The firmware (bios) on modern computers is just a fraction of the size of ram. Computers these days rely on external media which contents are loaded into ram.
The c64 has 64k of ram and just 20k of rom. It too relies on external media such as floppies or casette tape. Yes this is more balanced than my computer, but I don't intend to write a large basic or kernal for it. Those take up 16k in the c64. I also don't need a character generator rom because this thing does not have a video chip. This saves another 4k of rom. The only things I want to save in rom are a program loader, peripheral drivers, menu system and a sound sample player.

That aside: it was either 128k or 8k because those were the only ram chips I currently have in stock. I want to add a serial flash rom with more data on it so I can play back sound samples for example.

Oh ok lol, I thought you were going to have everything load off of your EEPROM. Embedded devices usually boot from flash.

Also I think your computer is pretty unbalance in RAM:ROM ratio. I mean, usually computers have much more ROM than RAM.

And what needs to change other then you all realizing we are doing what we can with the site to make it better.

But dont expect us to follow everything the members want. It's a community run by the admin team (and owners when they voice it). Not an admin team run by a community.

A simple suggestion to move to a topic-oriented channel. There were no threats. Having separate chat channels encourages discussion of those topics alongside others. It allows the conversation to continue unhindered by others derailing it with other topics.

I disagree. Eeems has been effectively enforcing anime discussion to #anime even when it started while the channel was inactive. Same for pony talk. This is not really cool.

Well since the shell runs before the os, it's more of a bootloader. Except that we won't try to patch the OS itself.

Quick design update: We decided to reinterpret maps and stuff. For example, the first cave is going to be a huge dungeon map with multiple levels to make it somewhat more interesting to walk through. I hope street can do some stuff on the engine this afternoon so we can show you Kin walking around

Unfortunately I couldn't get a thing done today but I'll try this week end to get something running. I've already done such a tilemapper (with 8*8 tiles though) so I have a pretty clear idea of how to do it.
