Despite of the poor participation for the latest poll, it seems the people who voted are mostly in favor of the revival of the old "Featured Calculator RPG Projects" section, only for active members.

After Omnimaga website shutted down before Christmas 2004 due to hosting problems and me not having any internet access to find it a new hosting, I worked on the site and added a featured calculator RPG projects page for the 3rd version of the static, HTML site that eventually made it online on February 1st 2005. In this page you would see a list of the currently active RPG projects for TI, Casio and HP calculators with the author, a short description, its developpement status, updated most weeks, and a link to the source or discussion, if avaliable. When Omnimaga moved from static HTML to a dynamic forum-based site in May 2005, each projects were given a topic. As the site made a transition towards its own discussion board, it finally became possible to discuss each projects directly on Omnimaga and the author could even come to discuss over here. A short while before Omnimaga second programming team opened in December 05, forum activity started skyrocketing, going from an average of 20 posts per day to 60 when the second team started up (to eventually hit 250 twice) and because at the time our projects section had its entire sub-division, it became harder to notice the RPG projects section and requests for sub-forums rose. Eventually the RPG section allowed projects with a minimum of 50 posts to have their own sub-forum, like Omnimaga staff projects and this last one was moved into a sub-forum below. However, with most community RPG projects updates becoming sporadic or nonexistent, it became impossible anymore to maintain the "single topics" projects part of the section, having to re-add ones from projects that were dead for almost one year and mass-delete dead ones, to the point where we decided to make the section only have sub-forums. But then a lot of members who had one became staff, leaving the section nearly empty and it was eventually shut down in fall 2007 after one year of RPG projects inactivity.

Because in September 2008 Omnimaga reopening was still known by only a few people and because there were only two RPGs under developpement in the TI community (Robot War and Zelda), both being from members who never posted on Omnimaga, I decided to not bring back the section. However, during the following month there seemed to be a regain in interest toward calculator RPG programming and a poll was started about the possible revival of this section. Due to the results, it looks like we are going to go with the sub-forum only format, featuring projects only by registered forum members. There are currently three potential projects planned, but the section will not re-open until at least two of them shows signifiant signs of life.

It's a good idea, but I think there should be somewhat heavier requirements.  The length of the forum topic isn't as important as how far along the project is in development, since a lot of initial interest and progress doesn't mean long-term commitment, and some unforeseen issues that pop up mid-development could doom the project.

As for what happens if a project does become dead, they could be moved to an "inactive projects" sub-forum on UTI and made read-only (but they could be moved back. I think Sonic became un-dead so the forum was revived).  That way the featured projects section wouldn't be too cluttered, none of the progress/info is lost, and most importantly, you don't have people making 4-year necroposts asking about progress :-X :D

well actually I wouldn't delete the threads, I would just shut down the forum section for the project and move all topics (depending of their subject) to the appropriate categories, such as general calc discussion or projects and ideas.

i would also make sure the project has a certain amount of progress done. I won't do something like "wow awesome title screen, gonna add it to feature section"

I think you should really do it, I enjoyed the "RPGs" sticking out more by being in their own sub-forums. I also think it could bring new members, like when kevin emails a new user off of ticalc.org or a french forum. I vote for it, ill check to see if the poll is still up!

oh I did that with Nitacku and I think Halifax did with Jon Martin. I should do it more often though, especially when new projects comes out. I will not ever do it again on french forums, though, because everytime I tried to bring french members here they didn't care and the staff were booted after two months because they wouldn't even bother announcing their projects over here instead of just on french forums, even if they were Omnimaga staff. I think the factor is that in france english isn't as needed as in Quebec, so in school they won't go in depth as much, so most people barely even understand a single world of english and are generally about 6 grades behind us in english. Over here we start english in grade 4 of elementary school and have at least two classes a week and some private schools even starts at first grade and there are even schools where everything including maths is taught in english except french.

I will only try to hire people from french forums if they really show dedication to Omnimaga.

By going through the Calculator Projects And Ideas forum my guesses are "Fangh Earth", "SMA1", and "DOA".

Isn't DOA a first-person shooter?
I hardly consider that an RPG. O.o

I read the first paragraph "You are part of the I.G.I.A, the InterGalactic Intelligence Agency. You have been sent to Titan, one of saturn's moons to investigate the disappearance of weapons, plutonium and some soldiers. The IGSA, the InterGalactic Security Agency runs and funds this base, so uncovering the reasons for the disappearing weapons and soldiers is of the highest importance." and it sounded like an RPG.  I probably should have scrolled down a bit more lol

Haha, no biggie.

So, this means that staff isn't a part of this, possibly, new section?
Oh well, I feel privileged enough. =D

We each already have a forum for ourselves, so I think an extra one would be redundant :D

But mine's getting lost in the long list... D=
(J/K, it's not that big of a deal)

Speaking of that list, a lot of those projects haven't been posted in in ages. O.o
Do we know what's going on with them?

I mean, sure... it's been awhile since Nyaar's posts (and that's been fixed now) but we at least knew where I was.

THis might finally be more than 3 projects finally, because one of them I thought dead showed sign of life recently, so if I am certain there will be enough activity there may be a lot more being added to the new section. Idk yet for Fang Earth, I would like to see screenshots of further developpement for it and a version that is compatible with WabbitEmu (read: a version that doesn't use pics from 11 to 255). The last screenie only showed a character walking around.

As for staff project i chosen not to allow rpgs to be added there, except maybe in the form of a locked topic or when SMF 2.0 RC1 comes out a redirection sub-forum (like Invisionfree had), to not cause too much confusion and to keep staff rpg progress discussion in one place.

And yeah the list got quite big. This is nothing though, on the old board we usually had about 25 staff projects at once plus about 10 RPG topics and 5 sub-forums O.O

I've got a project going....

I winked at the lady, and proceeded to walk out of the room. I knew what she was thinking. Damn I'm good. She said not a word as I left into that cold, dark, rainy night, but there was a vast conversation spoken. I knew what had to be done, and there was no stopping me. As I got to my car, I lit up a fine cuban cigar with a wooden match, and cast the match behind me into the shadows. I slipped into the car, and removed my hat, tossing it aside into the passenger seat, that was empty as always, like christmas morning for a naughty child; nothing was ever there. With a deep drag of the cigar, I relaxed for a moment, and looked up out the window to the apartment where she was. As expected, I saw her looking from her window, down at me. Smoothly, I turned on my car, and took off, leaving her to ponder whether or not that would be the last time she sees me. Maybe it would be. Maybe not. Like all things, maybe its just a roll of the dice; lady luck decides whether we live or lose...

wait... what? anyway yeah I've got a project going and I can has a spotlight.
