68K POTY opens
« on: December 16, 2010, 09:37:30 am »
The 68K POTY has opened on Ticalc.org. If you have one of these calculators, please vote for your favorite TI-89, 92 Plus or Voyage 200 program on ticalc.org front page in the sidebar!

I'm still unsure which one to choose as I haven't tried any yet. Complete seems pretty useful and NewProg seems to be like Axe but for 68K, even though nobody seems to use it. And there are some cool games.

I picked Complete, though as I said on ticalc.org, I think that a lot of these are really good.

NewProg is cool fundamentally, but it is true that no one seems to be using it. (Unless there's a secret NewProg development community out there or something. :P ) I think the main reason is that 68k Basic is already more powerful than 83+ Basic, and that C is much better for developing complex stuff than 68k assembly. Whereas in the z80 world, there was just Basic (and libs), or assembly (and things like BBC Basic) until Axe.

All the games are great of course, especially Pacman.

And AMS Extender is useful too.

The userbars in my sig are links embedded links.

And in addition to calculator (and Python!) stuff, I mod Civilization 4 (frequently with Python).

NewProg advantages is its on-calc programmability, but I think the reason why it's not popular is one of the following (or both):

1) Either it's just that barely anyone code for 68K anymore
2) Or there are flaws in the language rendering it unuseable or inconvenient that we do not know of.

With only 63 downloads, that seems pretty likely :P

Er, it actually has 1045 downloads, not 63. It had 71 in the past 7 days. To me it seems like most people get a Nspire over a 68K now. TI-BANK stats show that there are more Nspire owners than 68K calcs now I think, on their site. Also their 68K section as well as the yAronet 68K section are nearly dead compared to TI-BANK Nspire and 83 section. This used to be the total opposite before.

I'm guessing it's the former, but I could be wrong.
I've been meaning to download NewProg and see how it fares on my 89Ti, but I've just been kinda busy.

Spoiler For Projects:

My projects haven't been worked on in a while, so they're all on hiatus for the time being. I do hope to eventually return to them in some form or another...

Spoiler For Pokemon TI:
Axe port of Pokemon Red/Blue to the 83+/84+ family. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia:
My big personal project, an original RPG about dimensional travel and a few heroes tasked with saving the world.
Coding-wise, on hold, but I am re-working the story.

Spoiler For Finale's Super Insane Tunnel Pack of Doom:
I will be combining Blur and Collision Course into a single gamepack. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia Origins: Sky's Story:
Prequel to Nostalgia. On hold, especially while the story is re-worked.

Ah I see. I myself wish I had the motivation to try to learn it. I heard it was kinda fast, but I wonder if it actually works or if it's like Squirrelbox. Quite ironically, the first version came out at the same time as Axe's first beta, I think. :P

Plus there's already C to program in, so it might just be inconvenient to have to learn another language.

Yeah, although C can be hard to understand for some people, especially on calc, where some ASM knowledge is still required to learn C. Some people might have wanted to stick with BASIC but have faster enhancements or a similar language that is compiled.

Yeah you should upload it and do the same when you finished Jumpman. I am pretty sure they could get featured. ;D
