Something I'd like to see on iOS
« on: February 11, 2013, 07:12:45 pm »
I recently jailbroke my iPod, and I've been having too much fun with all the little interface tweaks available in Cydia. One thing I'd really like to see would be a Windows-like desktop: being able to put icons on your desktop wherever you want, folders are unlimited in size, there's a start menu and task bar, all that wonderful stuff. Are there any packages available for doing this (or something like it)?

I know that Gridlock and Iconoclasm offer abilities to move around springboard icons, and Infinifolders allows you to have unlimited folder sizes but as far as a startmenu/taskbar I don't really know. A touch screen device doesn't really lend itself to the desktop metaphor very well :P

iFile also gives you a decent gui to view all the folders/files on your device. I wonder if UbuntuOS/FirefoxOS could be loaded onto an iPT...

I feel like the startmenu/taskbar is a bad idea, and the more I use Android I really prefer it over iOS. Of course, you can use the Cydia tweaks squidgetx mentioned to unlock those features (although some do cost money, I know Infinifolders definitely does)
In-progress: Graviter (...)

This certainly looks interesting, and is basically what I was looking for: http://www.ubuntuka.com/install-ubuntu-on-your-iphone-and-ipod-touch/
