BASIC color glitch
« on: January 16, 2011, 02:12:42 pm »
I found a glitch with colors:

Green Locate 1,1,"A¤", for example, will display the ¤ in black or other colors. If you add another ¤, it displays the right color. Seems like colors aren't handled well by special characters ???

Apparently the Casio interpreter is filled with bugs and one common one is how sometimes doing Locate 1,1,"HI instead of Locate 1,1,"HI" will not work and other times it will. On that point it kinda reminds me of Axe Parser :P

I was amazed that all these characters were useable in BASIC, though. O.O

See the video capture of the bug in action below by the way: (I didn't use the screen capture program and camstudio because the screen capture program doesn't capture when the calc is busy)

DJ, you really shouldn't turn videos into gifs... :P
gifs are almost never used for this purpose outside the community of monochrome calculators.

Why is it so much a problem? I did not feel like spending additional minutes of my time to convert the video to a CODEC most people can use, only to find out the other half cannot open it, or having to upload the vid on Youtube. Besides, it's nice to have the file attached at the bottom of the post without having to click anything.

If it's only a few seconds long, gifs probably are better than videos.

*Sigh*
can we keep this on topic? The topic is about what the big thing might be, NOT SEX

I was mostly thinking about the quality. gifs are great at monochrome, but with more colors and higher framrates, quality might take a slight drop... Of course, I can understand if you think it's more convenient - I agree that viewing it directly in the topic and the easier uploading is a pretty large advantage. I think I'm just a bit used to non-gifs from the days before I started calc programming.

It depends, some calc games screenshots are about 5 minutes long too. It's just that I do not see the need to fill my Youtube account with such simple videos only about a calc bug that none of my subscribers want to get notified of nor go through the hassle of dealing with codecs (there are even people that cannot open uncompressed videos), so gif was a better option for now. All I did was Export to GIF in virtual Dub. Considering the small resolution it's not like the color quality dropped so much. I saw worse with actual calc screenshots before.

EDIT: Update on this: it seems like the bug occurs with special chars and also with special chars, another bug causes them to not show up if displayed in the right part of the screen and will even cause other stuff to glitch constantly. In other words, forget about fancy looking ASCII graphics: you're stuck with alpha-numerical characters for now. As soon as the calc is no longer busy (such as the Input command or exiting the program completely), stuff appears to display fine again.

Anybody knows how to contact Casio about this? This is kinda a serious bug IMHO. X.x

I would just use the contact form on their website, explain the glitch, and also give them a link to your animated GIF.

And where was that contact form located anyway? I spent about 30 minutes searching for it earlier, to no avail... did they remove it?

EDIT: Nvm I found it, Casio got 3 websites it seems. X.x
