Title: New Shift Levels
Post by: Builderboy on October 27, 2009, 09:26:05 pm
So in the next version of Shift (which i hope to release soon) I want to add a whole lot more levels to the game, and levels that are particularly challenging.  I myself am not that good at creating levels for this game :P but it would be great if I could have some help on this!  Is anybody willing to help make some new levels to be added onto shift?

I will also be including some bugfixes and feature requests.

can we use the included editor to make them, then send you the data? Also will they be external or internal? Some people might start complaining about game size if they are internal. I'm not sure if I would be able to come up with decent design though

Yeah, you can use the editor.  I am planning for them to be internal, as they don't take up that much space, and Shift is rather small to begin with :) I actually had some complaints from testers that some of the puzzles wee too easy or the game too short :P

I will try, but can't guarantee too good levels :P

I am a lil worried about me making good levels, though, considering I couldn,t even figure out how to beat level 3 (I think) in your game

Ah, i see.  That one gets everybody for some reason :P.  I might have to move it farther up on the level list.

beat it after a while, but you might have to move it up

I think i will.  And some of the levels need a little fixing, some of them can be bypassed :)

Somehow, I seem to have a little problem playing the custom level...
I know what the error is, it's that the saved list is L1, but when trying to play the custom, if the input does not contain "L" (The little tiny one that indicates it's list) it automatically puts in the L for you. So when the game tries to process the edited list, it gives Syntax error, since you are putting LL1, not L1...
So... I kinda edited your codings and made it so that you have 8 saved files, saved as SHIF1, SHIF2, ... SHIF8, and archives them...
You can choose which one to save into when saving the game.
Well, this is until you upload your updated game. And I will try to make fun levels ^^

Yep~~~ I know... I am constantly battling myself with the game design. Well, I guess it is time for me to put up the new screenshot. I put some more stuff in there. So it's not dead!

cool, I was not sure what was the state of it, since you had some coding done before, but your sig tells otherwise

jsj795, in the new version, there is a much nicer and user friendly custom input routine, so that error is eliminated.

(also, the program uses all built in lists to begin with, so they are not a good place to store them)

Yeah~ Meanwhile, I am using modified code... Anyway, I hope to see many fun levels, less bug, etc...

I will be releasing a new version shortly witch has some bug-fixes, updates, and upgrades, and a single new level XD

I am working on a new feature which will be present in the 2.0 release, along with a lot more levels.

I am curious, are u planning to release new version before people make more levels? Because I would kinda like to wait until key for jumping is changed to up arrow, to make sure my levels won't become too easy after the change

I will be releasing the new version soon.  Along with a tiny itsy bit of new features it will also have bug fixes and stuff like that (and 1 new level).

I think DJ said if it's hours between posts, it's not double post, right??? Anyway, @Buildeboy...
The Editor seems to be wrong, the picture variables are all set as 1, when it's supposed to be 23 for the Str3 pic var... Anyway, I fixed that in my prgm and made 2 hard levels (at least in my thought they are hard)... Do you possibly want them???

There were only 2:30 hours between both of these, though, so, never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you. :P J/k but yeah I mean if it has been a while it's ok. It's just if someone double/triple posts within short amount of time like when he asks a question then on his second post is like "y no1 nserin' me??????????????????????" then 3rd post is "please i need help asap!!!1!1!1" it gets annoying x.x

(I can resets someone's post count to like -3000000, though :P)

Hey jsj795, thanks for the levels, their really awesome ;D They look a lot different than all the levels i've seen before too, it adds a nice touch to have such a different type of style :)

:) thanks Buildeboy~
And also, the new update of changing the jump button from 2nd to up was a little hard...
I got so used to 2nd jumping that I lost even lvl 3 or 4 in the built in lvl X.X
Anyways, I hope you will release shift 2 or something soon ^^

Edit: May be for Shift 2, make the map bigger?
