Computer Projects and Ideas / IoT Led Marquee
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:18:53 am »
So over the past few years I have been working with an led marwuee panel reverse engineering the panel and figuring out how to make it work again. We have acheived this goal.

Now a bit of back story. This marquee was given to me by an old friend of mine with the intenet of making it better. It used to run an old z80 based board that was just slow and unuseable.

Lo and behold I got a spark core at maker fair last year and have now made some hardware to go with it and now I have an IoT connected Led Marquee.

Led Marquee assembled

Led Panel Front

Assembled and installed New Controller
So whats next. I plan on making it a Vu-meter and a Post/twitter reporter. Why because why not!

Questions Comments? Poke my brain this was a fun learning experiance!

We whitelisted a largehandful of ips that fit our standard userbase. Most people wont have issues joining the channel. Some people may so we posted this to alert as to a reason why.

You guys must have two or three months worth of credits in storage now I bet, right? I hope the platform move won't be as rocky as this is.
That is correct. Well they are at the new location, but the move to the new platform hasn't happened yet. They have yet to open that up for the NY datacenter. They will let us know and give us a deal when we transfer over.
It's because the css isn't always been transmitted as https but as http and your browser blocks it for security, i think.

EDIT: Fixed it!
Someone or something keeps on changing the base url of the site back to http :( I may have to setup some sort of override like I did with the pretty url's cache.

That deal has already been solidified and logged right? lol and yeah we have some saved up thankfully. The downtime sucks but hey eeems can buy another suit now!

Yeah I would be using the PO which is even nicer. And with all this well wifi enabled linking anyone :D and many other features that i would have had to kludge in to begin with. The only thing it doesn't support out of the box is usb iirc. But i have to look into that.

Yeah it was not the platform move. The data center it self moved. The platform move is probably a month or more away. Depending on ubiquity.

Sorry guys the host did a hardware migration over the last 2 days and ran into some technical issues getting the networking backup for the site. All is moved and well for now. There will be another instance of planned downtime in the not so far future when we move hosting platforms with the provider (leaving OnApp) which will hopefully solve these annoyingly repeated downtime instances. A news article will be posted before this happens.

Thanks for bearing through it with us.
