Title: The War of the Elements
Post by: pimathbrainiac on November 20, 2012, 03:55:53 pm
So, for the 2012 apocalypse contest, I'm making an RPG based on a story a friend of mine and I are making.

(not a full game, just a demo for now)

Still working on the engine, but I will have the files up as soon as I have something presentable.

In the words of Dr. Doofenshmirtz: BACKSTORY TIME!

Long ago, in a whole universe seperate from our own, The embodiments (queens) of the eight elements, Light, Water, Wind, Fire, Ice, Electricity, Earth, and Dark, lived in power. Their only enemy: the demon king, ruler of evil, on another planet, called the demon lands.

That all changed when Sarasa, the queen of dark, went to the demon lands to talk peace with the demon king. He made her, as well as her husband, Gigerro. evil using his mind tricks. She became Slizara. That's when the war started.

There are wormholes between their universe and ours, called enclaves, that transport thoughts and things from one universe to another. They were all under the possession of the Eight until the Demon King seized control of one 14 years ago. He then sent Gigerro as a scout to Earth, one of the Worlds which the Eight placed their power.

The queens, except for Sarasa/Slizara took part of their souls and put them into seven humans, who were infused for one reason, to kill the demon king when he invades Earth. The date of the invasion: December 21, 2012

You are one of those people. You are the leader. The infusion of Aura, queen of light.

edit: this is to be done in AXE

edit: this is now a team project

team members: aeTIos, and me (so far)

Edit: No longer for the contest... just for fun!

Yep, I thought that too. It's incredible how two years ago everyone was worried about it, and now, one month before the date, nobody cares. :P
Edit : Fourtiest post ! Omnomnomnom ! :D

Well, I need a bit of help... Is it possible to team up for this comp? (I need a good graphics person, someone to help with the engine, and an optimizer) I have a story, I have a plan, but I might not fit it all in in time by myself.

Axe (b/c I no know ASM).

Nothing fancy graphics-wise, maybe some grey scale, but most likely not. I want it to be good, but not really hard to read the code (I'm a grey scale n00b)

Plus, since this contest is going to be over in a few weeks, you might want to focus on making the game awesome with fewer graphics as opposed to less awesome and more graphics :D

Do you have any walking code done yet or some kind of map system?

Hehehe, that shall be some fun code, then >:D Regardless of whether or not you use a tilemap, I suggest keeping two other buffers, one for collision detection and the other for enemy detection. This way, when you are walking, all you need to do is pxl-Test( on each buffer the area you are occupying. If there is an ON pixel in the collision buffer, it means you cannot occupy that location, if there is one in the enemy buffer, you take damage. Here are some relevant posts:
