Weirdly enough, it never crashed for me on the latest version.
They follow the reviews carefully though, so they are probably aware of whatever's wrong.
You missed my point. Of course TI is aware and probably anticipated that their app would be buggy which seems to be their normal. The question is what are they going to do about it if any thing. The clowns in Texas are playing in a different league now. Apple isn't going to tolerate a app and the resulting customer complaints. So I'm wanting to know it TI thinks they can treat Apple's customers the way they do their own by ignoring customer complaints.

 not surprisingly, there is a lot in the reviews about the new TI nspire cas ipad app crashing. Could you find out if TI is going to fix this problem or refund people's money.

Thanks for the reply DJ_O that you are pretty sure that one doesn't need to use the stylus but the fact that it is shown in pictures with the new classpad still worries me. Notice that the ipad is never shown with a stylus. That is because when selecting from things that are close together, one can expand and move the center of the screen. Apple provides that capability so that a stylus is never necessary. I wonder if the new classpad has the same capability? If not, then I suppose there will be times when the stylus is needed. Yes I would like to buy the new classpad but not if I cannot expand the screen because that would not be up to date technology and definitely not if in some cases the stylus is required. There is a lot of good technology available in the electronics market place but the calculator companies always seem to use old technology. So as far as I am concerned they can keep their crap and I'll continue to use my same old calculators and keep my money.

I agree Lionel but I don't understand why they are so short sighted. By offering poor quality products the calc makers hasten the end of their product lines sales. Like a solder shooting himself in the foot. He can't fight and he can't run. He put himself out of business. That is what I see the calc makers doing. In the local high schools where I live, the schools made bulk purchases of iPads which they loan to the students for the semester and they are switching from calculators to ipad math apps but if the calc makers had a really great product people would buy them anyway. My position is that I have the money to spend and the interest in buying a new calculator that has up to date technology but as long as the calc makers continue to produce obsolete junk, they are not going to get any of my money.

Hey wait! What is with the stylus I see in some pictures? If one has to use a stylus, that will be very disappointing and I won't buy one. Using a stylus is ancient obsolete technology and Casio has made a big mistake. I don't understand what is with the calculator makers? They come out with new devices with obsolete technology all the time. Like the lack of a touch screen on the TI stuff. Do they think we are stupid and won't notice? EVEN MY MICROWAVE OVEN HAS A TRUE TOUCH SCREEN, no stylus needed. I just don't get it. In this day and age there is just no good reason to intro a new device that requires a stylus. Bah humbug.

A large part of the slow down is because it is summer. In addition, with the passage of time, conditions for programmers have changed. Prior to the release of the nspire, we were sort of in a classic period where many people including myself enjoyed the opportunity to quickly and easily program the 83/84 series calc's. Now however with ti's continuous effort to control what can and cannot be programmed on the nspire and the limited commands available, things are not as simple and inviting as they were and I believe that is a large part of the reason for less activity here. We can all post more but that doesn't solve the problem which I believe is the discouragement of the restrictive programming that ti's latest calculators offer. Some time ago, I suggested changing the emphasis on this site to the Casio Prizm but that was not well received. I am concerned that the site will disappear from lack of use so I again suggest some emphasis on the Prizm but I am open to supporting any solution that will generate more interest in using this site. On the other hand, encouraging people to post more doesn't solve the long term problem which I believe is a general lack of interest in nspire programming due to the difficulties and complications in dealing with nspires. Just my opinion based on my perceptions.

True, however your point is mot because TI focuses only on the education market and more specifically on the high school math market thus they would not see smart phone apps as competition unless they could be used in teaching high school math which so far isn't the case. My comment about smartphones replacing calculators is not directed towards students. Most people will be students for 8 years, sometimes more. People will be in the working world for decades, and professionals will not be worried about "exam taking" from after college through retirement.
Yes, I see a HUGE future for computing devices TI can't control....

True, unless someone like apple comes out with a student model which has a press to test mode. Not likely at this time but maybe in the future. It has been rumored that apple will be adding press to test to their iPad so I wouldn't rule out the possibility for the iPhone. There just isn't any good reason to buy and carry around an extra single purpose calculating device so eventually that will be addressed I'm sure, but I don't think it is a high priority for phone makers at this time.

Smartphones will NOT be a competitor for calculators anytime in the near future. Calculators don't have wireless networking by default. Smartphones do. That's an entire class of potential cheating methods avoided just by banning phones, which is something testing organizations won't be overlooking.

My suspicion is that TI is just not going to support that platform "I think that your suspicion is somewhat extreme  " My impression of the way that TI does business is that they are stubbornly inflexable and have to have everything their way. Sort of a "do it my way or forget it additude." So I don't see them abiding by Apples policies for apps and I can see them (TI) trying to get a better financial arrangement than apple provides other app producers and if they don't get it that will be the end of that. Just my thinking on why we might not get an iPad nspire app. BTW, I read a post on the teachers site that apple is putting a PTT functionality in their next iPad os and that it allows access to one app only and no Internet connection. If true, it is probably being done to satisfy the testing athorieties and if so, would probably allow the use of iPad calculator apps as a substitute for hand held calculators. Then if Casio puts out a Prizm app for the iPad it could allow them to take over ti's education market. Just my thinking on why we "should" get an iPad nspire app, i.e., TI protects their market Leadership by providing one. We will see.

May I ask what your assertions are based on. Do you have some insider info are would you just be speculating and if you have some insider source, can you tell us if there is going to be an nspire ipad app this year. My suspicion is that TI is just not going to support that platform so the schools might as well transition from nspires to an existing iPad app. What say you? TI will fix the issue, and they will update it as soon as they can. I'm sure they will not waits months to release it.

I guess I didn't express my answer very well. To fix the problem in a timely manner, means to me that TI fixes the problem and issues an updated os before the next "normally scheduled" os which is many months from now.

On the iPad thing, the iPad has been out for years and is in it's third version and there are hundreds of thousands of apps for it. A TI nspire app is not one of them. If TI was committed to supporting that platform they could have and would have put out an iPad app by now. So based on fact, TI does not support the iPad platform. As for what ti might might be working on, well, they might be working on pigs that fly through the night and drink pink cool aid for all I know, but who cares? What counts is what TI has released, not what they might do, UNLESS they make a commitment which they never do. Yes, tablets are the future of education but TI apparently is going to milk their hand held products as long as they can and not having an iPad app helps them do that. I will stick with my iPad and old calc's and if TI never puts out an iPad app, then they will never see any more money from me.
However, about the iPad thing, how could you possibly know what they are doing right now ? I'm not aware (I haven't looked) that Casio did any Prizm app for the iPad neither ? And from what I've seen on the App Store right now, there isn't much CAS software that support as much as the Nspire Computer software can. So whenever TI releases some iOS app (I'm personnaly pretty sure they will since it's the obvious evolution on the education side (see news about US schools getting iPads))
