If you think the titanium is big, you should see the TI-92, they're huge.
My cousin found one for $30, but the only good thing about it was that it has the same Bible/manual as the 89.

price wise the TI 89 is the best

89Ti by far. More memory always is a good thing. You can never have enough. Most likely you would run into the 2000 file limit before you would max out a 89Ti. Then again, this is coming from someone who maxed out a HW1 on one basic game. Nothing I know of in an archive today would max out an 89. maybe a HW1 and it's 384k by now, but I doubt a 700K HW2

If you don't care about tests (not sure if the 89 is still allowed on SAT's or if they got wise to it), then go Voyage 200. Bigger screen. keyboard makes programming a cakewalk and is compatible with 89 and 92 basic.

If you update the HW1 to AMS 2.0x, then you get 700Kb of archive.

you can update the hardwave itself? Cuz iirc you couldn't install any AMS higher than 1.xx on HW1 and any AMS lower than 1.xx on HW2? o.o

HW1 will run AMS 2.09. It will also say it can access 700+KB memory. however you'll find that once you hit 384K you cant fill it up anymore. i'm pretty sure you can't downgrade HW2 below a 2.00 version, but I never tried since I olny have a HW1.

Carry a First gen Ti-92 around, then tell me how big the 89ti is

Basicially get two 89Ti's, tape them together and you got the weight. and it's about the size of 1 1/3 89ti's lengthwise and about twice as thick. Then try whipping it out in class and watch as the entire class stares at you in awe!

You cannot update the hardware. But, by updating the AMS, you can reap more benefits from your hardware -- such as access to more archive.

HW1 can have any AMS from v1.00 upto v2.09.

AMS v1.xx did not have the assembly program executable size limitation of 8Kb nor 24Kb. You were only limited by the general file size limitation of 64Kb. However, upgrading a HW1 from AMS 1.xx to AMS 2.xx freed up a significant amount of archive space.

HW1 has the best LCD controller. The LCD controller uses main memory for video memory. So, if you draw to the LCD buffer it is displayed immediately. The LCD controller could essentially use any memory as the LCD dispaly buffer (as long as a few rules are followed) -- just simply malloc some memory and change the LCD buffer pointer. This makes grayscale very simple on HW1.

With HW2, HW3, & HW4, the LCD controller has its own video memory. So, the LCD video buffer must be copied from main memory to the LCD controller's video memory. Unfortunately, this is the job of the CPU. So, to achieve grayscale on these hardware versions, you must manually copy each LCD buffer plane to the LCD memory -- there goes the benefit of the extra 2MHz of CPU speed.

You are partially correct... The extra archive space is usable, but it is limited to Apps.
