So far only walruses have posted in this topic. Can we get opinions from other members too? :3

I'm a cat in a walrus suit. Does that count? :3

Hey everyone. Ludum Dare 31 was held last weekend, and I made an entry for it. I plan on continuing development of this project, so I figured I'd make a thread for it.

Here's a link to the Ludum Dare entry, if you wish to try it out: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=34647

Chess Wars is a Fire Emblem/Advanced Wars style game themed on Chess. Game play is pretty straightforward if you've never played FE or AW. You play on a grid and each turn you move your units and try to destroy all opposing units on the map. Here's a pretty good video showing gameplay from Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Edit: Changed to URL, since video isn't showing for some reason

Right now, my game only has two modes: Hero and Army mode. In Hero mode, you control a couple powerful units to destroy the opposing army. In Army mode, you control an opposing army. Here's what it looks like as of this writing:

In the future I want to merge the two modes together, where you play mainly as the elite force (FE-style) with supporting army reinforcements (AW-style). I might also up the strategy part of the game where the campaign is dynamic, similar to Total War or Wargame campaigns.

Either way, I'll be updating this thread with progress that I make. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome.

That's an awesome list, gotta have an awesome rig too!
I can't play half of my games cause my PC sucks...

Nope, my PC sucks xD
Well. I have a decent GPU (Gtx 650), but only 3 GB of RAM. Some games I am completely unable to play, like Planetside, Planetary Annihilation, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Eeems, I really need to challenge you to some RTW sometime. :P Or maybe CKII once I learn how to play it.

Sounds kind of like Ruby-Warrior https://www.bloc.io/ruby-warrior/

Hopefully it comes to fruition :)

I was wondering a few months ago what became of this. Great to hear it's still alive!

Oh, free roam RTS? I must say, I'm intrigued.

What language are you using? Any external libs?

I think this idea has been floating around for years. OmniRPG was the most recent attempt, iirc.

People should have a basic idea of how computers work, even if it's just the idea that at their core computers just run a bunch of instructions in a sequence. I once had an internship to develop a website for a government organization, and I was basically seen as a wizard doing magic. It's kind of a shame.

Also to comment on DJ's earlier post (Tapatalk is horrible for quoting), I would actually like to see a modern resurgence of the "Athenian Man." Having basic competency in a large number of fields is very beneficial. Especially in cross-discipline fields like comp-sci.

I have an old project, wxWabbitemu, which is basically a Linux port of Wabbitemu via wxWidgets. Would anybody like to help pick that up? I'd be happy to help with setup and such! :)

https://code.google.com/p/wxwabbitemu/

The only reservations I have is that I do not know wxWidgets nor linux programming, and my C is rather rusty (since I'm so used to C++). But I am willing to give it a go if we have people working on it that do know those things.

I have some time available to commit to a computer project, if we are interested in finding one.

They have a mailing list that's real convenient for keeping up with things.

I tend to go for the 48 hour individual competitions, so I can't do team entries. Also, most of the time when I make something in Java, it suffers slowdowns unless the code is real optimised.

It's definitely been a while. My activity may start picking up more soon once the semester starts for me. I tend to browse Omni more in between classes.

This entry is primarily a base building RTS. So it's closer to, say, Tiberian Sun than SCII. And it was made in 72 hours, so gameplay isn't nearly as refined. :P

I made an entry for Ludum Dare 30 and I figured I'd share it with you all.

I decided I was going to make an RTS. It even has multiplayer over LAN (and possibly internet).

Anyone else compete?
