Yeah the post-2006 version of TI sucks x.x

Yeah, ti turned into a different company about that time.  I wonder if that was when Ms. Lovett became president of education technology at ti?

Yes, for sure it's a waste of time to try to reason with people on TI-Nspire groups like Nelson but there are reasonable people who read that site but don't post there and they can be affected.

BTW, while it may not be possible to convince a teacher not to buy nspires, considering the serious bugs of late it should be easy to convince them to put off buying more nspires until they know how bad the cx bugs are going to be.

Geez, TI has reached a new low. just when you think they hit rock bottom, they manage to find a shovel...

I'm convinced that the frustration in understanding TI occurs because we expect them to do intelligent things but they can't because they are a group of incompetent people making bad decisions.  "Stupid is as stupid does."  For example in introducing a new OS there is a risk and the back up position is to go back to the previous OS but they stupidly cut off that option. So expect ti to do something stupid and you won't be surprized.

If you have already updated your handheld's OS or your software successfully, there is no cause for concern. It will function normally.
This blurb of text they wrote is wrong... bricking occurs upon the next reboot. The handheld can work properly even with a bricked boot2, as long as it's not rebooted.
Yea, damage control fail. Hopefully this will start convincing people to update with discretion.

LOL, yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how quick the teachers on the google nspire site will be to update when the next OS comes out.

Now I wonder how long will it take for them to re-release OS 3.0... let's hope it doesn't hide anything suspicious. I think if they pull a stunt against programmers again, then it's easily gonna land on Slashdot.

What is Slashdot?

I wonder if that is still true?  They have poured a lot of money into fixing the nspire problems and each design change seems to result in new problems to be solved with no end in sight.  For example a new OS that bricks calc's.  Also the original keyboard with its closely spaced tiny green alpha keys was terrible and the present keyboard with it's closely spaced tiny alpha keys is still terrible.

Good move from their part. Now hoping that the next OS will be stable and not contain extra protections...

I hope you are right. :)

Next Os?  What am I missing here?  When Ti changed the nspire os download from 3.0 to 2.1 I thought that was their solution to the bricking problem and they wouldn't do anything more about it.  No?
No, they announced on their fb page (the french one) that a fix would come out in May. I bet it will be OS 3.0.2 or something. The OS was most likely removed so people won't damage their calc with it.

It's a huge degrade from 3.0 to 2.1 (a lot of new features), so I doubt they'd leave it like this. And there's some talk of a new OS update in May, anyway.

I was thinking they would use the problem as an excuse to force people that want the new features into buying a new (cx) calc.  Then they can ignore the problem and it is a win-win for them.

How'd they miss all those other bugs

By using the customer as a free testing service?

Also I am relunctant about getting a CX, even if I like to have almost every model.

Me to.  The really really big question is what sort of problems are going to be found with the cx models when a lot of them start being used?  Then the really really really big question is what will TI do about them?

Well, make3D can certainly do better than that :P

@Dingus, the 3D graphing doesn't need the new hardware anyways, it works on the old ones with the newest OS.

Yeh, but if you put OS 3.0 on the old (Non-cx) hardware thats when the bricking occurs.

At last, TI has removed the dangerous 3.0 OS from its server. (we had to fight for a full week for that... they didn't want to believe: we were lying, we were responsible for this by using Ndless/TNOC...)
http://ti.bank.free.fr/index.php?mod=news&ac=commentaires&id=1068

For the non-CX Nspire, the downloadable OSes are back to 2.1.

Yeh, I noticed that to. Bricked calc's are very costly to ti and to their reputation.  You would think that TI would want to thank this community for the help.

At the ti site education.ti.com they say "Graph in 3D Graph and explore functions in a 3D space with the powerful 3D graphing functionality, ideal for science subjects and higher mathematics such as Precalculus and Calculus" but you cannot graph lines and curves with their 3d graphing capability.  This would seem to be a deliberate deception on ti's part so if you are interested in this new capability beware.
