Title: TI-Freakware's Converter - TIFC for the 73, 82, 83, 83+/84+ and soon the 84+CSE!
Post by: tifreak on March 04, 2013, 07:13:05 am
I know this isn't a game, and probably won't receive too much attention, but I thought I'd post it here just the same.

TIFC is a conversion program I wrote ages ago based on some information I had gotten for school, and I had wanted to make it easier for me to access. Well, with the coming of the 84+CSE, I thought I should get it ready to be ported. Sadly, the code is lame, and it requires 4 programs and a picvar for it to work. The amount of conversions in it is sad, and I realized the best thing to do is just start from scratch, mostly. So, I have!

The above is what this program used to look like. And this is what it is going to look like across the board:

I've also mocked up some images for what it might look like on the 84+CSE. KermMartian was kind enough to screenshot an empty graphscreen and the letters onto it so I could know what I was going to do:

(http://tifreakware.net/tifreak8x/tifc/stiltemp2.2.gif) (http://tifreakware.net/tifreak8x/tifc/stilchoose2.2.gif)

Can't wait to get my hands on this calc! :D

As it stands right now, this is what the new version of the program is capable of doing:

Length
Area
Volume
Weight
Energy/Work
Speed
Pressure
Temperature
Time

Torque

Conversions currently implemented: 674

And more will be added from this list, found here: http://www.sutron.com/pdfs/Conversions&Calculations.pdf

So, any thoughts or passing remarks? Maybe some suggestions on more conversions I should add, and where I might find the equations to do so?

Not that I really neef this app, bur why not the 68k calcs? Aren't they one of Ti-Freakware's main calcs? :D
Looks cool by the way.

The 68ks have quite a list of conversions already built into the OS, so it's not really imperative that I make it available for them. Unless they aren't all that great? I can't say I've ever really used them.

Good program. :) It's a good thing that it gets ported to all models too since they're all still used often for maths. The CSE version looks nice as well.

Wait, is the 84pcse already out or how did you manage to make it O.o
And nice program btw :D

TIFreak already said that the screenshots are actually mockups.

And thanks, guys. I plan on making this version a hundred times superior to the previous version!

Woops/me runs
But yeah, that would be nice to see that program on the new calc, having quickley new programs for the enw calc would hopefully motivate many new people to join the community! :D

Well, the only thing I'll need to deal with is text placement, and the text colors. It shouldn't take me long once I get the calc to make the edits and have it ready, or at least that's what I'm hoping. I should have the rest of the calcs done with in the next week or two.

With some feedback I've gotten, the following will make it into the list of weight conversions thus far:

Carat (CD)
grams (g)
kilograms (kg)
Ounces (oz)
Pounds (lb)
Ton
Tonne

If anyone has any others that they think would be good to add to this list, please let me know and I'll see about doing so :) Thanks.

The above has been written in! I'll be doing volume and Length, next! Also updated the list at the top to show what all has been programmed in.

Just so you know, there's a difference between mass and weight. You should have categories for both.

The pdf file I had has the title as "Mass conversion Table ("Weight")" So I was going with just 'weight'. I could add Mass up in the title, as well.

I'm up to 178 conversions programmed into this thing so far, with at least 3 more categories to fill. This is one massive program. :<

How large is it so far? Also I wonder if the size would be similar on the 84+CSE or if it's smaller/larger (on the TI-86, for example, programs are larger than on the 85 before and after tokenizing, but I think lowercase letters on both calcs are 1 bytes large, instead of 2 on the 83+ series.)

The 84+CSE would be a bit larger, because for Text(, you will run into triple digits for coordinates, plus the use of colors and the like. As it stands right now, it's around 8kb v.v

elfprince was awesome and set me up with some code to utilize imaginary and real numbers to do some serious optimizing. The 178 conversions before took up over 8kb in size. Sadly, the TI-73 and TI-82 lack those functions, so, I simplified what he had done so it's more easily cross-compatible (and more easy for me to cheat by copy pasting code from one window to another in Tokens and just modifying code here and there to make it work on all calcs).

I still need to compress the Volume and Weight categories. I think I'll do that when I wake back up.

Edit:

Elfprince also suggested adding the speed of light as an available speed conversion. That puts the total conversions available to 188 currently :) Working on lengths now. Program is now below 4k, but that won't last long at all.

Edit2:

At the further suggestion of Elfprince, added 'stone' to weights, and am adding Time as another conversion category. This puts me to 202 conversions currently programmed in, working on length. Going to update the main post.

So I've added a lot to that front page with the list of conversions I can do. If the number is correct, I can do 576 conversions. Technically. Sorta. It's just different because the way it displays the data. I have to finish programming in the Times, then I can get started on Area and see about what else to do with the power/torque stuff.

If you look through that list and think something should be added somewhere, PLEASE feel free to tell me, I love making additions to this program, and want to make it as complete as possible :)

Just updated the first post's list of conversions this little beast does. If my count is accurate, this program now does 674 conversions.

I'm going to go through and verify my numbers are right. I'm fairly certain google went cheap with decimal places, so I've got other sources to check for those, see if I can't add to the precision. Once that is done, porting to other calcs and screenshots will be done :)

By the by, TIFC is sitting at just over 8kb!

Edit:

I went through and added in all the rest of the decimals to 4 categories and added UK Tons. This puts this to 690 conversions available.

Let me know if you find any bugs! If you see I need to add an conversion, please let me know!

(And yes, those screenshots are from their respective calcs, they really are that fast on calc. :)

Thanks! I hope someone finds one version of these program useful to them. I know it's not a game, so not many people are going to be flocking to it right away. :p A lot of hard work went into these.

Alright, I found and corrected a few bugs:

1) Pressures cursor movement was bad for anything not 84+CSE.

2) When on the second page of a category, and you returned to the main, it would deposit you onto the second page of the main (non-84+CSE issue)

3) Had 1 too many DelVars programmed in when exiting the program.

Updates at Cemetech are completed, so feel free to use the above download links.
