Hello,
I've been working on a new project a little, it's called Orbsim. It's a kind of space flight simulator.
I havent done very much yet, currencly spriting.
Possible features:
Fly with Apollo, Space Shuttle and (maybe) Soyuz
Apollo features:
Launch the rocket from the control center
Accidents can happen, forcing you to return to Earth
Fly to, land AND walk on the Moon
Return to Earth and land in the sea
Space Shuttle features:
Launch rocket from control center
Bring satellites in orbit
Perform space walks
Missed features? Post them!
If you want to join my team, PM me.
Language:
As always, Axe
Developers:
aeTIos
ScoutDavid
Ashbad
Happybobjr
Now working on:
Sprites
Space Shuttle upside view DONE
Space Shuttle booster rockets
Space Shuttle fuel tank
Space Shuttle cockpit views
Apollo rocket stages (side view)
Apollo command and service module
Apollo Lunar Lander
If you missed sprites, make them and post!

This looks very good, will it be like StarCraft?
I could join :) But what language are you programming it in?
-
The language is Axe, edited it in.
I am really looking for other developers, so please join!

Why would it be like StarCraft? It's a space flight sim, not a RTS.
-
I would like to help, but i would need more of an idea what gameplay would be like.

I could make you sprites, so I join the team as a sprite maker?, I mean, can I?
-
I would love to sprite as well. What depth, 1 or 2 bit? And what sizes for sprites? I'm not good at humoungus sprites, my specialty is anything less than or equal to 32x32.
And I can help with programming. This is a cool concept.

Thanks for all the replies.
There is a lot of space for gameplay.
some ideas:
-cockpit and outside view
-time shift forward
-control center view
-some buttons for controlling switches, etc
-2 different difficulties
and lots more! there is much space to play with it!
the sprite size: 8x8 and (but better for details) 16x16 and (i dont know how to handle those) for huge thing: 32x32
please join the team!
BTW: i got the idea for this while playing Orbiter: http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/home.php
really good program, to get the best impression what the Orbsim is intended to do, you should play it!

16*16, divide into two 8*16, or 4 8*8.
32*32 are very hard, have no idea

please join the team!
does that mean we're all in?

Scout, Ashbad and aeTIos.... THE CROWD GOES WILD!
-
I am curious how this will turn out. I personally am not much a fan of team projects, though (I had bad experience with them such as one developer vanishing completly without giving us the source code or rest of info), so I will not join, unfortunately. :(
Good luck!

um..... me?

um..... me?
um..... you!

idk?

idk?
ask aeTIos. If you join, then we are gonna be 4 medium-level programmers working in the same project: BLAST!
-
THis sounds interesting. Are you planning on making it 3d or 2d?

I think 2.5D would be appropriate. 2D would be boring and 3D would be sweet but very hard.

This looks like an interesting project. Maybe if USB programming gets easier, a joystick could be added. (Does usb8x support joysticks?)

As a joystick ever been done on-calc?
-
I always wondered about that, but I think it wouldn't be convenient to have to hold the calc in one hand and the joystick with the other.

I don't know of a game that has done it. I just looked up usb8x, and it says that gamepads work, but most analog usb sticks won't.

Using WabbitEmu and a computer connected Joystick that could be done.
-
What about on-calc, though?
That said I remember using a program a while ago that mapped keyboard keys to a gamepad and used a gamepad with WabbitEmu. It was called JoyToKey or something. It wasn't very practical, though, because arrow movement was absolutely horrible.
-
Thanks, all who join!
i'm looking for a upside- view sprite of an Space Shuttle, i have tried doing it, but it is looking horrible...
also, 2.5 D would be best, yeah.
and happybobjr, of course you're in!
*** aeTIos is wondering how this project will end...
I'm also thinking of realistic gravity, how about this?
-

Imagine how slow it would be. You'd have to use networking protocols to read the joystick and that's going to slow your game way down, especially since you have to account for the fact that you'll occasionally get bad signals from the line.
-
yeah, you're right
joystick is no way.
-
Some kind of tech demo would probably be possible to make, but most likely not a full-fledged game.
-
yes, i meant a full game would be no way :P
-
It would be best with no joystick/gamepad. It would be hard to control when you have to hold the calc with one hand or try looking at it on a desktop while controlling the joystick and the slowdown would make it not worth it. I think the calc keypad is just as fine. We have to remain realistic too.
Anyway, good luck!
-

good idea, I have done this many times before in programs (like wallball), so I can help there too.
-
nice!
-
also, can I see the other sprite you have done already, I have no idea what I should be making mine look like and we don't wanna go from 32x32 2.5D spacecraft to 5.7D demonspawn warrior do we? :D
-
lol
uploading in a minute
-
ok, sounds great ;)
-
okay, here they are! I :hyper: 'd

That's just the title screen or what keys should I use?
-
Yeah it appears to just be the title screen ???

Just checked the code. it is.

*BUMP* What's up with this?
-
I think he has no internet access for the entire holiday break. :(

Ouch, but even before that this went kind of asleep.
-
Yeah true. Hopefully it's not dead.
-
I hope this project is revived, it is sounding really cool ^^
