeah I have been trying to do that for a while I just don't know how.
Were can I get this and how can I use it?

EDIT: My calculator wont let me send D84PBE1 and D84PBE2 back to my computer, so I can't use Wabbitemu... Help?

Ok i was so gently to make a screenie ;p

and i noticed: there are no shops? probably it still has to come...
- it's a tiny bit too slow...
- there's no map limit... so when player goes up, or left, zombie goes down/right... (0-65536)
- bullets keep, shooting after hitting enemy
Title: Re: My Current Project
Post by: XiiDraco on December 17, 2012, 05:23:05 pm
Thanks for the feed back now I can change the bullet coladeralness.
The shops are going to be 5 screens over(you have to travel to them)
I just rebuilt most of it to add in the sprite support, so I will make the map limit right now (its 3 if statements)

What do you mean by slow?

EDIT: are you using an 83?
If so 83 doesn't support Full command
I will make a version for 83 after I finish the game :)

IDK?- it's a tiny bit too slow...
FIXED- there's no map limit... so when player goes up, or left, zombie goes down/right... (0-65536)
FIXED- bullets keep, shooting after hitting enemy

UPDATE: I have added some more stuff, like a background. Now I'm working on the different maps.
Any feedback? Constructive criticism is great!

Sorry for the double post, I felt it would be confusing If I had 2 downloads in one post.

MAJOR difference and I think its complete enough to enter the apocalyspe contest.
After the contest im gonna take a short break from it and then resume with
-Grayscale
-More shop options
-Moar zombies
-Better sprites
-Even MOAR content!!!

Thanks but the screenie is way behind ;)
I need to upload the latest one.
Yet unfortionetly wabbitemu wont work so I can't make screenies :(

Since the last update I added
-More map segments(6 total right now)
-Shops(not alot of items in them)
-MUCH better sprites
-Daytime and nightime
-Waves
-Moneys
-Zombie modifiers(they get harder)
-Fatser bullet travel
-Faster players
