Post by: woods_dragon on November 01, 2005, 10:47:00 am
my new project is a top down pit fighting rpg,  set in the dragon lance world of Kyrnn.
I am using codex and onblock to help with basic.
All that i got is the title screen, main menu, and the stats screen

matrix... 8*11, with sprites placed on map based on numbers in matrix...
then people could make their own maps....

looks like this (done in text becuse sprites not ready yet):

like that except with sprites.  :Dbiggrin.gif
battle would probally be turn based.
some day if i get really good, i would aim for multiplayer.

btw, you can see the stuff i have so far:

look pretty nice, but shouldnt you use omnicalc or xLIB instead of Codex? Becuase its faster. There is also the old xlib which is slower but easier to use than the new one and its not a flash app like the new one. Omnimaga archives are still down but the file is avaliable at http://omnimaga.unitedti.org/xLIB_0.3a.zip :)smile.gif

EDIT wait a demo!! *Kevin downloads
EDIT you should try a better host, because it wont let me download the file, i get a blank page. Try geocities maybe, at least it allow hotlinking :(sad.gif

its the full title on revsoft. also i can't get on omnimaga at school but i can get on revsoft.
any way... i started work on the shop, and did some improvements on other things.  Still working a geocities website. my new site: http://j.domaindlx.com/woodsxdragon/
the site is in progress.... :Dbiggrin.gif  you can download the 8xg from the dragonlance page. info about the group:

animation is a bunch of animations
demo is what my mapping will look like
shop is just a menu right now
drgnlance is the actual program

well what do you think? ;)wink.gif

I tried it and it sound nice, I hope to see a xlib version soon because it will run a lot faster and allow more stuff. Will this be a battle arena only or will there be some dungeons to visit and random battles?

Post by: woods_dragon on November 03, 2005, 10:19:00 am
once i get how to use the sprite function in xlib...
dungeons? probably not.
overworld? maybe
arena? more than one, all the arena is, is the data in the [a] matrix
got the weapon part of the shop done.

how is the best way to do the tilemap function in xlib?
Title: my new pit fighter rpg
Post by: dragon__lance on November 03, 2005, 01:24:00 pm
wat do u mean, normally just draw a 12*8 tile map on the screen, made from a 8*12 matrix. If u want the tilemap to only cover a certain part of the screen, then just use the screen start and screen end functions
Note:smaller tile maps draw faster :)smile.gif

oh.... i been doing the same kind of thing except with a matrix sprite loop.... its in the 8xg in my site under "demo"

Post by: dragon__lance on November 03, 2005, 03:16:00 pm
i'd recommend u use xlib though, way faster :)smile.gif

Title: my new pit fighter rpg

looks good, is this going to be in real time?
Title: my new pit fighter rpg
Post by: woods_dragon on November 08, 2005, 02:29:00 pm
turn based... for now...
it has animation and the hit detection for the battle, but monster(two so far) cant move or attack.... i will work on it tommorow... :Dbiggrin.gif  love having a studyhall w/ no homework.
oh... in the pic... you see the pretty black potion... u step on it and your hp goes up by 10... thats why the hp is like 100/20... i ran the program like 8 times... it's not a bug just wanted to test it.

so heres the progress:like 30%-40%
shop: weapons(x8 or 9), dontation part done(donate money to village to get bonus stuff... like hp and mp upgrades and the best weapon). need to do armour and useable stuff
battle: basics done... need to make specials, ranged, and magic.
stat screen: done
overworld:...still working on this one...it will probally some random battles and a few places to visit... like the arena and the shop... right now the overworld is a text menu...:)smile.gif
enemy sprites: i need help with these... all i got is a poorly drawn jellfish and bear like thing. i need some for human like enemies and animal
classes: i dont know about that yet... but there will be magic and ranged attacks.

srry.. i know double post... u may have seen my error. a missed goto. made the shop go to stats on exit. worked on battle. all programmed commands work, and win, level messages done.

that's cool :)smile.gif maybe u should consider eliminating all lables and instead switch to subroutines

oh I didnt noticed the error at first :Dbiggrin.gif

yeah since I dont use lbl/gotos since a year I dont have those errors much anymore, unless I forget an end somewhere, which I do often

game look nice so far :)smile.gif

Looks very nice. Your main character reminds me of Gateway to Apshai for the C64.

Maybe I am old fashioned, but I like turn-based RPGs more than real time... I need time to think about my moves.

Keep up the good work ;)wink.gif

same here, as long as turns arent as long as in fft. I like real time too though, but more in the style of Tales of Phantasia or Star Ocean :)smile.gif

The pinnicale of Turn Based Battle systems is FF4-6 wich can be set to semi real time and I LOVE it (maybe T14 will do that...)

the reign of legends series, and illusiat 6-12 are semi real time, I mean it only stop when you choose actions in menus in battles

yes i am still working on it, but very, very little. my mem crashed a while ago. so i had to redo a bunch of stuff. i am trying to optimize many things. so... what is the best way to do movement. i am using the get loop where it checks 24,25,26,34,21... i know there is a faster way t do it, but i dont really understand it. maybe the new version of xlib will help my project.

!= means "does not equal to"

Yes, != is the equal sign with a slash through it.

i have scrapped my original game engine and i am working on a different one. i will use part of my sprites and some new ones. same general idea for gameplay, but different name (or same W/different sub title...) and a more fire emblem type of game.
