Ok, I just got minecraft today since its really popular among my friends.

It sorta seems like roblox, which I once got addicted to :P

All I knew how to do was walk around and smash blocks, and eventually somehow die. Is there anything more to it than that?

I hope so :P

You can build with the blocks you smash, kill enemies, craft items, and I guess that's all.

And when vanilla Minecraft gets boring, you can start installing (and/or writing, if you're familiar with Java) mods. They can add new weapons, items, blocks, vehicles, NPCs, and make the game more entertaining in general.

There's weapons and vehicles?
There's swords, a bow and arrow, TNT(which can be rigged up for things like landmines and traps), boats and minecarts. You can also saddle and ride a pig.
