Well I found one on level 24
see screenie below
another glitch when I exit portal the cursor is on the bottom of my screen
-
I've also found a more pressing one that crashes the game in level 17 or so. I'm unable to replicate it, but shooting a portal caused another level to load that was filled with random RLE junk.
-
Ah good catch, I had thought that it was safe to shoot portals at the top of the screen but it looks like I will have to put a check in there. Leafy where were you shooting the portal in level 17? If it was up the elevator shaft it might be caused by the same bug that annoyincalc found, since behavior is likely going to be undefined as the portal beam is rampaging through memory.
-
If you place portal(s) and you go through a "person can move through but portal not" line, all portals disappear
-
I think that is intentional, stevon8ter (at least it seemed intentional).
-
That isnt a glitch, in portal they are imancipation grills
-
Yes that is intentional game design
-
Ooooh ok sorry xp
Then idk how to do lvl 20 lol
-
I can post a screenshot hang on
EDIT nvm sorry my computer doesnt have a numper keypad and it is very hard to controll
here
put 2 portals 1 before the dip one after,
keep jumping in to both untill you are high enough to get onto the platforms
sorry if this is confusing
-
Nvm got it
Edit: stuck at 21 xD
-
In level 24 you can shoot all the way up more than the sealing and then suddenly wired lines appear on the screen.
-
Ok so the glitch i found: after level 24 (if you shoot on the right place up, a portal will appear in the left wall, if i go to it, all levels are screwed up
When i left the game, my ram cleared...
Can't duplicate it :o
And now after every bug in lvl 24 the lvls get screwed
And now i have to restart from 1 cause levels cleared... :o
-
i had a wired bug with a custom made level but i accedently deleted it, the bug was something with deleting the lower row and then suddenly the player sank into the bottom. Maybe it was also just because the level pack was in archive?

After my first try with lvl 24 lvl 25 i sank through the bottom, cause my maps were screwed
-
On Level 26, press up then 9.
-
Umm this is a pressing one.
Here is what I did:
Went into portal level maker (with zstart run from homescrene)
OS 2.53 MP (in classic)
New level pack named Boobies. (yes i am immature)
Went into level one and I don't think I changed anything.
I exited that, and then exited all together.
My screen turned bright blue. I made sure to remove my batteries quickly of course.
I don't know if it was portal editor or not, but i figure its good to know its a possibility.
-
Happy were you using the editor released in the game or the one I released a week or two ago?
-
*facepalm* probably...
-
Yeah the old editor had some small issues that were causing memory corruption, let me know if you have any issues on the new version!
-
Yeah, the Lvl 24 portal glitch... When do you think you can fix it?
-
Soon, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal, just don't go shooting portals up at the roof :P
-
so i wasn't able to replicate it but on my calc, level 24 after you shoot a portal up a couple times and you may get stuck in the ground. restart, and went to this weird place with symbols everywhere. shot portals in random directions and went to another weird place where i was standing on the slabs that you can't go through but portals can, and it was all glitched out. i touched the ground, it froze, and cleared ram. :D
there are other glitches in that same room where you can end the level early. sorry no screenies, my calc doesn't like my computer and won't give it portalpk
-
Yeah that level in particular has been reported several times for that glitch, a new version will be uploaded soon :)
-
Ok builderboy, i don't know if it's on purpose but i have it every time...
In the level where the elevator breaks... You get a dialog... You can do next sentence with [2nd] but on a given moment if i press it, it doesn't do next but turns on the [2nd] lock
And i can also turn on [alpha] lock...
And then i can skip it with [enter] and the next one is skipable with [2nd] and then the one after that it's the same story... I can only do it 2times in that dialog (sorry no screenie)

That happens with me too.
-
I got that as well. I should have tested if I could press [2nd][ON] >.>
-
I'll test it...
Edit: nop, everything else then [2nd] or [alpha] does the next part... Even if [2nd] is already selected
-
Oh yeah, I just realized I use getkeyr for waiting for a keypress, and that also adds in the 2nd and Alpha keys as modifiers D:
-
But why does it go the one moment and the 2nd moment it doesn't work?
-
I got three bug reports! Two are duplicatable, one isn't
One of the duplicateables will crach the game and result in a ram clear.
First the not-duplicatable (i think it is a axe bug):
In level 25 my calc screen randomly turned off after shooting some protals around so i hit the on button, it went back on and there was then with shooting up the same bug as in level 24. I also sank into the ground. When i exited to main menu only levels 1-10 were selectable to play. I exected the game and it froze when saving and i had to pull the batteries.
Ok, next is a duplicated one: Make a level with tons of movable elements like boxes and gates, not all will render then when playing and it will be buggy and when going into next level it will be random (assuming your campaign has only one level), then if you exit the game it'll freeze again on saving -> crach.
And last i can make the box in level 25 disappear, will post a screenie soon :D
-
The first bug probably is just leftover from level 24 being silly. If you can reproduce the bug after starting level 25 directly without going through level 24 make sure to let me know.
The second bug is with the level editor, not Portal. Portal has a certain max number of objects it can support, and the editor doesn't respect this value. There are plenty of ways using the editor to make the game messed up or crash though, so my best answer for right now is to not do that :P
-
then modify the editor :P
-
There are a large number of things that you can do to create a buggy level, and I am already near the execution limit in terms of size. Until I get a large amount of free time to optimize the editor significantly, there really isn't much I can do. I definitely don't want to make it an app, as that would be wasting 8K of extra space.
-
Ok, made now scrienies, and i forgot to report another bug: in that different dialog sometimes you can't hit 2nd to contine:
and now the one where the box vanishs:
-
That level 24 glitch is actually pretty bad. I did it again, and upon exiting portal, I got some weird symbols on the screen, and couldn’t use it or even turn it off. I took all the batteries out, put them in again, and it still was frozen.
Anyway, I left the batteries out while I was at school today and it worked again, but that glitch is pretty bad.
-
Yeah that's the main glitch he has to work out of it... Beside that glitch, there are only a few non-bothering glitches so i guess he's mainly focussing on removing the lvl 24 glitch (maybe just place a roof on it builderboy? So they can't shoot out of the level?)
-
If he puts a roof over it, that will make the level super easy XD (I still haven't gotten past it o.o)
-
Me neither, but if he puts a "you can't shoot a portal here" roof over it...?
-
Not if he makes the roof non portal blocks
-
New glitch, that is sort of seriousish; sometimes upon starting the level you can hit downleft portal and a portal will appear on the left side of the block you're standing on, facing the edge of the screen. Warping into this portal wraps you into the rightmost column of the level, allowing you to just skip to the next level hehe. At work atm so no screenie, but it's easy to duplicate. Try it on level 19. It's probably caused by the portal code note bothering to check for shooting offscreen or something (?)
-
^ Darn. I don't want this fixed. thats how I beat it :P
-
Wish this glitch worked for level 24...
-
I got more now random screens turning off and entering random levels then, but when exiting it didn't crash at all.
-
I don’t know if anyone else found this, but at the end of most levels, if you shoot up, you get a glitch similar to the level 24 glitch, except what happens after it is pretty cool. I think it displays all the code for game, but it looks like that matrix thing you get after clearing a bunch of numbers, but with less work and for much longer.
-
Don't worry, it's not the code for the game :P It's probably just converting a bunch of junk data to tokens.
-
idk why and how, but lvl 26 - I dropped the cube through a portal to the button. Then my calc went blank. I pressed on and everything seemed normal again, but when I finished the level, weird things happened. The first line of text was random stuff. Then it behaved as if I had completed the last level, with all that jazz, and I went back to the main menu.
No after effects noticed so far, and everything seems normal, but I'd like that to be reported. zStart and Omnicalc and DoorsCS installed (yes, I know DCS screws zStart up).
-
FINALLY, someone recreated this!!!!!! My friend found this, but couldn't replicate it
-
Found a bug, if you create a level pack with 38 (or any number, I have not tried >38 yet) levels, then complete it every level in the regular game up to that level will be accessable, even if you have not beat the game yet.
-
Bump:
Not sure how many of these bugs have been reported, but here are the ones I have found.
There are a few that involve multiple key presses:
up + right + 6 = jump, right, portal in the 9 direction
up + right + 4 = jump, right, portal in the 7 direction
up + left + 7 or 1 = jump, left, portal in the 4 direction
up + left + 9 or 3 = jump, left, portal in the 6 direction
up + left + 8 or 2 = jump, left, no portal shot
you can't change the fast/slow portal while any other key is pressed
Simple glitches:
When portal shot through top of screen, it appears as a solid line to the right, It also crashes it on exit
If you drop a box on where the lift is on the right, it is eaten by the lift...
If you drop a box in the left where the elevator is, you can't pick it up again.
If you jump to jump on a block, to the right or to the left, with a block not right above your head, but one above that, you can't make it onto the block you want to get on.
You can't place a portal on blocks above a box dropper.
I you are walking through a portal with a box, and before it draws the box on the other side while your holding it, and you drop it, that box is gone...
Level editing glitches:
Fortunately, none in the editor itself.
For each individual level:
>6 blocks doesn't work *
>10 buttons cause crash on exit *
>29 buttons cause ingame crash *
You can get stuck in any one block wide column.
If you put a portal on the floor in a one block tall area, you can't get out of it there.
If you put an energy ball emitter on the right hand wall, the energy ball travels diagonally.
If you shoot a portal up or down on the blocks above and below you when you first start the level, it will sometimes glitch, placing the portal facing out of the calc screen on the left hand wall.
Couple other things you might want to add, that are minor annoyances:
In your own pack, text between levels Make it so you can go to specific levels in the pack, like on the main one.
Edit: Also, because of a few crashes because of bugs, I created this program. It also has a small help section for editing levels. (Requires DCS7) Just make sure there is something stored in str1 before executing.

One other bug, you can get your head stuck in the ceiling... Screen captures coming later.
-
Wow... That is a lot of bugs, I don't think I noticed any of those when I played.

Well, You haven't played as much as I have. I can beat the entire game (all 38 levels) without flying in almost under 10 minutes. (its like 11 min something... can't remember now).
You probably haven't made as many levels as I have either...
I have seen pretty much all the bugs possible...
A lot of the less hazardous "bugs" (I argue they aren't "bugs" because they don't affect the calculator in a way other than normal, my friend calls them "unintended game mechanics") I have used in levels... You'll have to see my packs to see what I'm talking about. I still haven't figured out a good use of the head stuck bug :P

Screencaps here :P Kinda humorous.

As far as I can tell, It dosen't matter what blocks it is, you can get your head stuck in anything solid that doesn't kill you.
-
LOL is it just temporary or do you get stuck indefinitely ?

Just untell you stop holding [alpha]...

If those are not fixed, someone could almost make a set of levels that requires abusing the game glitches in every way possible like those Kaizoo Mario World level. :P
-
That would be quite awesome actually. :P
-
Haha XD that would be so cool.

I have use some of the smaller bugs, ones that don't crash the calculator in some of my packs...
There is a glitch where if you shoot a portal through the ceiling in the left 1/3 of the room, or something like that, you can teleport through anything to the elevator...
I would also use the glitch where placing a portal emitter on the right hand side of the screen making the pellet travel in a diagonal path...
The problem is that there aren't many bugs that don't crash the calculator in-game or on exit.

Spam alpha to fly (in a possibly old version).
My friend got a version 1 week before me on a TI-84+SE and the glitch didn't work on my 83+.
I'm not sure if this is fixed

Flying is not a glitch. You earn it by completing all the levels included in the game itself.
-
Oh... That explains it. Thanks.
That explains how y friend got it.
-
Oh lol I didn't know about that.
-
My friend was bragging to me about it and it didn't work on mine so I thought it was a glitch
-
I thought it was on all the time, as I only found it after beating the game. Hmm.
-
That's an interesting way to increase the game replay value :P
-
And now I try to get the flying feature :P
(and got stuck on 38)
