So a while back I created a version of the internet flash game Trapped. It used xLib to get good graphics, but was incredibly slow, badly coded, and humongous. Recently I created a new and improved version, using pure basic. It was faster, more detailed, had larger rooms, more items, and was smaller. I recently finished it, and I am in need of some beta testers, as it is a large-ish game. It does use CelticII for saving the data to an appvar, but other than that it is in pure Basic
Here is a screenshot of the game

And here is the link

Send all the programs to your calculator, then run INSTALL to create your game file. You can then delete INSTALL and run TRAPPED to play
Let me know what you think! (And if you find any bugs)

interesting, I like the way doors are unlocked and it seems to run at good speed with stuff moving around too (at least, based on the busy indicator speed, if slowed down, it does) and the ASCII chars are chosen well. The maps actually reminds me the 3rd dungeon in Zelda: Dark Link Quest. I assume it's a bit similar to the Trapped game on MaxCoderz but top down instead of side-scrolling and with real time moving enemies, right? (Trapped on maxCoderz was a clone of Block Dude but with much more feature, btw)
I'll try on emulator when I get some time to try to beat some levels ^^
-
i played this yesterday (before you posted this its weird) and I liked the first one better, because the objects and map and just the whole thing overall looks better than this version, and I don't see how this is "better" than the first. The rooms seem the same size to me, and the enemies in this one are just impossible to get past, the only pro is the speed.
Now I'm not trying to critisize you or your game, but it really doesn't seem much different except its in ASCII and thus faster.
Still, the coding in this version is much much better and smaller, I just guess I didn't notice how slow either was because I used an emulator, but if I had to pick I'd choose the first, but both are great games and anyone should get one or the other.
-
By the first one do you mean Trapped on MaxCoderz (by Jbshaler/Justin Shaler)? Because that one, as you can see in this post, was done by a different author and it was done in pure ASM. Else, I didn't knew Builderboy had 2 versions
-
No Builderboy made one with xlib.
-
oh I thought he didn't released the xLIB one x.x I guess I misread his post. I was certain he ditched it and only released the second version.
For enemies being impossible to avoid, my suggestion would be to make them only go horizontally or make them only move every 2 frames
-
Well, the point was that it is a puzzle to find out how to get past all of the enemies. You may be trying to get past an enemy without the right items to do it. Its more of a puzzle game than a battle game.
(And the maps are bigger, 16*8 instead of 12*8 )
If your stuck, I can help you move along if you want.
EDIT, i did release the xLib version, if you want to play it, it is availiable on TiBasic Developer Portal
-
ok thanks I'll try when I get some time too
-
Great work, I love this. The xLIB version was nice though
-
Thanks! I liked the xLib version too, I just felt it needed to be revamped with more puzzles and faster speed.
-
So if nobody has found any problems with this, I think I'll just go ahead and release it.
-
maybe make the person moove diagonal, or the monsters on horizontally, but other than that, its fine
-
Well, that would invalidate all the puzzles (and you would have to use something like the number pad to move diagonally), the reason I made the enemies able to move diagonally was so that they moved faster than you, and so you would be forced to use logic to defeat them.
But thanks anyway for the help, I just need to wright all the documentation and then release it :)
-
okey dokey artichokey! good luck!
-
Alright, I have finaly finished it and it is Pending in TiCalc as I speak ^^ I'll post a link when its finished.
-
Cool! You might want to upload here too (in download section under our ti and pc products->TI-83+) when it comes up in case ticalc is down sometimes
-
Alright, I uploaded it to the downloads section! ^^ And a fixed version of Shift without the horrible bug x.x
-
Cool I'm glad it's finally here ^^ I'll try asap! (as well as the new version of Shit)

ummmm... I found bug (considering i found some in Illusiat 13 and stuff, I should be bug finder.. jk)
When you get the golden key and come back to the starting map (the middle place where golden door is) after u unlock the upper right corner door, there's nothing u can do. if u press menu, the last item says DIE!!!!
Also, when i try to die, my life goes to negative number.
Also, you get ERR:Domain when u drop the bomb, and try to move to another room.
I'll try to upload the screenshot when i get my chance
-
Alright, nothing is a bug except the Error:Domain :)
Weird, I thought I fixed that D:
But Shhhhh! :D
-
so do u still need the screenshot for the ERROR:Domain?
or did u get that...
-
I fixed it, was a simple matter of switching 2 lines around ;D I'll upload the new version as soon as i get the time. In the meantime, don't do that! :P
-
Nice! and so i did beat the game... right? :D
-
Not until it tells you you do :P Belive me, you will know when you have beaten the game :)
-
oh... then i'll never beat the game.... I don't know what to do :P
