Title: z80 Port of MLC?
Post by: kalan_vod on September 03, 2008, 01:35:16 pm
Great to see this around still, what is the current status on the z80 port? Is anyone working on it, and who is :P

Madskillz was working on the TI-83+ version but I haven't heard any news about it since the old forums closed. I think it's on hold. There was also a 86 version by TheStorm IIRC

Yeah, Madskillz is working on it (he recently told me that he was going to going to pick the project up again).

He is? O.o burntfuse already finished the TI-86 MLC interpreter (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/364/36427.html) years ago.  The TI-86 MLC 2 interpreter was never finished, though, but I think MLC 2 might be kind of dead right now (I'm not sure if there are any other interpreters that support it - MLC 68K doesn't and I don't think any Casio ones fully do - and the MLC 2 specifications are kind of incomplete anyway).

Madskillz was working on the 83+ version (as I said in my previous post in the other thread, I was supposed to work on it too but didn't get around to it), don't know how much progress he'd made yet though. It's great to hear that he'll get back to it again, gotta ask him about that sometime. For the 86, burntfuse was the first to make a fully working interpreter for any platform, and I don't know of anyone else working on an other 86 interpreter. MLC 2 wasn't complete in specifications yet, as bfr said, so I'm not sure if you could make an interpreter for it yet.

Sounds great that madskillz is still working on it (or soon will be), I really would love to see this finished or partially completed on the z80 line XD

yeah, would makes it much easier to do games for many platforms. Btw 86 version was still not really finished, it missed a whole lot of commands and was very limited and lagging behind the Casio version. Hopefully it can be improved more

That's true, Kevin, but at least it was functional. :)

I remember doing all my game coding for it with the PC interface. Never tried it on calculator, really.

I haven't noticed Madskillz around lately, posting and stuff, but then again that could just be me not noticing things again  :-\

Didn't know you guys were back up until I saw kevin posting on ticalc. This is great to hear! I have been talking with spencer he seemed really interested in me finishing MLC. That and bfr still working on his 68k version have got me picking up this project again. I got some stuff to work out before I can hit this project full on but I think I can get a few screenshots up here in september. The main interface of the shell is done with a whole lot of features that we had originally intended for the shell.

Heya Madskillz, nice to see you're still around in the TI community. I hope MLC eventually get finished for both z80 and 68k so we can make games for all platforms at once easier :)

Actually we only went back up a few weeks ago though, some people managed to find us before even making it to public though before September o.O. All others were pretty much only #omnimaga users
