Awesome games
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:30:02 am »
A list of the best games of all time, starting from the best.

  • Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Simply the best game ever made. It has the story, reasonable graphics, almost limitless re-playability, and a short guy with a fairy.
  • Doom: If you don't recognize the name, then you can't be helped.
  • Super Mario World: Come on, any game that has plumbers who eat mushrooms and fight deadly turtles with flaming flowers and hallucinogenic stars is awesome.
  • Tetris: It's been ported to more platforms than any other game in history. It's also the game with the longest prison sentence for playing, after Faiz Chopdat was jailed for 4 months as a result of playing the game on a plane.
  • Ms. Pac-man: This game managed to pretty much launch the gaming industry. I couldn't even talk about the Halo without mentioning Ms. Pac-man twice!
  • Pokemon Red & Blue: 256 Pokemon, two rival trainers, one epic quest. Gotta catch 'em all!
  • Resident Evil Franchise: While Resident Evil 4 is probably the best, all of them are good enough that you can play them for hours non-stop. I did that once with a friend at his birthday party. The fact that I even remember the game when I consistently forget the date of my own birthday should tell you something.
  • The Game. Look up at the URL. Now look back at this text. Don't tell me you didn't expect it.
  • Final Fantasy: No one can agree on which one is their favorite, so they're all up here.
  • Minecraft: It's such a unique variation on the sandbox genre that I think we'll be seeing many more games like it in the future. Who knew graphics even more pixelated than Ms. Pac-man could be so fun?
  • Tony Hawk: Not my favorite, but everyone else seemed to love it when it came out.
  • The Halo Franchise: This is one of the most talked about franchises in history (After Mario, Zelda, Pac-man, Tetris, ...,etc), so that's pretty much why it's up here. The graphics and gameplay are decent compared to Pac-man, but they haven't managed to port it to the important platforms like calculators yet.
  • Goldeneye 007: Personally, I never liked this game much because of the odd controls, but a lot of other people apparently do.
  • Need For Speed Franchise: While these may not have been the first racing games or the best, they're still the games everyone thinks of with regards to racing. Just look at the fact that there were several movies made under the title.
  • Mortal Kombat: You can still buy the arcade versions of this...
  • World of Warcraft: Yeah, I don't like it either, but any game that can inspire half of the reactions from being guild kicked on Youtube is pretty influential.
  • Soul Caliber: Never played it, but it's supposedly pretty good.
  • Dragon Warrior franchise: It has "Dragon" in the name.

Some of my other favorites are the Rage Racer/Ridge Racer series (especially the 7th on the ps3, four years and still fun to play) and Ratchet and Clank series.

I kind of like Ratchet and Clank better tho...it's not every day you can run around smashing things up with a 3-foot long wrench ;D

Trackmania
Super Meat Boy
I Wanna Be the Guy
The Orange Box (Half life 2, Portal, etc.)
Half life 1
Halo 3 and Reach
Doom/Quake
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 (Really amazing quality given the cruddy graphics the Wii has)

I think FF has been going downhill ever since 7/8, but that's IMHO
In-progress: Graviter (...)

I come from an obscure corner of the internet where everyone agrees that Majora's Mask is better. :)

But of course, OoT is pretty awesome too.

what, no cave story?!!!
no blaster master?!!!
no mike tyson's punch out?!!!

make sure to include the original super smash bros as well.
also, i only seem to recall there being 151 pokemans in red and blue (unless you're counting the empty spaces in the pokemon data).

You left out Chrono Trigger.  :'(
Chrono Trigger is probably the best RPG I've ever played. The graphics and music are beautiful, especially considering it was a SNES game, it had a gripping story and fantastic characters.

Final Fantasy: No one can agree on which one is their favorite, so they're all up here.
FF6 is the best. Anyone I've convinced to play it has agreed.

Spoiler For Projects:

My projects haven't been worked on in a while, so they're all on hiatus for the time being. I do hope to eventually return to them in some form or another...

Spoiler For Pokemon TI:
Axe port of Pokemon Red/Blue to the 83+/84+ family. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia:
My big personal project, an original RPG about dimensional travel and a few heroes tasked with saving the world.
Coding-wise, on hold, but I am re-working the story.

Spoiler For Finale's Super Insane Tunnel Pack of Doom:
I will be combining Blur and Collision Course into a single gamepack. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia Origins: Sky's Story:
Prequel to Nostalgia. On hold, especially while the story is re-worked.

I say the best zelda game was perhaps actually Zelda III: a link to the past.  Most zelda games were actually influenced by that one, (and so is TaNF, because I liked ALTTP so much)

Quote
Pokemon Red & Blue: 151 non-glitch Pokemon, two rival trainers, one epic quest. Gotta catch 'em all!

I say all final fantasy titles with a number at or below VI were classics.

Tony hawk underground was my favorite tony hawk game ever.  Very addicting on gamecube where you could build your own large skateparks :)

Why isn't Starcraft in the list? ??? It was one of the most successful game of all time and considered as the best strategy game ever, so much that even after 13 years, there are still 20000-30000 people connected on Battle.net at once and a thousand on iCCup, and the game received patches until 2009.

Also for FF, my favorite is the 6th one also, but some ppl IRL prefered the 4th one because 6 was too easy and some other people prefered the 7th one due to the materia system and many side quests compared to previous ones.

the mario RPGs for the DS(Partners in Time and Bowser's inside story)
they have a semi-linear plot(in both, you can go back to areas in which you were before with new abilities to unlock stuff), some bonus stuff, and an interesting plot. This is what I'd reccomend to anyone with a DS

Oh wow I always forget to try that last one. It seemed awesome. I don't think Partners in time is sold over here, though, unless it just came out recently. The only Mario RPG I tried was the Super Nintendo one and it was pretty great.

Pokemon Gold and Silver, with ~250 pokemon, are widely regarded as the best pokemon games to date (although I can't speak for Black and White yet)

I agree with that -- they're so damn long and hard!  ..which means to me they're fun ;)

Why does no one ever mention Crystal? In my opinion, Crystal was the best of the three, and still is the best Pokemon game in my opinion. (Though White comes really close.)
