So I'm looking into getting some decent web hosting for ClrHome. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as relatively inexpensive web hosting services that can take a small site or two (or three)? There are plenty of reviews online but I thought I'd see if anyone has personal experiences.
Some things I'd need, in case it's relevant:- Apache/PHP backend
- FTP access
- Good bandwidth and CPU stuff
- Cron jobs
- Email services
- Unlimited subdomains
I was going to go for HostGator because it looked nice for $3.95 but apparently that only works if you buy three years at a time, which I'm unable/unwilling to do at the moment. (And when I tried to call them for particulars on features provided they told me to hold for 30 minutes :P)

Do you think you can do it on withg?

Withg could possibly do the job, else there's Sorunome's server. Otherwise, there is 1and1 or Surpasshosting which can work OK for small traffic, but I think 1and1 pricing got higher over the years and they keep calling you to offer services.

If you have a small budget go with ubiquity cloud. Same thing omnimaga uses for there host
https://www.ubiquityhosting.com
they are still in the middle of start up so things are slowly changing but for the better!
there pricing is also really fair

Plus the co-founder and CIO, Brett Guarnieri is on our IRC channel (BrettN on efnet) if you have questions, and their support is awesome.

Wait, didn't Ubiquity start a few years ago (2008-09) as Ubiquity Servers or were those a different company?

Ah ok. Because they probably truly improved I think since then, management-wise. Back in Early 2009, I had to setup a ban on *!*@*ubiquityserver.net because of the massive wave of spambot registration attempts that came from there, and I doubt you would have switched to Ubiquity if that was still the case (not to mention right now they run pretty fast in general). >.<

From what I understand, when they were mentioned on a site about good VPS providers they got a bunch of fraud registrations. They are doing much better now though.

Ah I see, that might explain it. They might just not have checked much early on due to lack of much staff. I just remember that some hosts did things such as running spam relays, in which case their reputation was usually ruined and they eventually died. Itmom, which hosted calc.org for years, was a prime example, and that was not all: They also took 1 week to reply for support O.O.

From what I saw of the MC testing on IRC, Ubiquity's performance seems to be awesome for the price.

Wanted to suggest this too, lol, seems like many omni members are getting VPS's from them :P

As always, you are always welcome at withgusto! :) We're moving stuff right now, so there might be a delay, but otherwise I'm happy to set you up! :D
(aka: my verbal commitment from yesterday still stands!)
