Title: Silence: Lost Memory
Post by: Yeong on August 21, 2012, 06:54:10 pm
Well, people. Here we go.... again XP

I took about 3 months just to sort out Silence's storyline completely. So far, I have plotted out the deep thought storyline until Silence 3. :) So, consider the other one I made beta version and consider this the real Silence 1 once it comes out (long way to go :P).

All right, so let me jot down some background info(more like prologue) about my new(?) storyline of Silence 1:

The year was 2049, when the world was brought into the verge of destruction because of the unending war between rebels and the dictator Magnus. For long time, there was a rumor about the secret experiment named "Project Rachel," which was about enhancing human's body to be the ultimate bio-weapon. Dictator Magnus was in search for the trace of such project, seeking to obtain such ultimate power. Once he found the trace, he began to secretly murder the scientists who were related to Project Rachel. Former researchers, fearing for their lives, has gone underground and started to form a rebellion against Dictator Magnus. Hence the war between dictator and rebels has begun...

So, anyway, here's the title screen I have designed so far ;D
Also, don't expect rapid progress with this since I am willing to take it slow to ensure I'm finished with this.

So, comment about title screen? :D

The title screen looks nice. Is this going to be an other point and click game?

Well, for some part, but I'm willing to mix in some other genre in place like boss fight.
QTE will be back, though. :D
Also, the progression of the game will be chapter based this time. Also, doing different stuff and exploring will unlock some sidequests.

Sounds cool Yeong. About the title screen, I'm not really sure what it is, but I don't really like it. :/ There's plenty of time to worry about that though, and the title screen really isn't that important. :)

Actually, same here :/ I think the "cartoony-looking" letters are what bothers me the most. I'll probably fix that XD. In fact, I forgot to add "New", "Load", etc. X.x

Great to see that you are working on another silence game :D.

Yeah. :D
BTW, this means I won't continue Silence 2 anymore(well, since Silence 1's storyline changed a lot, you can assume that Silence 2's did as well.)

it's always wonderful to see more z80 activity around here =).
what other details can you give us about the game. have you written any code yet?

Well, since I just finished to organized the huge story, not yet. :\
I probably have to finish some pictures before I get code going. Also, I'll have to find the way to fit entire level data into appvar. Once I get that done, the coding will go smoothly. Besides, I can always recycle my old codes if I have to XD

This looks really cool. :)

By the way, when I saw the title of this topic, I thought of Doctor Who.

It's not related to Doctor Who. XP
It's a point-and-click adventure game that quite goes like this:

are you trying to figure out some mystery?
and yes, if each "level" is a complete image, you are going to need a rather strong compression algorithm. you can definitely afford one, though, without any realtime requirements.
/me always recommends working out code before starting on cosmetic things.

Yes, you are solving some mystery.
Well, I do have some of the codes such as displaying pics off of appvars and stuff. Technically all I have to figure out is how to design the level data.

All right: Second try on the title screen. How does it looks now?

Much better, I like it. :)

So this is how the game play will go:
1. Adventure mode: you classic point-and-click game.
2. Stealth mode: basically you're playing MGS in top-down view. (I hope im good enough to implement this XD)
3. Boss battle mode: This will go somewhat like Megaman StarForce one. XP

Sounds nice. I'm glad Silence is revived. It kinda brings back some memories of when you first joined Omni too. :P

For graphics it would definitively be nice to see actual pics used, but try to keep them as small as possible so the game isn't too massive either. :P

So, this is the example of one room. :D

You'll realize that this is bit different from original Silence 1.
1. Yes, it's greyscale now ;D This is why I didn't wanted to go full point-and-click because greyscale pic takes 2 pictures X.x
2. You'll realize that there's no arrows present in this picture. New engine will have the cursor change to appropriate arrow if you can move to that direction. :D
3. Also, I'm changing the keys. instead of 1~5, I'll be using F1~F5. :D

Hmm, looks nice. As you guys should know, I'm a big fan of point-and-click games.

Today, I found a way to make the pictures even more smaller. :D
I think I could generate "screen" by putting some sprites. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. XP Some sprite will be used more than once so XD

so I made some progress with my new engine. :D
I'll post the screenshot later (idk if it worth it yet though)
I made a cursor routine and text box routine that recalls text from the appvar. Now all the text can be stored into appvar, which is crucial b/c I'm trying to fit whole thing into 1 app. :D

I tried to post a screenshot(showing greyscale stuffs and textbox) today, but for some reason, USB doesn't work with my calc O.O
That means I'll have to find my silverlink D:
Well, since this happened, I'll make some more progress and post the better screenshot later XD

Soooo...there any downloads yet????
Jk, take your time, it sounds promising! :D
Title: Re: Silence: Lost Memory
Post by: Yeong on September 13, 2012, 10:05:06 pm
There are no downloads yet because:
1) It's not even close to be playable (heck, I haven't made the levels yet :P)
2) Even if I did, I probably won't release it until I finish it (for the sake of not spoiling anything)
3) According to the storyline that I planned, this game will be somewhat long (even though it contains 4 chapters)

Wow, sounds like this is gonna be really good! You're putting a heck of a lot of effort into it :P Keep it up!!!! :)

Well, if you wanna have a clue what Silence is, you can download the one here: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/441/44188.html
What I'm doing is remaking this, but with a huge storyline change. So I think I'll call this version (^) the Beta XD

Cool, I never played the original Silence. Is it like Silence Hill? :P
EDIT: Point and click? Nice! Never played games like that before.

Never? Not even Myst? Man, that's a shame. :P
I personally only began playing myst max. 2 years ago.

Also, did you play the other Silence's already? I played the first one I believe and it was pretty much fun too. :)
