Slova progress
« on: February 23, 2013, 10:05:48 am »
Slova is pretty much done since no one has found any bugs or unusual difficulties.  So I just wanted to let you know why I haven't released it -- I'm teaching again, which has slowed down my progress with the Russian language pack.  (I know that at least two people want it, and I want it to be good rather than just "thrown together")  Also, I'm waiting for annoyingcalc's Japanese language pack.

Sorry, I didn't have much time to check new updates, I'll have to check the topic again in case I missed any beta to test when I have more time. It might be hard, though, since there are 2 people on me who want me to test their programs lately x.x

I'm teaching again

Teaching? What do you teach? How do you like it? I've been thinking about teaching a C/C++ class at the local community college here.

Hope you're able to find time to finish Slova. :)

If i'm not included in those two people, then three :)

Oh, no worries, there have been no new updates ever since my "news post" about Slova.  But I think it's pretty much done except for my language pack.

I teach English.  I'm living in Russia as a teacher, and it's fantastic!  But the classrooms and classroom management are definitely different from the US

Lol, I remember that you and Xeda want it ;D

Off-topic: Try to be careful when driving in Russia or even if someone drives you somewhere. I heard that there's basically no driving law in Russia and about 20 million of people die in car accidents everyday there. Well... maybe not THAT bad but I often heard that it made Quebec City roads look safe.

I'm actually making a small change to the game, in that word lists will be selected sequentially rather than randomly.  I should have done this before, because then people can go to a level with a "specific" word list

And you're right :)  Actually I usually take public transportation because I can't afford a car, but I certainly have to watch my step when walking

Cool, I hope you can find some down-time. This program has some really awesome potential.

Just as you said that I got some down-time ;D  I don't know when I will be finished, but I have 140 words left to add.

By the way, when a game automatically saves an application variable is created.  If you play using the appvar "RussianO", you should see an appvar "rUSSIANo."  But on my calculator, the appvars are invisible!  They're there, I'm just not seeing them in the Memory menu.  Does anyone else have this problem?

It could be that the first character needs to be a capital letter (or θ). At least the program menu might be that way, i'm not sure if it's the same for the memory menu... That's how a lot of fake RAM clearers used to work, changing the first letter of every program in the VAT so that going to the program menu would bring up nothing.

Yes, that is normal and for the reason chickendude gave. Basically, it is considered a hidden variable. I like the idea of changing the case of the letters. It is a good way of making a unique name :)

Oh, that makes sense!  I like it because then games can be saved without clogging the list of appvars.

So close!  I'm testing my appvar, then I need to make a correction to the manual "How to create language packs."  Also I need to fix a game bug.
