Title: The Ultimate Calculator
Post by: KermMartian on January 07, 2007, 10:29:00 am
The Ultimate Calculator is an uber-modded TI-83+ Black Edition, with the following stuff:

As far as what I'm making, I'm trying to cook up the most advanced and attractive and far-out calculator possible. Current plans:

Thanks, I do what I can.  I also hope to get some pix of the backlit screen in action tonight.

This reminds of the Richerfile (or something like that that started with an "R") that told ppl how to add backlight, overclock, etc. But this is like taking that to a whole new level.

Richfiles is some good stuff.  Nearly done with the painting; I'll be starting putting everything together soon.

This looks awesome.  :)smile.gif

I'd be interested in doing something like that; maybe you should write a tutorial.  ;)wink.gif

So needless to say, I didn't get the new pix up. :(sad.gif Among other things though, I'm modding up a mini PS/2 mouse to match the calculator, and I decided to redo the CSA slightly to make it brighter.

Edit:

Sunday, January 7, 2007

I finished up some various things this evening, rewired a new switch for the CSA mod into the battery compartment, then completed the tedious process of reassembling the calculator.  I managed to get keys from a spare calculator that were actually smaller than the keys from the one I was using, those they do stick or jam on the now slightly-narrowed key aperture walls.  Pix below.

Monday, January 8, 2007

This morning I tested the PS/2 port to ensure it was still functioning properly; both keyboards and mice seemed to work fine.  I found an old IBM mini PS/2 mouse lying around, sanded it down, and gave it two coats of my dark red glossy paint.  Next, I masked off the first of the two silver stripes and painted it.  The second stripe shall be added tomorrow.  Pix:

For the key lables, I'm considering getting a red and a silver pen and writing in silver on red areas and red on silver areas.  I'm also strongly considering varnishing the whole shebang - any suggestions on varnish?

This may be far out of the question, but have you considered getting in touch with ZiLog?  Putting a 20 mhz z80 in there would kick some serious @$$

i dont think zilog is still supported at all o.oblink.gif. this processor is from the late 1970's

what about a z800 can a TI 83+ calc handle that?? It's just an upgrade of the z80.

EDIT: Actually why don't we scratch the idea of putting a z800 in it and go straight to the CELL processor for some sick TI-83+ games!!!! :Ptongue.gif

Excellent idea, Halifax!  A CELL Processor would be even better.  The only problem (unless you have a couple uninterrupted weeks to work :)smile.gif ) is that it would take *alot* of reverse engineering with the calculator's hardware to get it to accept a non-z80 proc.  Great idea nontheless! XDsmiley.gif

if ti implemented this this would rocks, but problem is that it could break compatibility with older calcs :(sad.gif

what's your point? o.oblink.gif
Title: The Ultimate Calculator
Post by: Jon on January 18, 2007, 04:44:00 pm
His point is that non-z80 processors have an entirely different asm instruction set than what calcs have, forever ruining the chance of moving asm games to another processor.  As for basic, the high level language on a CELL processor is  Java, and a Java Basic emulator would run SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW.  But to get back on topic, great work on the calc kerm! :king:king2.gif

yea thats what I mean. this is why it would be very hard to port a 68k game to a z80 or vice versa. That's a good thing emulators exists tho

There are emu that run 68k stuff on z80? I thought it was the other way around.

Post by: DJ Omnimaga on January 19, 2007, 02:37:00 pm
no there is none but anyone could make one

only downsides about emu is that it run very slow since its a slow processor
