Title: Statues
Post by: epic7 on November 20, 2011, 05:53:14 pm
Statues is a puzzle game I'll begin making.

You are a person and your goal is to guide 2 statues to their destination. If you go up, the white statue will do what you do and go up. However, the black statue will go down. Once you guide the statues to their destination, you win!

Here's a screenie of the gameplay grid so far.  :w00t:

Just so it is recorded that I said it first, I'm good! lol it's all in the subconscious! I suggested it and your brain took the idea involuntarily! teamwork! and If you need any help, You know where to find me!

Moving screenies are good.
So this is like a mirrored movement game?

If you need any help, just pm me ok?! I'll also test it if you want! oh and Is robogun finished?
Title: Re: Statues
Post by: epic7 on November 21, 2011, 08:17:39 pm
Robogun is finished, but with bugs. I might make up some excuse for the bugs like the occasional invincible enemies are an "elite type" or something like that :P

well do the 'elite' type robo's ever become destroy-able? and could you send me the file! i'd love to play the most updated one!

I'll make a bomb or some thing to for sure just regenerate all the enemies including the powerful one. I'll post the latest robogun in its topic :D

I think I could give statues a level editor.

cool! I'm thinking of doing that with mario shotgun! But that might cause a problem with making the user think too hard lol! isn't it like a puzzle? so there is only one or two solutions, ...lot's of thinking...hmmm

Im failing at pxltests for the edge of the grid

For this kind of game, you might be better off using a tilemap.

Post by: epic7 on November 21, 2011, 09:00:13 pm
Maybe. The movement and stuff confuses me since the dimentions of the boxes are kinda wierd.

AHH, yeah I usually right down dimensions and locations, before I pxl-test. It helps my brain remember the stuff better, plus its faster.

What do you mean?  You can probably just use a mix of ClrDraw and PtOn to display irregular sprites.

Im failing at pxltests for the edge of the grid

Draw a double thick border around the outside, it will make pixeltesting easier. Just make it (the statue) look for the two barriers at once, and then it knows it is at an edge

I think a tilemap is the best. I may release a tool for tilemaps later this week if you are interested.

No, Im having problems making the sprites stop moving once they reach the end of the board.
I thought the boxes dimentions were 8x8 but I think they aren't, so my tests are screwed up

Actually, I just finished doing that right before you posted that! It doesnt work because I think my pxl tests are off.

Attached is source, bmp pic of the game grid, and ti pic of the grid

The the first y column of the sprite is empty so it starts on the second y column.

Okay. I will see what I can do... it will take a day or two for me to repost my fix

Okay, I fixed the wall collisions for you... here you go
Oh, and good luck with the statue collision, I don't think it will be very easy

Thanks! :D
You really had it, I just changed some numbers around and moved all of the A-- in the code that moves the character to a more efficient spot

Cool. Ill check that out once I can get to a computer.

One question that may cause you problems later.  If you move next to the statue that moves in reverse, does it move on top of you?
Title: Re: Statues
Post by: epic7 on November 23, 2011, 09:58:16 am
Well, it's possible to make them collide, but I'll make them not go on top of or go through each other

This is a very nice idea! :D +!
Title: Re: Statues
Post by: chattahippie on November 23, 2011, 10:11:29 am
You will have to do collision checks in a total of 8 times.
When you code  it, instead of checking for all eight possible collisions, only check the two in the direction you are going in

By the way, the collisions are on each side, and the two are right next to each other(11) or one space apart (1_1)

Do you think I should make level packs in appvars to add to the normal game in addition to the levels that will be on the game?

Also the blocks go through the wall in on the top left corner, but thats it. I'll look into that

Edit: Oh, thats because the square on that corner has different dimentions. /me changes grid

I'm not really feeling it with this project. I'll probably slowly work on this while mainly focusing on a bigger project.
