It might be a simple wiring issue. Not sure, but I think that one might switch around the wires at the ends, so one's transmit is the other's receive, while the other is straight across, so there's a little more software interaction. Just a guess, but it seems likely to me.
I don't see why you shouldn't code on the go. A droid phone could easily handle java compiling, even if it took a min or so to compile, no real biggie.
What OS will this thing have? Specs? etc. Don't make it too expensive, IMO, since for a linux based tablet+keypad just for programming, you don't really need much power, and it will increase sales.
But make sure it's got enough for an nspire/84+ emu with KOS, it's legal to distribute correctly made roms.
I did figure the fiance was a woman, once you mentioned that the main character was a man. If not, it would be a little awkward. I'm glad the main character is a guy- I'm already working on a design. Send it to you when it's done.

Looks like you already have someone great (better than me) for music, otherwise I'd help Any kind of graphics you need- pixel art, cartoon, lalala- I'd love to help. If it's 3D animation I may need some help- will it be 2D?
