Title: Worms
Post by: aeTIos on June 06, 2011, 03:03:31 am
Hai, I got addicted to Worms: Reloaded and now I'm going to make worms for the 83+ family. In Axe. With AI. It'll be cool. Thoughts? 'Nuff said.

Ok but you should know that KinderMoumoute already began a Worms project. Maybe you could help him finish his project instead of beginning a new one.

He made it in Axe so the code is in Axe not in French. There are only two "words" in French: "Nb joueurs" which means "number of players".
The thing I'm afraid of is that you begin another Worms project and then, you discover another thing to do and you let it down. A long time after, you want to finish your project but you don't understand anything to your code anymore. And we have another unfinished Worms project.
This is why I suggered you to help him instead of beginnig a new one.

I think I can pull it off. I've been coding for ~8 months and got the bullet shooting system working already.

Well, it's not even just that, it's like the same thing if DJ was making ROL3 in 2004, and 2 months into development someone started making a game exactly like it but slightly faster.  While the person may not have been wanting to take the fame for making the game, he would take it.  The same applies here -- your intentions are very good, but I think the best option is to help kindermoumoute since he already has a lot done and I'm sure he would love the help.

Hum, I'll think about it.

It would always be fine if you exchanged worms for like robots or something ;)

The matter is not Robots:Armageddon or Worms:Armageddon. It's just that both of you have parts of the same game and you could make one good game instead of making two unfinished projects. I don't say that you won't finish yours but this happened so many times... And by working together, the game would be finished for sure (you'll be motivated each on by the other) and sooner.

Plop,
if you want I can give you and explain my code. But if you feel reasoned you can launch your own project, I just notice you that is a very long project.

PS : My worms is like Worms armageddon, because I do'nt really like the new worms reloaded, but why not, it could be fun. ;)

I'm still not sure about the working together thing. Its just hard, since you have to exchange data constantly and you can't work on the same file, so that gives a ton of source programs etc. etc. I also tend to work alone.

I think it's fine if you guys want to have separate projects. We'll just have two talented coders making great games ^^

When I started it, people got inspired and about 20 RPGs started O.O . No one finished any, though, except Phantasy Star Eternity End D: (They were new to BASIC)

Also Hayleia try to not discourage people from working on games by insisting so much like that. Mention the other project, but if the person decides to continue anyway, let him. After all, Kindermoumoute said he quitted his Worm game for a while and was not sure if he would finish it. In any case, if aeTIos makes his own, this might even convince Kindermoumoute to work harder on his or vice-versa. I had to rate your third post down, because it was against the forum rules. :/ Try to not get banned, please. :/

Oops sorry. But the post's score should be more visible (for example, a red score is negative, a green score is positive). I didn't even see that we could rate posts before you gave me a -1, and it also would guide people to read the most interesting posts and to avoid the posts rated -1 (like mine).
Spoiler For Spoiler:
But for my defense, I would say that the second rule includes "Criticism should be intended to make the person's program better in its current form" and I think this is what I've done, even if I recognize that my post can be discouraging.

Yeah I thought about that in the future, but the MOD we'reusing is currently a nigthmare to uninstall (must install all 25 other forum MODs first) so I would prefer waiting til I can do so before changing it. It is not guaranteed I would be able to do it either, since I do not know PHP well. Also the ratings should be bolded.
