Could you give some more info on this project?

It is an ASCII (mostly) RPG written in so far 100% lib-free BASIC using 1337 code (do I sound like a n00b saying that?). The story line is really not in place yet. Rivereye is a working title till I can come up with a better one. BCTurk and I have been working on the story line. Right now, I am just releasing these working tests, one to find bugs early, and two, to give a sneak peak and added interest in the project

got some work done today. I put the little menu of the walking engine in a subprogram, and the speed seemed to jump up a tad. I am goining to add talking to people soon, then come the shops.

With the shops, I am thinking of a list of items you can pick from to buy

Due to a busy sceduale, I have made no coding progress, but have been running ideas through my head. I plan on taking out enemys you see and making enimies random. The next release, I plan on having a store in. Then, I think I may be ready to add in some story line, we shall see

I might not be here as often because I started reading The Da Vinci Code yesterday. good book ^^

alright, I have been working on the store, and things are seeing progress. My plans are that weapon, shiled, and armor shops sell up to 4 at each store, and when looking at weapons, it will tell you how it will affect your stats. What do you think.

Btw, If I get some good work done, I might be able to have a Friday preview release.

ok, question, when you buys a weapon/shield/armor, should I have it set up to where you sell your old one and buy the new one, or hold onto the old one. Btw, I have no plans for old stuff anyways.
Title: Status
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 20, 2006, 10:46:00 am
hmm, in my only RPGs that had weapons (Illusiat 11 and 12) and armors (Illusiat 11) the old armor was donated to the shop, and to buy an armor/weapon it had to be more powerful than your current one

ok, been doing some work on my RPG here (I know a shocker) and might have some stuff to show in the comming week(s). Right now, the weapon/shield/armor shop backend is almost done, and then some minor things will be added.

Currently how things are set up is that when you go to the shop and buy and a new item, you sell your old item also. The prices displayed are adjusted to show this. Also, in the shops, it shows your current stats and what your new stats will be with the new item. After I finish this one up, I will have to start on a general store (which shouldn't be too much problem, I can use a lot of the same backend). The one problem I have is where can I put the file for people to test it out.

I liked the store system at least its a good thing you let us know of what we are buying :)smile.gif in old ff games you didnt knew if the weapon you bought was stronger than what you had x.x so you ended up getting ripped often
Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 22, 2006, 10:00:00 am
yeah, I prefer to know what the weapon will do to my stats before I buy it. It does slow down the program some, but I think it was worth it.
Title: Status
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 22, 2006, 10:13:00 am
yeah, i think its a good tradeoff, its not that slow anyway
Title: Status
Post by: Halifax on October 22, 2006, 10:29:00 am
Yeah I played this game and I liked it. It moves at a reasonable speed while checking if your moving maps or into stores or NPC's which is pretty cool. I also liked the store system and the fighting although I could not use 3:items which im thinking is because you did not make it yet and also there were no spells which I'm also thinking you did not make yet, but yes this game was definetly very fun for a demo.
Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 22, 2006, 10:29:00 am
@xlibman: plus, some of the slowness came from the store being more dynamic (uses 99.9% the same code for all three stores, and knows which is which).

Thanks Killerplayer. Yeah, there are no items yet for battle use, also, I have turned off all the spells (as I have that system pretty much done and bug tested, but I can tell you how to turn them on if you really need to see them).

Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 22, 2006, 10:48:00 am
and still do. Don't worry though, once I leave demo phase and go into story line additions, enemys will be like the easy one.

Title: Status
Post by: Radical Pi on October 23, 2006, 08:58:00 am
The only problem I see is the battle damage formula. I didn't take too good a look at the code, but let's just say I was able to do negative (healing) damage in the "danger zone" of enemies.
Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 23, 2006, 11:49:00 am
that is odd. Being the forumula is something like round(attack*3/defense,0), the only way for you to deal negative damage is either the enemy has negative defense (non of which do), or you have negative attack (and again, shouldn't happen). Tell me what you did exactly, and I will see if I can replicate it.

Found it.
QuoteBegin-Me+ Rivereye Studios-->

Well...somehow I did...
One test later:

Repeatedly buy two different armors back and forth. You didn't stop it from lowering your attack stat every time.
I suggest you create another set of virtual stat variables that show the real stat with the change, not changing the actual stat, as that has... side effects...
Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 23, 2006, 12:48:00 pm
no armor should have an effect on your attack stats (I think it may be a bug I didn't pull out, but like I said)
Title: Status
Post by: Halifax on October 23, 2006, 01:14:00 pm
Yes I agree the stores were sort of confusing to me and when I bought a lower shield it wouldn't change it so the better shield made my stats better.

Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 24, 2006, 03:57:00 am
not entirely true. Lets say that I have the Leather Jacket, the selling price is 10 on it, the buying prics of the Vest is 15, so the cost of the vest to you is 5. (please note that these are test values and that things will probably change as I start programming in the storyline stuff.
Title: Status
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 24, 2006, 04:00:00 am
yeah i know the price is halved when seeling, but i meant what would happen if you sold a 300 gold armor to buy a 10 gold one?
Title: Status
Post by: rivereye on October 24, 2006, 04:02:00 am
actually, the price is not halved. Also, if the selling price is higher than the buying price, then the item is free for you (you do not make a profit on this).

if you dont want a garbage collecting/batteries trash fest i would recommend something that actually copy the prgm from archive then run the copy from ram and allow you to delete that copy, thus, I suggest Flash Gordon, Resource or xlib (altough i doubt you will want to waste 16 KB of archive memory just for an archive function)
