Title: MC server : Cookiecraft
Post by: Keoni29 on April 26, 2014, 06:13:02 pm
(http://cookiecraft.eeems.me:81/minecraft/cookiecraft-logo.png)
I have my own server now, so I decided to put minecraft on it.
Specs:
Laptop
Dual core cpu @2,2GHz
4GB ram
320GB harddisk internal

Server info page: http://cookiecraft.eeems.me (http://cookiecraft.eeems.me:81/minecraft)
Minecraft server ip: cookiecraft.eeems.me

The website is also hosted on my server.

Nice! I'd ask about how you made it, as I tried without success, but that sounds weird, since there are too many personal servers as it is, to ask how "I can make my own" :< But, I'll visit it!

There are 4 people active on the server now :D

Seeing AeTIos' troubles staying connected, I assume that a 500 GB/second connection is required? :P

No, you just need a stable connection. aeTIos uses wireless internet.

I use wireless internet via a repeater that's in the wrong corner of the house. Occasionally I have an okay signal tho. (sometimes I can even play BF3 without having 1500 ping all the time)

We had a good day. A peak of 6 players online.

I installed some software that automatically restarts the minecraft server after a crash :)

I'll have to pay you a visit. Didn't play Minecraft in quite a while. O.O

I made a very long road today. Used about 1400 cobblestone, most of them in slab form. That means I have used almost 2800 blocks O.o

Can I submit a request for the server to be downgraded to 1.7.2? As far as I know, most of the changes between that and the current version are very minor additions, bug fixes, and Realms stuff. I ask because 1.7.9 is supported by very few mods, whereas 1.7.2 is supported by lots of mods. And I really like experience-improving mods, like ones that provide extra graphical features or more friendly interface/controls. I've got about 15 of them for 1.7.2 right now. :P

Are worlds, profiles and settings compatible between versions?
Title: Re: MC server : Cookiecraft
Post by: Runer112 on April 29, 2014, 06:29:06 pm
I can't say for sure, but I don't see why not. I'd definitely recommend backing up all current data before trying it, if you do.

Will try it when there are no players online. I have backups of the world.

You could also grab one of these backups and try it locally on your PC. ;)

No that would not work. I checked and the profiles are not compatible. Everyone would lose their xp and inventory.

Aww... Come on modders, catch up. 1.7.9 has been out for literally days!

We all lost our inventories once already, when you switched to offline mode, so I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad :P

Although, my inventory consists of a pickaxe and nothing else, at this point, so I wouldn't have that much to lose...

Minecraft updates and mods have never been friends. :P The first thing that's needed is MCP. After that, Forge needs to be ported and most mods are then a straight forward recompile, if at all needed.

I, however, have about 10 diamonds in my inventory, and I would prefer not to lose those.

Even if I would do something like this I would announce it days in advance so everyone has a chance to empty their inventory in a chest.

I have to report a bug/glitch on the server: when someone rejoins shortly after disconnecting for whatever reason, the server crashes. It just happened with Streetwalrus.

Just completely restart your client. Or something. :P

We got rid of some animals and now the server does not crash anymore. All problems should be resolved now.
The rules are now on the site. The website has a nice new background too.

I am having some issues with the reboot cronjobs. I scheduled a reboot at 3AM and the server is supposed to launch 5 minutes after, but I cannot get it to work. I disabled the scheduled reboot so the minecraft server won't go down for several hours.

We are adding new music tracks to the server resource pack. Does anyone know any good music for a minecraft server? We can have rock, reggae, dubstep, chiptune, ambient, metal. Anything goes.

Exclusively having minecraft-themed remakes of songs, like those done by CaptainSparklez, the Yogscast, and others, is a rather silly idea that comes to mind. Whether that's good silly or just silly silly, I don't know.

Well... we got these already:
Legend (full album) - Bob Marley
HALO - Soil
Potion shop - Zelda Ocarina of time

We want to offer a very broad range of genres.

I took down the resource pack because it is essentially copyright infringement. I want to make a new one that consists of free to use music. Some of my own music will be in it as well as any user submitted content.

Oh, copyrights, yeah. Well, you could use my brother's electronic song "The Fall", at 779music.bandcamp.com , freely.

You keep your inventory when you die.
Title: Re: MC server : Cookiecraft

Ooooh nice I like that. I hope you at least lose your XP because there needs to be a punishment for dying or else it will be too easy.

Aren't command blocks only useable by OPs?
Title: Re: MC server : Cookiecraft

Would it be possible to set up a communal sheep farm, at least, so we can have sheep of all 16 colours? Getting the dyes for some of the colours is more hassle than it's worth.
Title: Re: MC server : Cookiecraft
Post by: Keoni29 on May 11, 2014, 05:49:21 pm
Yes, only server operators can place and change commandblocks. I will set up warp point at central locations.

As for dyes: Which colors are hard to get? With the new flowers it should be easy enough to get them all.

May I be moved out of Adventure mode sometime?
Title: Re: MC server : Cookiecraft

Of course. Let me just fix this issue right away. We have automated server backups, so I don't really have to worry about vandalism anymore. I will change the default gamemode to Survival again!

The server moved to a new machine with 4GB ram and a dual core 2,2GHz cpu.
I also made a new logo:

+Added a Featured Screenshots section that showcases all the screenshots in the /screenshots directory.
*The server statistics are now in an iframe that reloads every 60 seconds. The whole page used to reload. Better for people with bandwidth limits.
*Did some design work and changed the font for <h> tags

Some of the same devs; not a sequel. Terraria was actually canceled for a while and Starbound started right around then.
