Nah I should be fine. I hardly ever use RSS feeds anyway, I don't really see the need for them on my side unless I would like to revive the defunct TI-News website or something
-
Well, I had this idea for about 2 years actually, since the TI-News.net website was discontinued. However, I was unsure about how to do it. It would have involved setting bots on my webspace that would check most TI websites that got news and post the news on the news website. It would either require someone with good website coding knowledge or if we used a SMF-style website (maybe it could be a sub-website from Omnimaga website?) a mod that enable bots grabbing news from other websites. IIRC it was quite hard to do with TI-News, as sometimes, websites design gets updated so the new code screwed up with the bots. RSS feeds fixed that, obviously, tho.
That said, if we did that, maybe it would be better to also include the latest posts of every TI forum, because with just news, even if we include international language websites, it would probably not be that active. Also, it would be best to disable commenting on such website, to encourage signing up on every other sites. I mean, it would kinda suck if people could comment on ticalc news elsewhere instead of the website it was posted on.

This sounds like a good idea. Rss feed would work. Unfortunatly uti doesn't have an rss feed that I can find.
Yeah, we would have to cut out commenting. Also we could post our own news...but only certain people can.
I'm really liking this idea.

"maybe it could be a sub-website from Omnimaga website?"
This way, nobody should have to pay for another host =]
I was thinking about something like this too a while ago =D
-
Well I do have multiple databases so it would probably be doable. But yeah, comes the issue of coding bots that can grab news from other websites.
-
I could get my code monkey TsukasaZX on that :p if he's up to it that is
-
Code monkey on union strike for more bananas and pomegranate juice D:<
Nah, kidding, I'll lend a hand to whatever y'alls need done :)
-
Lol, hold on I'll mail a few more :p
sweet! This looks like a feesable project :D can't wait to get it done!
-
Of course, keep in mind that Calcg.org alerady started some sort of TI-News again, though, if you check their front page at http://www.calcg.org. Now they have news from ticalc.org and brandonw.net. I am not sure if they would add every forum, though, considering they generally don't post as much news and when they do they're mostly website-related news rather than calc news
-
That's new... Yeah...I'd ratther do it because they don't have all the news.
-
topic split to separate discussion.
-
That's new... Yeah...I'd ratther do it because they don't have all the news.
Yeah true. Ticalc seems to do pretty good at covering news themselves, now, though, but still, all TI news in one place would be cool so people won't miss stuff
-
yeah, we should get started on this...maybe a topic for the next skype conference?
-
when is the next conference??
and yeah this soundls like a great idea it will definetily be awsome XD
-
There will be one friday and saturday but if anyone is up for one this evening I am in
-
Ya know i think the question shouldnt be when is the next conference, but when won;'t there be one?!? :P
-
back to topic (didn't think it would come out of my mouth, eh? :P )
What would be the name-thingy, IF there would be a name thingy, for the news-thingy?
Omnimaga-General-TI-News-Thingy sounds a bit crappy I guess
-
Idk, it would most likely be TI-News, like the two previous TI-News sites. The domain name would most likely be www.ti-news. something that is not squatted
In the '90s it was www.tinews.net, then in 2002 they forgot to renew the domain name I think or it got stolen, and they had to switch to www.tinews.com, then the site shut down in 2003 after the owner lost interest. Someone created a new site from scratch in 2004, but then lost interest in 2007 and decided to drop it, so it shutted down eventually. At this point it was www.ti-news.net
To be fair, though, I kinda wish Ticalc would do it themselves, though, kinda in the same way Calcg.org did, but with every active site and forums, because ticalc.org is the calc site that gets the highest amount of traffic, so it would have much faster success than on calcg, Omni, UTI or an external site. But the issue is that ticalc.org website is extremly old, so I am not sure if it would be easy to implement such thing.

hmm
dunno either x.x
-
what about a wap version?
D:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=624
Mhmm this is strange, this mod says it's no longer updated, yet almost everyday the author posts in its SMF topic and there was even a new update released today with bug fixes. Could it be a SMF site glitch causing this "use at own risk" message to happen?
-
Or he has started to update it again, and hasn't said anything to the people who are in charge?
Which reminds me, are we still going to do this?
-
personnaly i would love to do this still
but i have no clue how :/
-
or he changed a link or something, but didn't adjust the feed thingy so it no longer picks up any news x:
-
Maybe there is a similar mod around that is continued?
www.ti-news.net: This site has now text about poker... :(
I wish ticalc could be redone flawlessly someday... That could allow new possibilities.
-
I think the author of that bot mod stopped working on it and discontinued it, but the SMF website probably have no support for when someone decides to revive a project so the outdated warning remains regardless of if the mod is updated or not.
