Blow nethams in Bomberman Rush!

Jens Kolbinger has just released Bomberman Rush for the TI-Nspire at ticalc.org.


Written in Lua for OS 3.x, the game features great graphics and gameplay true to Bomberman classics, but is mainly oriented towards Time Attack modes, with "Item Rush" and "Max Capability", so you can show your friends how much better you are than them at blowing up nethams... er... little monsters.

I saw this, i think for now it's just blowing up the blocks, right? Still really cool, kinda how i used to play bomberkids :P The graphics are really nice, too!

Yep, it's just blowing blocks up and setting a time. The game has two graphic modes "Simple" and "Textures". Textures is what you see in the screen in the first post, simple is just one color for a block. While textures looks amazing, it's quite slow and performance takes a big hit (still fun to play however).

Very nice! By the way is that real calc speed? I wonder if the game was tested on-calc or just the Student Software?

I'm fairly sure that is TINCS, without nover the texture mode is something like 7 FPS I think, but that might be a bit off. It's not as smooth as in the video.

Well first of all thanks for your nice feedback, it is my first Nspire game ever so that is really important for me!
Now I'll answer some of your questions:

chickendude: Yes, there's nothing more to do than blowing up all the Brick blocks. I intended to add enemies but I had no idea how to make an AI, but I thought the game is fun already without enemies so I just added the stopwatch :P. Maybe I'll make a full Bomberman game some day...

DJ Omnimaga: I'm quite sure the video was made in the emulator because of the offset of the borders of the blocks at simple graphics that's caused by the zoom function of the emulator. I've regularly tested the game on emulator and two Nspire CAS CX OS 3.2 and 3.1

ElementCoder: Which device do you use? On my CAS CX with OS 3.2, the "Textures" mode is even faster than the "simple": "Textures"~10FPS  "Simple"~9FPS. You can increase the FPS a bit by pressing the "-" button a few times. That reduces the time between each frame update.

Now I have a question: How is the performance on other devices? I only had the opportunity to test the game on the CAS CX with OS 3.1 and 3.2.

PS: Btw my next Nspire game will be Minecraft 2D!! I'll upload the first versions sometime somewhere somehow...  ;D

Heya and welcome here! (I know I'm late :P)

To answer your question about performance, it should run at the same speed as the CAS CX OS 3.1/2 on every Nspire model. Grayscale screen models will probably be around 2-3% slower, though, because I noticed stuff runs slightly slower on them, but otherwise the speed will be pretty much identical, even if it's not CAS. OS 3.1 or 3.2 will be required, though.

Also I like the Minecraft 2D idea. Just keep in mind it would be a huge project so be careful to plan well. Will you post about its progress here some day? :)

Darn that is impressive if it's that big in code (unless the code is like Netham45's screen inverter :P). There are very few people who keep such large projects progressing for a long while and when they do they can take around 5 years before it ultimately dies. Good luck! Also yeah "Other Calc-Related Projects And Ideas > TI-Nspire Projects" is good :)
