Title: Tank
Post by: kalan_vod on April 19, 2006, 02:06:00 pm
About:
This will be either a 83+SE/84 line game with AI that will be constantly moving, or it will be a dumbed down version where the 83+ can play it. The reason why is that it is fast now on the calcs (the screen shot doesn't do much justice), and with AI it would only slow it down. So I will have to decide to either make one of the two or both, so everyone can play it!

Things added:
-Several obstacles
-8 way movement
-8 way Shooting
-Giant environments, as big as your calcs memory
-Map editor

Planned:
-AI, which will have either 8 way movement or just four
-More obstacles
-Menu

These ideas are not set in stone, so if you have a suggestion let me know. I will be working on other projects along with this one, so do not expect this to be released soon.

It actually runs smoother/faster on calc, and is blazing fast on the 83+SE/84 line.

Hey nice you have diagonal movements now, look pretty cool I remember trying it a month ago, glad you resumed progress on it :)smile.gif

EDIT: sorry for taking that long to read this thread I went from the oldest to newest active topics in the list and there was so many to check so I went to sleep before even finishing reading half of them  :blink:blink.gif

Looks cool, nice graphics.

looks like I'll have to pull out my bros 84+ and get it new batteries.

Well it runs faster than that on a reg 83+, but it will be more injoyable on a faster calc. I haven't decided which I want to do or if both >.>

You should make it for both, even if it ends up SE/84 only I know ppl will still play on their 83+s, I remember ppl saying ROL3 was awesome on the reg 83+

Yeah, I had to edit your one with GS to work with my 83+ at the time it was released :Dbiggrin.gif.

hmm I dont understand what you mean, you mean you added grayscale to ROL3?

Reuben or something, I had to take out the detection of if it was a 83+SE or w/e just so I could play it on my 83+ :Dbiggrin.gif

I think it must have been xxr, I dont recall Reuben not running on the 83+, unless you mean you removed the whole collision detection

I thought Reuben was a non 83+ game, and I removed the checking of if it was a 83+ or not?

Post by: DJ Omnimaga on April 21, 2006, 01:25:00 pm
nope it never had checking, I tried all of them in PTI, even ROL3

One of xLIb xLIb revolution levels has SE checking though

yeah, i would love it if u could make an 83+ version!! as i get very frustated when many of the awesome games are for SEs only...

Yeah, that is why I think I will make two versions. Btw kevin, I think it was the contrast level that made it impossible to see when on a 83+ so I had taken out the contrast change..

In reuben you could change the default contrast on title screen with arrows <_<dry.gif

That actually looks really entertaining. o.o I wanna play it! :Dbiggrin.gif There definitely needs to be a z80 emulator for the 68k calcs.

Thinking of any multiplayer?

I have considered it, but unless the game is turn based it would be too slow even for the SE/84 line.

Would be cool but you would need to use zcom, which would be slow due to the asm command, unless tr1p1ea made it in xlib and still I dunno if it would be fast

Actually Timendus has made a faster linking program, it is able to link to all z80 (at least it will be, atm it's linked to 83's,84's and 73's). But still it might be possible if intergrated into xLIB.

This reminds me of the 68k game Tankies. I looked at your screenshots and it looks pretty fast to me, and when you said the screenshot doesn't do it justice, I can only imagine how fast it must be on real hardware.

Thanks Atari/Alex, I haven't added much to the game. I did work on some ideas and sprites though, but I will save that for a bigger update. Timendus is working on a linking routine that is very fast and looks promising, maybe it will get added to xLIB...If it does then this looks like it might have real time link play!

Update [08/06/06]:
Seems that I have been pretty tied up this summer, so not much progress has been made, but many things have been rethought.

Things added since last update:
-Optimizations, where it is an improvement in speed along with optimizations on the map editor (which shaved 300b)
-More tiles, some of which are power ups
-Implemented 1 new type of weapon, which is a stinger missile (that you can control, like in MGS)
-Added a level compression system, which compressed the level in the screen shot by 84%

Things to be added:
-Implement more weapons, and power ups
-Decide on a type of AI
-More obstacles
-Menu

I am debating to how I will set this game up, to how the game will flow. I am thinking of creating several types of this game, such as: 1 with AI, multi player, TBS (turn based strategy), multi player linked. If tr1p1ea is able to add CLAP (linking protocol by Timendus), I should be able to make a multi player version. I am pretty sure I will have at least 1 of these versions made, and at the moment it is looking like it will be a TBS version with AI + multi player via same calc. Also, if tr1p1ea adds a compression system I will remove my basic one (which takes about 10 seconds to load each map >.>)

nice to see progress kalan_vod. It would be cool with multiplayer with xlib, i think it would run pretty fast actually :)smile.gif , let me know if you need testers for next version btw ;)wink.gif

Which I thought about, but then I remembered catch 22 :Dbiggrin.gif, so I guess it would be similar?
