Title: Silence 2 - resetted
Post by: Yeong on December 05, 2011, 07:47:40 am
Well, I decided to start silence 2 from the scratch. :D
This time, It'll include more Axe for speed purpose.

Thanks guys. I took a lot of time drawing that title screen on-calc. :P
Also, how do you guys think about text effects?

I know this is still reeeeeaaaaly early in  development, but it looks fantastic so far. Your graphic work looks superb!  Are you going to include a few cutscenes in game similar to what is shown in the opening?
Title: Re: Silence 2 - resetted
Post by: Yeong on December 05, 2011, 09:24:00 am
That's what I'm planning to and that's one of the reason that I restarted this project. ;D
Also, I still have all the source files from Silence 1 so game engine shouldn't be too hard to make.
The only things that will waste my time is drawing all the pics O.o
EDIT: Oh. BTW, you guys know that this is Point and Click games, right?

Yup, at least I do. Also may I ask how you do that text effect?

Yeah, I know. D:
That's the other reason that I restarted this project.
Somehow, it gave people error and wiped their calculator for some reason.

Now the new game screen!

Also, I used my old cursor routine so people who played silence before can get used to play silence 2 quickly. :D
(or just simply being lazy :P )

I think I remember seeing the first game in the serie and it seemed pretty nice. I'M glad there's a sequel. It reminds me of one of the game in last year's Cemetech contest.

Looks awsome, just like silence1! I can't wait to play this.

Have you also ever thought of combining contrast effects to that evaporating text and using contrast instaed of grayscale for the fade-in at the start? But anyway, it already looks awesome.

If anyone's interested, this is the concept/code of the evaporating stuffs.

And here is my attempt (we discussed on irc, it is ok that I post it). It evaporates the whole buffer (the beginning of each code is to prepare the buffer, to have something to evaporate ;)) and may be unoptimized :P

WARNING: It evaporates the whole buffer !!!

ClrDraw
Fix 5
Text(15,25,"TEST")
DispGraph
Pause 1800

.evaporate to get white
DrawInv
For(A,0,256)
.256 is too much but at least enough
For(B,0,768)
{L6+B}^^r->r1
rand->r2
r1 or r2->{L6+B}^^r
End
DrawInv
DispGraph
DrawInv
End

ClrDraw

Text(15,25,"TEST")
DrawInv
DispGraph
Pause 1800

.evaporate to get black
For(A,0,256)
.256 is too much but at least enough
For(B,0,768)
{L6+B}^^r->r1

Here's the test version if you want to try.
Run prgmSILENCE2.
2nd is to select, and mode+2nd is to quit. enjoy!
It's really short, btw.
Oh. Also, you need DCS7, and everything is archived.

What about making the whole thing in Axe, so users won't have to keep track of multiple programs?

You could use Fullrene (raises the limit to all of RAM) or make it an app (limit to all of archive).

If it is data that takes that much space, you can store them in an appvar and keep it in archive (the appvar must be created by another program)
But if the problem is not Data, I don't know...

OK, guys, so I have something to ask you guys :D

It will be grateful(you will get on the credits) if you...help me with some drawing pictures :D
It's taking me too long and I want to finish it by January so :D
Every time I ask something like this, I spam smiley face. :D

So, if you are willing to give me a hand, here's the scene that you can draw:

-Inside the Office building
-Cave
-Jail

Or you can help me optimize my routines (I'll post it tomorrow) since the routines are taking too much space (3~4k)

Thanks again.

What it does is it jumps to label according to expression.
So if I type Z-Test(A,01,02,03
it will go to lbl 01 if A is 0, lbl 02 if A is 1, etc

I am. :D
I want credits to be about 30~45 seconds unlike silence 1. (4 seconds?)

wow, I don't think I've been in any ones credits before... THANKS :) and I'll check those routines.

edit: ok so I got lazy and just put it into the Cemetech source coder, and it made these changes if your interested

thanks :D
That was the one that I wanted to optimize the most.

Erm... saintrunner? I think axe will throw error at getKey(15 .
Also, for TB(text thingy, third one must be blank (") because otherwise, it will show up some crazy letters.

I told u up above i just put them through the cemetech optimization thing, and thats what it said. Sorry for any mistakes with that

SourceCoder is for BASIC, not Axe, and it's not really optimizing—just stripping out unnecessary braces and quotes, which causes a whole host of problems in Axe. If you want to optimize Axe, you need to sit down and think the whole thing through.

Yeah, I figured that out after looking through some of them. I try and do some REAL optimizations later

Here's the test version if you want to try.
Run prgmSILENCE2.
2nd is to select, and mode+2nd is to quit. enjoy!
It's really short, btw.
Oh. Also, you need DCS7, and everything is archived.
I tried it(in jsTIfied 8D). It's indeed not very long, but it's pretty nice already.
I don't know if it was me, but when I changed to another tool, my cursor was always autmatically dragged to the left.

Anyway, I hope you haven't given up on this.

I actually like both sci-fi labs images, the first one reminded me of some Star Ocean teleporter rooms. :D

I haven't. It's just in pause. However, I might move from All-Axe to Basic/Axe mix just like Silence 1.

Thanks. :D

I might implement this in Silence 2.
Any comments? (e.g. some part looks awkward.)

Woah! That looks awesome and would definetely be a plus if you can implement it :)

yeah. If I do manage to implement it, I'll save a lot of bytes (b/c I won't need a lot of picture files anymore, but rather some sprites XD)

On behalf of aeTIos, I'll be posting storyline here. It's ok. It's the time before Silence 1. :)

Prologue(13 years before Silence 1)
Dan, who was one of the researchers for project Achilles, gets the suspicion of spilling information to 3rd party research group, and gets hunted down by certain group, led by chief researcher Mac. But the true motive of Mac is to eliminate any researchers that are not in his side and use the project for his own purpose. While Dan escapes the underground research lab, he finds the little girl who are getting bullied and called “failure,” since her development was deteriorating compared to others. Dan brings her out with him, free all the other children, and burn the entire lab. Once he gets out, he realizes that the girl whom he rescued was the daughter of his assassin friend, Natalie Pierce, who mysteriously disappeared. He decides to take revenge on Mac, who managed to survive, and raise Jane to be full-pledged assassin just like how her mother was.

13 years Later (Setting for Silence 1)

Jane grows up, who was now one of the top assassin of Dan. She gets into the romantic relationship (dating) the kind guy named Mickey. One day, when Jane and Mickey was in Mickey’s house for coffee, some men barges in, and shoots Jane with dart gun loaded with unknown substance. They try to take Jane, but Rickey attempts to stop them, giving Jane enough time to escape the scene. Jane, who knew she couldn’t escape the house, hides in Mickey’s closet and lose consciousness. Mickey gets shot by now furious men, resulting him to death. The group thinks that Jane escaped the house, and leaves the house, except one man…
