Ok, I have an old TI 83+SE that is completely crashed ( No idea how to fix it, and I have a better one anyway). The idea is this:

If I take the internal workings out and just leave the screen and buttons (only so it still looks like a calc) would it be possible to replace those parts with something like a radio? Or maybe I could merge my ipod shuffle into it....

I need ideas on how to do this, and on what else would be awesome to include!!!! Dang this is gonna be fun!!!!!!!

Somebody (a long time ago, I think Brazcus) on UTI put a TI-89T inside the case of a broken 83+, maybe you can do something like that?

That would be awesome because then you could fool teachers into thinking that you have a TI-83+ but then you can still play great grayscale games.

I only have 1 calculator and then the ti 83, so that is out of the question. I was thinking of other gadgets, like I am thinking of incorperation a laser pointer in the place where the link port went. Stuff totally uncalculator related, but still awesome and EXTREMELY small.

How 'bout an iPod nano? It's slim enough to fit in the case, and you could get it past some teachers saying "it's just a calculator that can play music". Nah, scratch that, they'll probably be suspicious when they look at the color screen...

iPod shuffle-> small enough to fit, and no screen to worry about. They should be pretty cheap by now too...

Ya, that would probably be best(I have one anyway), any ideas on how to incorperate it easily?

Such as how do I incorperate the buttons and the headphones? And how would I work the on/off switch? This is what I need help with...

Edit: I am working with the old ipod shuffle, the one that is about the size of a piece of gum.

Wait, are you SURE its dead? Maybe the batteries are bad or the LCD Contrast is right down?

positive, i replaced every battery and the backup battery at least 3 times, and tried the contrast twice (with different batteries). Plus, I already took it apart...

Well, I think there are some headphone jack lengtheners out there on the internet, maybe you could put one end into the shuffle's jack and put the other end to where the calculator's link port is (or was).
The buttons are a bit harder: you could cut out the arrow key area in the calculator and put the buttons under the whole, but I don't recommend you doing that (it'll be too easy to notice). You could make it so that 5 calculator buttons are "assigned" to the shuffle buttons via some hardware tricks (paper clips, styrofoam, etc.).
You could do the same with the on/off switch, though you could do the cutting-out part there (it's not that noticeable when and on/off switch is barely sticking out of the side of your calculator.
One thing is for sure, however: teachers will notice if your screen is blank but music is coming out the link port, so you might want to print the RealSound screen onto a transparent sheet, cut it out, and paste it onto the calculator screen (I know it sounds stupid, but still).

Thanks! The idea I had for the buttons was pretty much the same as yours, the head phone jack could be where the link port was, and the on/off switch could be under the batteries. The realSound image is a nice touch! I knew it would be a good idea to ask for ideas on this site, you guys are very creative, and are definitely good at implementing those creative ideas!
