So yeah, I've begun working on this game again (as I promised I would at the end of the summer). So far it's just trying to figure out my old code (been a while) but I plan on working on items and menus soon.
-
YAY, nice it's still alive. I was getting worried when you started coming online less and less often, I was afraid you moved on to different stuff. I hope to see new screenies soon :)
-
Great, this was looking awesome and I can not wait to see it going again! I hate having to relearn code, but sometimes you come up with a more efficient way or can not touch such greatness! Btw you have any old SS?
-
Sorry, I have no idea what this is, besides know it's a game, any links to a forum that has information on it? description, pictures, etc.?
-
(for some reasons everytime I see this topic title I always think it's a topic promoting necroposting o.O Idk why)
Ethanderial is a xLIB (or Celtic) RPG featuring animated tiles and the plan was to have a massive world, but I believe now it's intended to be smaller than planned but still quite big compared to a lot of alerady existing TI RPGs. I don't remember if it was ARPG or not and if there were multiple characters per battles, though.
-
Thanks DJ, I was just about to post those. I haven't taken a screenshot in ages apparently, I got some new graphics to show off when I get a break from my homework.
I still haven't given much thought on how the combat will work, so as of now there may or may not be multiple characters whom you can fight with. I know I want it to be more then just turn based (have some sort of real time mechanics no matter how small they may be).
-
Ah, those are awesome Speler.... simply put, it looks like the best Basic game animation I've ever seen.
I like the sounds of it, I will definitely download this when it's done, I say keep up the good work, and if I can help with anything, just ask ;)
-
WOW! Those screenies are awesome!
-
Maybe some kind of Ultima-ish tactical battle system?
-
I forgot to ask, what is the storyline behind this game?
-
Basically, you have to free the world from demon invaders commanded by the banished god of death (who cannot enter your world). The actual story is relatively boring, it's going to be the subplots that make it interesting.
-
Care to share some of these subplots?
-
I missed these last posts. By subplots I assume it means side-quests/optional quests, right? Also how is it progressing?
-
That would be awesome to have side quests etc, love to see more bro!
-
Yeah, it's basically all sidequests that make up the larger storyline. You don't need to beat any of them to beat the game, but good luck doing so.
Anyways, no chance of any work for at least a week or so. I have so much schoolwork...
-
yay for challenging side quests with insanely hard bosses. Sorry to hear about work overload x.x
-
nice screenshots!

I agree with kevin 100%, but I would like to add that I want to create something like this [shameless_plug](using apps, I have a similar project in pure basic) [/shameless_plug]..

i wanna play this!
-
Is it possible to pull up a ETA on either a beta, delta, or omega version of it?
-
Yea, that would be nice=)
-
As for release estimate all I know is that it's gonna be released before hell freeze over. However, Hell HAS alerady frozen many times before:
-
That sign is definitely photoshopped.. But funny=)
-
well, that's what I think, but we never know, we could be wrong, because there is a small town called "Hell" in Michigan. There's also one called "Paradise"
-
wow....who would name their city Hell? Hi guys, welcome to hell!
-
lol, I wonder why that's the one picture that my schools filter isn't blocking from here, lol.

-
wow, that would be a cool yet awkward place to live!

So yeah, I've been swamped with work. I was planning on getting some Ethanderial done over the break but I was bedridden and just watched Scrubs instead XD.
I should be getting a break from work next wednesday through sunday plus I'll have long car rides (I'm following around streetlight manifesto with some friends). So expect something next week, no idea what, but something.
Here's my ETA for the beta: One day, when you least expect it. Screenshot two thursdays from now is promised.
-
^.^cool I can't wait, I hope you get less work soon too
-
I am looking forward to the SS, and scrubs is awesome XD...
-
I lost my calculator :(. I have another one at home I asked my mom to send up, but it's an 83+ so things are gonna be moving even more slowly than usual.
Hopefully I can find it...
-
x.x this sucks, that's why I always kept it in my pocket at school so no one take it while I'm not paying attention to it.
-
I found my calculator and got ahead on my work. I'm gonna be able to do tons this thursday and friday.
Also, my friend started learning z80 asm, I'm gonna direct him here.
-
w00t! New progress! And I hope your friend likes ASM and continue coding it and hopefully make some games. If you bring him here please let him know about the board rules though, because most people here use TI-BASIC and we do not allow any form of bigotry. I say that because of bad experiences I got with ASM programmers in the TI community before
-
I started working on this again earlier this week. Nothing really to share yet, but hopefully there will be soon.
-
Phew I was worried about this project too x.x, since you said you would resume work soon. I think you should go with a smaller game though for your first RPG, or at least a demo with less planned features acting as a full game, then later maybe make a bigger one, because RPGs can be hard to finish, especially near the end. WHen they are incredibly long it is harder to find bugs and we get a bit bored near the end of the project and want to start a new RPG :P
Don't give up though :)
-
Glad you are working with calcs still, I really would love to see this worked on but will settle to have you around more ;).
-
Yeah, the thing is I lost my math notebook from last year. It has all the maps and story in it, so I'm gonna have to redo that this week (I remember most of it, but there's gonna be some changes I think).
After that I'm gonna install Celtic III, and code in all the maps.
I'm wondering if I should do the basic combat system first so I can add the enemies as I do that, as opposed to a later date which may be difficult.
-
Well I would consult kevin about that, he has made many combat/rpg combat systems. Sorry to hear of the lost of maps, maybe it will be for the better! Good luck bro
-
New screenies soon...
-
Cool! Btw are you keeping that snow effect like in the old screenshot?
-
Yeah, but the snow effect is only used in the northern portion of the map.
-
aah ok. Have rain in the south ^^
-
Woot for progress! Can't wait to see some screenies. I really like the ones you had when you first started.
-
I am really excited about the future progress of this game! I just can not get over how well the rain/snow works with the system! Almost like corban but with better graphics!
-
Sorry it's taking so long to get the screenshot up, I can't seem to find my silverlink.
It's worth the wait though ;).
-
x.x I hope you find it or can get a new one x.x
-
It better be worth the wait...Jking, I know it will be!
-
So, I had this sudden inspiration for a pure basic game and I'm gonna be taking a one week break to see if it's actually possible.
Then, whether or not it is I'll return to Ethanderial.
-
Lol woot for sudden inspirations! Any hints about what it is?
-
He stolen my Illusiat 12 idea ;.;
j/k I am curious what you will come up with, I do hope Ethanderial will still be alive though :)
-
Good luck on it, keep us posted and SS when you do!
-
I'm gonna set a release date: June 1'st, 2009.
If I don't get it done by them it's gonna be released slightly after July 3'rd as June's gonna be a busy month for me.
-
Woot for release dates! Any screenie..? :)
-
I have one prepared, but don't have a link cable so you'll need to wait till April when I go home.
-
I hope you can also get your IRC fixed at school. I have to wonder if they didn't blocked certain ports which wouldn't allow you to join most servers...
-
Wow, I bet all progress will be made in June ;) jking. Goodluck!
-
Or every Omnimaga programs will be finished in November 2009 as well as Robot War 2, Zelda, Desolate 8 lv gs and more and ticalc will be flooded with awesome goodies and will break a record of features in one news (I think the last record was like 4 or 5, right?) :P

Or some will slip under the radar, so I would release my projects in early school season (august/september).
-
I think the only way to ensure to get something featured there when it's very good is to e-mail them now
-
Hmm, i dunno they do have more staffers now so it maybe possible for them to acually spot some. ^_^
-
True to both, I guess we will all have to find out ;)
-
Already planning features? If I could manage to make something featured and compete with all that, it would be epic.
-
is there a demo yet?
-
No there are none atm.
-
Nope, sorry. I'm not sure if there will be one, or if I'll just release the final version.
I've been working on enemy sprites lately. Some of the old ones were terrible and I want to improve them.
-
thats ok but when do you plan on releasing the final then?

-
I'm hoping for June 1'st. If I can't get it done by then it's not gonna be till about August (because my bands going into the studio then on tour).
-
i hope you finish it by then :)
-
ok
but remember this, if you dont make either of those deadlines i will be completely depressed because you let me down and i would commit suicide and youd be a murderer because by reasoning of logic, you killed me
-

Then I set the deadline to yesterday..Jking, but you should not joke like that ;)
-
true, shit happens in real life or even when no shit happens sometimes it's just more job at work and more school work, especially since most people around here are at College or heading for university.
-
oh sorry
-
Okay, I *might* be going home this weekend. If I do there will be a few new screenshots. I didn't really prepare anything so it'll just be showing some puzzle mechanics and sprites I've been working on.
-
pretty sexy
-
nice to hear :)
-
Can not wait to see them, maybe your new CSCI friend will help you ;) jking!
-
I forgot my calc at school so you'll have to wait till tuesday for screenies, but they're coming :)
-
I forgot my calc at school so you'll have to wait till tuesday for screenies, but they're coming :)
Just have your Revsoft buddy pick it up for you :D
-
mhmm I hope you won't get it stolen x.x, or do you mean it's in your locker?
-
I mean it's in my room :P
-
oh wait i forgot you live there now x.x, I am so used to here where pretty much every school/college don't have in-school appartments/dormitory/whatever since maybe the early '50s. Mostly universities still does now
-
He went back home for spring break maybe..
-
idk, but i remember he often goes at home on sundays.
-
I went home to visit some friends who were home for spring break. I hadn't seen them since thanksgiving and much fun was had.
-
So yeah, due to a number of factors (finals and most importantly the omnimaga contest) I need to put off the release date till next September. Lots of progress has been made and this game is gonna be awesome though. Look forward to it!
Forward all complaints to Netham45.
-
lol ah well progress is good.
-
providing you won't ditch calcs (I was a bit worried last fall O.O) and that it eventually gets finished ^^
-
I just hope to see something from this, keep updating us. please :P
-
Could I make a suggestion regarding the map scrolling? I noticed that the map only scrolls when your character approaches a border. Wouldn't it look better to center the character sprite and have the map scroll underfoot? It would give the player a better view of the surroundings so they could ascertain the situation. For instance, if the character just moves along the screen borders, the player might run straight into enemies or obstacles without being aware of their presence; having the map scroll underfoot would make such surroundings more apparent.
-
Though I don't know the project, I would believe it's a cheaper form of preventing the tilemap from overrunning its boundaries, since the player would not be allowed to see the outer edges in this fashion. If the tilemap were to be centered on the character, you'd have to make a larger tilemap in the event the character wants to go toward the edge of the map, where the tilemapper would have to then start displaying things outside of its original boundary.
Not sure if that's what it is, but if I were coding something that needed reasonable speed with a smaller size, that's the way I'd do it.
-
yeah that's something I didn't notice at first, but I kinda like to at least be able to see where I am going ^^
-

Ah, that makes sense. Designing map-boundaries in Escheron was a pain for this reason, but I opted to do so anyway.
-
That's one of the reasons, another is for the purpose of puzzles, and not knowing exactly where enemies are standing as you progress through new areas.
-
So is this still alive-ish?
-
I hope it is, I haven't seen Speler post on forums for months, even thought he claims almost every month (via private chat) that he's gonna be active again soon. x.x
