I used sprites for them. Two sprites per digit.

* Streetwalker did make one too, it was quite optimized except I was reading the sprites from archive. :P So it was slow until I changed it to preload in RAM.

I am working on a stand-alone level editor. If you get bored of the current level pack just make your own for others to enjoy. This is not part of my contest entry though.
