The problem with grayscale shadows is then you can see the whole map, regardless of where you are standing.  Then the shadows become more of an effect that a gameplay mechanic.

(Is gameplay mechanic the right term here?  I'm not really sure...)

I thought the entire idea of games like these is for you not to know what is around you without actually physically going there.

Your anti-circle appears to be two hyperbolas, one on the x axis and one on the y.  I admit that it looks cool, but I don't really see how this could be helpful for game programming.  Unless someone can come up with an idea on how this could be useful, I agree with Quigibo that it should be removed.  This would just confuse new Axe programmers.   :-\

74) Diagnostic mode would clear all memory and storage.
75) Background programs would have to be specifically not to conflict with each other.
76) Boot times would be instantaneous on all but the newest software versions.
77) All USB ports would be slightly too small, and require adapters.
78) Commands cannot be typed, only pasted from a gigantic menu.
79) The lowercase letters u, v, and w will have identical counterparts with different character codes.
80) If an exception is thrown, your computer will automatically format it's primary hard drive.

Would you look at that, he's got one of the mysterious K's.

...But it looks to me like the version K is what is to blame here. K's just don't follow the rules when it comes to making calculators.

Little did I know that some BE's are more basic than others.  It seems I have been cursed with the elusive 'K'.  Darn.  Here are some other funky things about my calc:

  • I need ALCDFIX to play some games.  Something to do with a slow driver
  • Omnicalc's Ram Recovery function doesn't work.  Something to do with missing memory
  • I got it a Wal-Mart for 80 bucks.  Either it was priced wrong, or Wal-Mart knew something I didn't.

Aha.  All of my suspicions are confirmed TI IS the root of all evil!

Nope.  Same problem happened on my real calc.  I actually tried my calc first, then because I had patched ptt and thought perhaps that could be causing a problem, I tried it on the emulator using my (unpatched) ROM.

uuh, thepenguin77, Zstart isn't working quite right.  It didn't work on my calc, or on wabbitemu (using an old ROM of my calc (2.43)).  When I tested it with wabbitemu, I only had omnicalc (the included version) installed, without any ROM patches.  I guess it just doesn't like me?    :'(    Anyways, here is a screenshot.

Here is what it sounds like form a real live calculator.

Introduce Yourself! / [Insert creative subject here]
« on: July 02, 2010, 05:23:33 pm »
So.  I suppose I need to introduce myself, as it isn't really official until I get my peanuts.

I got my graphing calculator (an 84+) the summer before 9th grade, (2 years ago) as it was suggested to have one for Algebra 2.  I remember thinking to myself, "d***, that's a lot of buttons."  About halfway through the first semester, I read Appendix A in the manual, and made a Quadratic Formula program.  Ever since then, I have been making programs to make my calculator do math for me.  I tried learning assembly, but that is currently way too hard for me.  When Axe came out, I finally had the chance to make more powerful programs without assembly.  Invariably, I got stuck, and signed up here for help.  Now I figure that Omnimaga is pretty cool, so I have added it to my spellcheck dictionary and decided to stay.  The only thing I need to do now to achieve perfect happiness is get a working adapter so I can use MSD8x.

And I just lost the game.   :-\

DJ, I can answer the question about the BASIC Mandelbrot set.  I made this program a while ago.  It is cool, because it can estimate (very accurately  :D) how long it will take.  25 iterations takes about 22 minutes to graph.  Big speed difference.

I just did some investigating with Calcsys.  L3 seems to point to 9872.  (All these values are hex)

Here is what is around that area on my calc:

Code: [Select]
27 bytes of empty space
9866: 00 FF 3E 8D
986A: 03 13 22 70
986E: 00 00 00 00
9872: 6A 98 00 00
all the rest of L3

So there is stuff from 9867 to 986D, but I have no idea what.  You would have written over 4 bytes of stuff on my calc.  Could Axe be using the space for something?

We should use Cabamap.

It would be so lolworthy if we cracked the Nspire key with an 84...

Thanks!  I feel warm and fuzzy inside now.   ;D

Perhaps it is some sort of internal fungal growth undergoing a exothermic reaction?   :-\

Perhaps we could just ask TI nicely?  Pretty please with sugar on top?  [picture of lolcat]

But they apparently are pissed that the previous keys were cracked, so they went all ninja with the Nspire key...
