More sensors on your TI-CBL2 thanks to hidden connectors!

The TI-CBL2 is a sensor interface for z80/68k calculators, like the Lab Cradle for Nspire calculators.

On the 1st look, the TI-CBL2 seems to be a light version of the Vernier LabPro, which adds:
  • an usb connector ;D
  • 4 plugs for analog devices instead of 3 ;D
  • 2 plugs for digital/numeric devices instead of 1


But by opening the TI-CBL2, we notice that the missing plugs connections are available - they're just unsoldered.


So in the end, the TI-CBL2 is a cut-down version of the Vernier LabPro.

Adding that both devices share the same OS, it might be possible to add the missing connectors and turn your cheap TI-CBL2 into a Vernier LabPro, increasing its value! ;D

As allready annouced on TI-Planet, although the Vernier analog connectors are expensive with official resellers, they're just standard phone plugs used in Great Britain, meaning that you can buy them very cheap online! ;D


Note that numeric/digital connectors aren't the same: they're mirror-inversions of the previous connectors and aren't standard as far as I know.

nice, what's the price difference between those 2? i doubt it would be possible to add a USB socket to the CBL2, since i don't see any place for it on the PCB xs and there seem to be some chips missing, do you know why they would be there?

Yes I don't think you'll be able to add the usb connector, but soldering the missing sensor connectors seems perfectly possible;

typical of TI, to rip ppl off of their customer's money. I wonder where they spend all those money they're getting, selling TI-83+'s at over $80 when it probably costs them $10 to make :/

Is possible connect the TI83/89/Voyage200 laboratory (TI-CBL2) with a ti-nspire(CX/CAS) calculator?.

Unfortunately, you cannot connect the TI-CBL or TI-CBL2 to a TI-Nspire as it requires a mini-Jack plug.

The only way would be to use the TI-84+ keypad, but it's probably not what you want to achieve.


You need the TI-Nspire Lab Station Cradle (internally nicknamed as TI-CBL3).

But the mini-Jack plug connector TI-CBL2, could have its equivalent connection with connector TInspire and TI-CBL3, (RS232?)

Please could you experience this with cables from mini-Jack plug to TInspire

Critor have a CBL2?

I don't think the TI-Nspire Lab Cradle is using the RS232 contacts from the Dock connector.

It's probably using the USB contacts from the 2nd USB plug included in the Dock connector.
